In "A Strange Statuette", you go after a Darien statuette, then decide it needs to be disposed of so it doesn't fall into the wrong hands and get used as a weapon against pirates. You decide to throw it into the sea. Do you throw it:
    (a) overboard in the middle of the sea far away from any island?
    (b) off a high cliff?
    (c) off a pier into shallow water where it can be found by any small child swimming in that area?

The last I heard of a previous attempt to dispose of a mystical artifact by dropping it into water didn't end too well; in the end an expedition had to be sent to drop the artifact into a volcano. ;)

I completed the quest, the walkthrough wasn't necessary. I was just questioning Bartolomeu's way of trying to get rid of the statuette. Because what I imagine happening next is:

"Maman, look what I found while I was swimming!"
"Oh Pierre, that looks important. We must give it to the governor, perhaps there will be a reward!"

The bit about the other artifact which was dropped into water, found, and had to be thrown into a volcano is more fully explained in a trilogy of books about a ring. ;)

At the end of the " A Strange Statuette" quest you sail to Martinique - Roxanne talks to you on St Pierre jetty then the player autowalks to the end of the jetty and throws the statuette into the sea automatically. So the Statuette should be got rid of.

By a coincidence I just finished reading those books a few days ago and then started on The Silmarillion.

Congratulations! I have been trying and failing miserably at that for 15 years now.
Started, but never finished. Same with Master & Commander.

Reading helps me sleep. A half hour of reading and I'm gone. I did power read War and Peace decades ago and finished it in 10 days.

    Bartolomeu has second thoughts.

statuette_search.jpg It has to be around here somewhere...

Unless... That woman I saw heading to the residence with a very wet child and carrying something suspiciously heavy and shiny-looking...
    Uh-oh... :facepalm
