Fixed Leveling: Sudden Huge Amounts of XP Gained

Check resetmaxhp for enemies the formula is a bit different. I think in this case a level 1 or 2 enemy was created, but I need to go trough the log to know for sure and check the location.

@Talisman just curious, you are playing jack sparrow right? How is the skill progression going? Do you find you are leveling to fast or is it right? You shouldn't at least max out before the end of the storyline.

I am not really used to the new levelling system yet - so I cannot really tell whether it is right yet.

Under The old system I could play the whole of a Jack Sparrow Main Story and most of the side quests and I would get up to at most level 15 -17

I am playing one of the Jack Sparrow Main Stories ( The Brotherhood ) and have just completed it to the point where the two main stories converge ( meeting Davy Jones ). So I reckon I am about a 1/2 to 2/3 through the Jack Sparrow Main Quest.

Here are some images of my F2 Character screen as I have progressed through the Story - I have not played any side quests or done anything outside the Main Story - I don't know how to judge how well/ badly I am progressing -

09/06/1740 - Start
19/07/1740 - Arrive Port Royale after escorting Beckett
20/08/1740 - Giving Beckett his Profit from my trading/smuggling
13/09/1740 - Eitc Office after rescuing Eitc Officer
25/09/1740 - Muscetto Cove Antigua
08/10/1740 - With Petros - delivering Willmoes to him
21/10/1740 - With Petros after rescuing Couch Capt. Charles
26/10/1740 - Meeting Nathan Kell
11/11/1740 - After Sailing to Turks with Petros Kell & Konrad
25/11/1740 - Meet Davy Jones

You can compere the points with the Wiki to see roughly how far through the story they are. :read

Seems pretty good to me so far :).
Only the cannon skill seems to go very slow. Haven't had any good sea battles lately?

I have been avoiding sea battles as much as possible
Get into a fight with the wrong nation and suddenly it becomes more difficult to get to somewhere you need to go. ;)

Anyway I'm Jack Sparrow, you don't expect me to fight do you? :rofl

:duel:

@Levis: With all your recent changes to officer types and the skill system, are the two skills marked with Ticks in F2>Character still taken into account?
The idea is that those are linked to player type and those are the ones that a character will increase faster than the others.
I noticed today that a companion officer of mine didn't have any tick marks at all, which I think did use to be the case in the past.

If something indeed did change with that functionality, I reckon it should be restored or removed to prevent confusion.

At the moment the tickmarks are only shown at skills which have a bonus.
At the moment these officers don't have a bonus. I could add bonuses for the officertypes if people want too.

So the bonuses do still work? That's good! :cheeky
Are bonuses ever signed to NPCs? I think they used to be and probably should be otherwise the player has an unfair advantage.

Ok, I believe I actually have a system in place for it :p I just need to assign some bonusses to the officertypes then. Else I need to add about 2 lines of code I think :p.

@Levis: Is this something you added?
Code:
init Dou_soldier_1
init Dou_soldier_2
init Anne Paers
init Laurens Bloem
init Stefan Loseir
init Peter Emden
init Kersten Dekker
init Nol Meens
init Douwesen_Street_merchant_1
init Douwesen_Street_merchant_2
init Location fantom character <0>
init Location fantom character <1>
init Location fantom character <2>
init Location fantom character <3>
init Location fantom character <4>
I don't remember ever seeing that before, but I'm getting plenty compile.log entries now? :shock

EDIT: Found and disabled:
Code:
  if(!IsMainCharacter(refCharacter) && !sti(refCharacter.index)==GetMainCharacterIndex() && !bAllies(refCharacter))
   {
   //   trace("init "+refCharacter.id);
     if(DEBUG_EXPERIENCE>1) Trace("XP LOG: Start InitAutoSkillsSystem");

Also, in starting a new game with Assassin:
Code:
XP ERROR: No officertype assigned to: Johan Elting now set to: civilian
So THE PLAYER is being set to civilian???

@Levis - I have just finished the Jack Sparrow - Brotherhood - Main Story right through to the end of the Film part ( Curse of the Black Pearl ). Here are my skills at the end.

This does NOT include any side quests.

Think so yes. Doesn't matter that much because it will be set later again.

As I have been so long disconnected from this and I recently installed the latest version of Beta 4 WIP... I discovered that levelling was touched a bit. That was by Levis, isn't it?

Also, is neccesary to give feedback or opinions to the changes of levelling?

And at last, Do you need to test anything new from this thread?

Indeed @Levis has been doing quite a bit of further work on it.
I don't know of anything specific to check, other than to keep a keen eye for anything that doesn't seem right from either a functional or balancing point of view.

Hmmm... Ok... I started a new campaign in which I will join the Pirate Brotherhood... Went to hire an officer and... WHAT? Is this real? I don't know if this is now normal on this latest patch but anyway... I will put it here... I was level 13 when I hired him.
