How to cheat the Casper fight

Sordid

Utterly inexcusable!
Storm Modder
Okay, so now I'm supposed to storm the San Gabriel and kill everyone inside. There's a dozen guys in there, with over 300 hp each, and most have multi-shot pistols and heavy weapons (several Tanats at the least). And I'm supposed to do this all by myself with my measly 200 hp and Haudegen.
Suuuuuure, <i>great</i> game design there, seaward. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
So, any way to cheat my way through this fight? Taking them one by one in narrow places doesn't work, there's so many of them that they just keep pushing me back until they surround me in a corner, at which point the camera starts jumping around, making the character uncontrollable. Savescumming doesn't save the day either, I run out of energy when more than two thirds of the enemies still remain, then I have to stand around and the pushing ensues. Aaaaaand the door locks behind me, so I can't pop out for a breather either.
So, ideas?

I put myself in the corner at that table to the left and when my energy was up, I basically just kept blocking stuff while healing myself. Waiting until the two/three guys that were slashing me ran out of energy and then I took my turn again. Basically I kept going on like this until they're all dead. I had a haudegen and a 4-barrel pistol.

Here's an idea, how about modding potions to restore energy as well? Can that be done?

...

No?

Edit: Huh, I guess there is a way to make it easier after all. Thanks a lot. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
Now how the heck did seaward expect anyone to figure this out? There's NO hint AT ALL that you're supposed to talk to the barmaid. This is exactly why I used the walkthrough, for all the good it did me.

No idea lol. I rushed in and died.
Read the quests_texts.txt to find that part. I think after the whole barmaid thing, you can ask Thomas Boyle the jailer to help you when you storm the San Gabriel. I don't know for sure, because I didn't do it. But its in the quests_text.txt, right at the end of the COAS quest texts (which is why i missed it).

Very simple solution. Don't fight on San Gabriel.

Well thanks to Silic here I'm now dealing with them one by one with the help of the barmaid. I'm kinda worried, though. They're thugs and cutthroats, but sooner or later they're going to put two and two together and notice that guys who brag about a date with the barmaid turn up dead the next day. I hope this little scheme won't get her killed.
Are there other ways to deal with this quest, or is that what you were referring to?

If there is, I don't know about.
1. barmaid, several times;
2. after, don't fight on San Gabriel.

Bah, screw this. I get to kill two, then after killing the third another guy pops out and says he did the barmaid in and brought some help. Only the 'help' is standing on the lower deck, so when they shoot their pistols at me the whole clan hears them and rushes out of the San Gabriel and I'm right where I was before, only now the barmaid's dead too.
Any way to maybe nerf these guys? A <i>lot?</i>

I fought all 3 of them quite far from the San Gabriel, so the others didn't hear anything and didn't rush out of the San Gabriel.
I can't remember how many I had to fight in the San Gabriel, I remember running around alot though, ran downstairs and pulled them around.
Valeriyan said not to fight them on San Gabriel. Not sure how to do that.

You can try the Thomas Boyle the jailer thingie after the barmaid, don't know what he does exactly, whether he joins your party or does something else, since I didn't do it.
In quest texts there is a:
#TEXT 70
The jailer Thomas Boyle has agreed to join me as I storm the San Gabriel.
So it sounds like he joins your party. An extra pair of hands might be helpful.

Yeah, you have to fight them on the Ceres, if you come too close to San Gabriel the gang is going to hear you and rush out. The thing is, the new guys that appear after you kill the third one spawn too close to it and the rest of the gang come out too.

Hmm, I was behind the mast thingie, so maybe i wasn't in LOS for him to shoot me.

Well it doesn't really matter, what I want to know is how you can nerf these guys. Their stats have to be stored somewhere, right? Somewhere editable?

I fought the ones the barmaid lured out on the very back end of Ceres. Third date 3 guys show up only. After that there were 4 left in the Gabriel. I was able to beat that.

I don't know how to nerf them, but I can suggest a few things that help me fight.

- Don't hold small potions or grapes. Use the big healing potions only.
- If you aren't swinging, hold space to block, you won't take any damage unless they shoot for power shot, which is not often.

But I really strongly suggest, <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?showtopic=13297" target="_blank">http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?showtopic=13297</a>

The game, while mostly good pirating fun, has some real FU moments. Some much worse that what you are experiencing now. It's good to have a godmode option. Sadly, you must start a new game for it to work.

Yeah, that was the first thing I tried, but I don't really feel like starting over <i>again</i>. And I do try to block as much as I could, but unfortunately as they keep pushing towards me I get two or even three guys swinging at me at a time <i>and</i> a lot of them seem to have that nasty perk that allows them to hit even through my block some of the time.

As for potions, I do only have the big ones. Thing is, I only have 20, and by the sound of it I'm going to need a lot before this quest is over. The chest in the tavern's wine cellar was filled with all kinds of them, but unfortunately one of the FU moments you mentioned is that items in the chests disappear, so... yeah, that's another thing that needs fixing.

Anyway, I tried messing with the weapon stats, thinking that perhaps I could give my sword massive damage, but it appears this stuff is saved in the savegame, so editing the inititems.c file doesn't do anything.

When appears the killer of barmaid lure him to the Ceres stern. Caspers didn't hear the shot.
Next you should consider where you will fight. This place should provide one-on-one battle and retreat under the onslaught of the crowd, but Caspers didn't have to surround you. Board-walks between Ceres and Gabriel are not suitable. Then call the Caspers

Yeah, I managed to savescum my way through the fight, even after only killing the first two guys, so I saved the waitress too. So I guess this thread has run its course, and thanks a lot, guys.

In the CoAS there is nothing that can't be done. Only two reasons:
1. you're going the wrong way;
2. you're not ready.

Well it wasn't exactly clear what I was supposed to do, and there aren't all that many opportunities to level up while I'm trapped in the COAS either, so... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />:
