Yeah...I contemplated going to therapy because of this quest...
The whole barmaid business is news to me. But what I did was, upon storming the San Gabriel's main door, I quickly activated the Berserk mode then I run allllll the way to other side of the deck, the one where it holds the door that leads to the mechanic's confinement. I personally felt that the stairs leading to that area is the most narrowed spot to hold them at one angle, because you have the boundaries from both sides to prevent enemy from coming around you. On top of that you can also try to slightly push them backward without fearing of passing them. Once I safely held my ground by the stairs, I saved the game. By then, I kept quicksaving everytime I managed to get away with killing one without getting much damage to my character. Repeat the process, and before you know it, they're history. One of the game's weaknesses that we should take advantage of, especially under these kind of circumstances is that if you load the game in a situation which a melee battle is in progress, the enemies' weapons are still sheathed for some reason. Hope I'm making some sense here.
