Major breakthrough with Akella

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

What about "Pieter Boelen - team supervisor"? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I mean, we work rather indepedeantly - there's no-one to tell us what to do. We just make stuff, and Pieter, with the others, tries to incorporate it into working wholeness <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

yea.. well actually I don't really bother if its team supervisor or leader but, its true that supervisor represents him more.. (i think)<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

This is certainly a magnet for all us old mod codgers. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
Do want to at least post a couple thoughts on this groundbreaking topic:

Doober's post is more or less exactly what I'd have said. This community is all about cooperation, and enhanced contact with the Russian community, even, in my opinion, if there are no tools involved, would be a good.
Things have come far since last I had a peek; we had and have a nice set of jerry-rigged tools and knowledge base, and have created some really neat code and content from them. What could be accomplished if we didn't have to reverse-engineer is a thought full of promise.
Assuming credit is properly attributed to all concerned I have no problem with commercialization. Or, assuming needed fixes are portable, upgrading engines. I have no love at all for StarForce, but workarounds (ahem) abound.
Lastly, cooperation will solve, I hope, a problem in terms of credit and acceptability for items from one mod or game appearing in another. There are some bad habits that develop--and I have been guilty of this myself--when there are resources ready for the picking and their authors hard to contact; and conversely it being very difficult to make anything new, borrowing existing resources simply because they're all that's new and available. So further, access to the content-creation tools would ease the pressure towards inserting any and all content found--when one -can- make one's own, there is less pressure to borrow others'.
(A note on this: if the cooperation turns commercial, it will be utterly necessary to remove any and all content that we do -not- have explicit permission to use. For our legal protection if nothing else.)

All that said, it is not at all clear what may develop; but it is certainly my opinion, both in regards to our ethos, and on a level of benefits, that we should further this contact.
---
And also, my assumption of we is a bit pretentious. But I will try to check and answer my messages at least.
Cheers, all.
('Comrade' Kell)

Hey i was talking about intelligence of a person. What your laughting about? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

"Team coordinator" doesn't sound half bad either <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Erhm..can´t wait for Pieters reaction, when he see Nathan Kell was in here, posting <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

The title you guys are looking for is "compiler" ... "modpack compiler"

That conveys the idea that the lead's job is to put all the new stuff into the mod, without suggesting any kind of hierarchy that would offend anyone. It's also a title that can be passed off easily, should someone get busy or otherwise unable to help, without having to strip anyone of a pretentious title. ("You are no longer team leader.") It just sounds like work. ("We foist upon you the job of compiling all this crud into a unified whole, at least until you can get some other sucker to take the job.")

I'm willing to sign on as a sort of "historical/military consultant", especially when it comes to all the Napoleonic/Navy content. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Perhaps even a conceptual artist would work. If we get the proper tools to make ships and men from scratch, I could draw up the initial "look" to base the models and skins off of.

And I don't think age should matter, I'm only 17, but does that mean I am not capable of joining you all on this endeavor? Nay. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I think I am the youngest then. Still 16, the first of march 17. But I think we should incoorperate with the Russians to make this fantastic build mod even better.

PS glad to see you again Nathan Kell. When you left I could do nothing in modding.

"Team Supervisor" sounds good, considering I'm moderator on the community forum and keep an eye on everything being said in the PotC forums. Thanks, Kazeite! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

NATHAN! Thank you ever so much for posting! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />
You make some very valid points. We do have a bit of a habit of sticking anything in the game that we can lay our greedy little hands on, sometimes regardless of whether we have permission of any kind or not. I admit that is not really good and cooperation would be a nice way of solving that particular problem without having to remove that content from our game. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

I don't see what age has to do with anything. If you're under 18, but you have useful ideas, can do good modding work or make this community a better place in any way, what's against that? Really I never understood the age issue. When you turn 18, suddenly you are "worthwhile to the <i>real</i> world"? What kind of sense is THAT? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

I think I was just over 18 when I joined this site. Before that, I had already made several greatly appreciated <a href="http://www.s31clan.com/privateftps/pietersmods/vsshipyard" target="_blank">3D models of ships</a> for <a href="http://www.avsim.com/vs" target="_blank">Virtual Sailor</a> and had run a major website for that same game for many years. Did my age make any of my work less good? Or less "valid"? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

well cylon, i was laughing because i doubt that any of us always knows what he/she is doing. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

all these old members popping out of nowhere keeps giving me the spooks for some reason every time it happens. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

concerning the conceptual art, how about me and petros being the 'chartographers'? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> although i don't see any reason to add us to the list to point that out. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

i think team supervisor is best.

I think it is O.K. now. I still think you should be Team Leader - They need to know they are talking to someone who can make a decision, even if we tie you to the mast till you agree to do what we want! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />
It is an initial communication to "test the waters" (I thought that was quite nautical! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> ) and will give him/them a chance to respond as they see fit.
By all means other members - PLEASE add your comments if you disagree or think something needs to be added.

Exactly <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

I suggested to Akella, why communication was needed and I asked for the tools, or any help Akella could provide. Akella directed me to Edward Zaitsev (I actually had to request my ip opened up for communication with him - speak of ironcurtain <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ) and Zaitsev clearly stated, that Seaward.ru will coorperate with us (Of course he also took the opportunity to make PR for his latest expansion pack as well, thats only natural)

Its not for certain, that he wants our work included in future commercial expansion-packs from Seaward.ru. But this will eventually be discussed, when we get the point on what this cooperation exactly will include for each part. I can´t wait to reply the man for several days each time he mails us, its not very polite. Thats why commenting on what people think of all this is so important right now.
