How do you keep officers alive?

yeah, I supposed that.. so, if I enable the DSmod, I have to jump off, save and then return to the 3d mode.
But in the read-me of the mod there's this line "<i>Directsail works only if you are in a sealocation that contains an island. If you are at "open sea" it doesn't work cause that location is the same no matter where on the worldmap you enter it, so it is impossible to determine the data on neighbouring islands that directsail needs.</i>.
So it seems that, if I sail in 3d mode for a bit, then go to the world-map to save, I cannot return to the direct-sailing mode: this makes the direct-sailing experience a bit hard, unless you have 5 or 6 hours to sail from an island to the other without interruption <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

That is indeed a problem. You can't save when using DirectSail. But you CAN enable time compression, making time pass much faster. Use the [R] and [G] keys. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

try sailing from redmond to hispaniola. that should take two hours or so, maybe one. what i usually do is just let the ship steer itself and read a book or something. keep an eye out for encounters though. look at your map to see where you should be going. remember: your course is the direction of the island you're trying to get to when looking at where the island you started is. so, there's no need for sailing south-east when you first sailed north-east while you're trying to go east. just point your ship east and you're good.

We need cannon constantly reloading script and apart from that we ALSO need a script or something so you don't HAVE to go on world map at all! you'll be able to sail island to island and encounter ships in 3D! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> ..that'd be FUUUUUUUUUUUUN! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

That's the idea behind the DirectSail mod pointed me by Pieter, but it's still a bit rough. What would be really perfect, even without a complete 3dSailing, is a mod that simulates the life on board, with problems with the crew and so on... and maybe a dynamic campaign (fewer ships in the world -now it seems to be in a traffic jam in Rome - but with a consequence when you or the AI sunk one), but I'm going too far I suppose <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Sure it's not perfect, but I think it's an awesome mod. Personally I thought that it wouldn't be possible to make due to the limitations in the game engine, but CouchcaptainCharles proved me wrong on that one. I do know Nathan Kell once made a mod where ships on the worldmap would actually follow trade routes and such, but to accomplish that he had to make all ships invisible. That wasn't really perfect either. On the other hand, we CAN add some code that influences the economy of the game when a ship is sunk. Also we CAN influence the ships encountered in DirectSail mode. But again: It requires somebody to do it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Wait? ..So i don't have the new version of it? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />
And what the hell this DirectSail Mod's .txt help file does in buildinfo folder? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Thanks for telling me Pieter! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />
Now i just have to download that DirectSail from FTP? Or was that new version of it somewhere else? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

EDIT: Oh and about crew ..well i think the amount of crew losses on ship should be lowered ALOT. Because it starts to look stupid that you must allways hire/capture a buttload of crew and then lose your buttload of crew AGAIN! SHEESH! how i can even make friends on ship when dying is faster then making friends. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ko" border="0" alt="ko.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />
FOR CRYING OUT FREKIN' LOUD! Someone really should make that change about lowering the losses. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

The most recent DirectSail mod is <a href="http://pafiles.com/potc/ccc%20experimentals/Directsail_jan25.zip" target="_blank">here</a> (from the FTP). Are you talking about crew losses in sea battles or on boardings?

Boardings are ok <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" /> but sea battles aren't. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

EDIT: Ok added that DirectSail into my game. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

EDIT1: Great! Abnormal termination! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boom.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":boom" border="0" alt="boom.gif" /> Drat. so much of the fun ..now my game doesn't even start.
What the hell i have to do so DirectSail will work? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Which game version do you use? If you use Build 13, you can install DirectSail on top. If you use on of the Build 14 Alpha versions, it is already included and you had best not install it again. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

up your defence. that'll cut down your losses. also, kamikazeing your ship into a broadside doesn't exactly help a lot either. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Oih.. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> ..if i did had DirectSail mod in my Build 14 Alpha 6 then it did not seemed to work that how so you don't have to go on worldmap. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Eh great now have to download build 14 alpha 6 and get those Directsail stuff back.

that's.... a very confusing sentence. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> would you please unravel it into a logical one? your english is usually a lot better, so i guess that was some hasty typing. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

The DirectSail mod doesn't PREVENT you from going to the worldmap. The game remains working as it always did and if you don't know about the DirectSail mod, you probably won't notice it's presence. In Alpha 6, point your ship on a course for the next island and just continue sailing. Eventually you will reach the next island. But if you want to use the worldmap like usual, you can do that as well. Does that help?

Nah not really ..i'v tryed to do this before but i can't see a island even after 30 minutes of sailing at speed of 18 knots. And when i go to world map i see that i am "poking" a island with my ship.

That's the part why i want it in fully 3D so i can LITERALLY see a island after
30 minutes of sailing at speed of 18 knots. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

That sounds odd. Because that is exactly what the DirectSail mod DOES do. And I know it works. I tested it pretty recently. Usually an island appears just after the changing of the hour, which you can see using an onscreen-clock or just after a weather-update.

well, as far as I remember the mod doesn't work anymore if you switch to the World Map (or, to be precise, it doesn't work if you go back to the 3d far away from land). But 30 min of sailing are really too few (unless you did them at 30x speed), to reach Redmond from Oxbay it takes 4 game-hours

True. You can't go to worldmap sailing inbetween. And it takes several game hours to get anywhere. At least one, because the updates only occur every game hour. Use time compression to speed things up. It also helps to put the clock on your display. You can expect an encounter or land just over the whole hour.

OK that's more like it! I just had to re add pb modifications and giuliooto fix ..and then i sailed and sailed and sailed until sailho came until landho came! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" /> Then i landed on the unknown island. Walked on island. Found a village. Killed some angry-for-no-reason villagers/bandits. Got meself slaughtered <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ko" border="0" alt="ko.gif" /> - The End. lol. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Ok Pieter, your mistakes are too funny and too good to leave out <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />:
