So I have finally seen this game in a Wal-Mart near me, and just from looking over a few threads, I'm wondering is this game worth getting? I have POTC and I have enjoyed much of the work those guys have put into modding it. It looks like the modding for this has come to a stop. Does the Supermod and updates 1 through 5 make this game entertaining, and if so, more than a build 13 or 14 POTC?
 
The game is buggy, but for ten bucks you can give it a shot. Unfortunately nothing much out there comapres with the modding for POTC.

So I bought AOP and have been tinkering around with it for a few days. I'm going to keep messing with it for a while, but I'm really not that impressed. The game crashes about every 10 minutes or so and the overall game play feels much slower compared to PotC. Everything seems MORE limited than PotC. The graphics are a huge improvement, but that doesn't sell me. I still play my original Risk game circa 1995. I think this game has huge potential, maybe as much as PotC, if it gets the hell modded out of it. Unfortunately, it seems like the modders and developers have both abandoned AOP and moved on.

That brings me to the question of what is the most fun and realistic pirate game out or on the horizon? I like the sort of realistic look like PotC or AoP as opposed to the cartoonish look. I know everyone is excited about Pirates of the Burning Sea, but my wife and I are buying a house and I think it will be a while before I can pay for an MMORPG again. Any suggestions?
 
Buy the game Sea dogs. It is the predecessor of POTC, but it has a lot of better gameplay (seems that evry new generation of the game's line always means one step forward and to back it seems). If you don't mind graffics of the year of our lord Anno 1999 you'll have a great time ...

nothing without mods, at least. why not just grab one of 'em akella guys by the neck and drag him this way to show how it's done?

AoP is good with patch 1.5(that was the last one right?), if the PotC mod team focus on AoP latest patch it WILL BE a smash hit, has alot more potential than PotC.

And lets not forget we have multiplayer.
 
you probably mean that 1.5 doesn't crach evry 15 minutes... that still doesn't make it a great game ... it only changes the "Alfa" tag of AOP to "Beta". I don't realy know becouse I stopped playing this one afther 2 weeks. But seriously what kind of crap did they sold to us? It is way worse then POTC, altough I agree that it HAS more potential. I always have the feeling that I bough an game engine and a pack of graphix with this game. It doesn't have a goal, there's very little to do and rather boaring overall. It misses quests

This game isn't an "open ended" game. It's just an "empty" game. you don't need to make choises, not just becouse there arn't any options, there arn't even quests/events in wich choises should be implied!

Also, this game was originaly designed to be a mod for POTC, and in my opinion, it had better sayed that way !
 
The russians did very good modding jobs on it, go take a look at seaward.ru forum, and you will find mods that make this game a good game (if you ignore the fact you can't read anything if you don't speak russian)

I said nothing abouth mods. I'm talking about the product they sold, wich is more like an alfa version then a game.

it was intended as a new game to use a new graphics engine.

Unfortunately it was <!--coloro:#FF0000--><span style="color:#FF0000"><!--/coloro-->never<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--> developed (simply released unwritten)

What we have here is POTC envy that cannot even remember what POTC looks like.

With 5 years of able modder development it could possibly approach the quality of the early release of POTC.
