stopped after making the flag.....will make another one using crossed claymores, but's that's down the road.
as for animation, haven't tried. got the game up and running and have been playing(dying) since. had a schooner with the "bowmast "blown off and missing the associated sails. repaired in port, but th sails only made it to 63%. would not go above that amount even with the hull at 100%. probably didn't help that i changed the name. last night i set sail and came upon a pirate schooner, caravel, and fleut. started pumping the schooner and caravel with chain. caravel struck colors!!!! boarded and switched ships. started pounding the fleut with chain and they struck colors!! kept both big ships and fired once on the schooner. it struck colors, i boarded and looted and let it go. shoulda offed the captain. lesson learned. i now need to generate cash an will be doing some trade runs as well as jumping pirates at sea. at the moment i have the fleut and caravel in guadalupe, both at 100/100 strengh, lots of wheat and rum.
great game, enjoying it immensely. it would be cool to get my flag into the game, but that is way, WAY above my head.

fleut's and caravelles are actually pretty bad ships. the fleut's ok, but the caravel! oh boy. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> it's the slowest ship in the entire game.

very true! but it has a big-ass hold. that's why i'm gonna use it for a coupla trade runs then sell it. speaking of which. for trade missions, do i need to talk to the store-keeper, or someone else?
thanks,
bc

the store keeper. you should do so as well at your destination point to finish the msision. do take care that you don't accidentally sell the cargo or use it. if you have high luck, (minimum of 4) you could try smuggling, which is much more profitable. Mahogany is a very good bet.

want a better hold? i could give you one...Corvette with 200000000 storage space <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" /> .now THAT'S a ship the store keeper wont be able to fill! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

what if he would? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> i think that he could do that actually. that would makes tens of millions! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Getting your flag into the game is pretty easy, actually. Get the TX Converter program from my site (modding tools page). Convert RESOURCE\Textures\flagall.tga.tx to .tga with that program, open it with a program that can open TGA files, replace the flag with the hawks on it with your own flag, save it and convert it back. You should now use your own flag when raising your own personal colours.

YEA ! It worked - now I'm off to see if I can do some sails <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" /> (after reading the destructions again of course!)

Well ... that worked too! Yipee got me own fllag and sails now.

Did note however that the program produces a mirror image of the sail which you have to allow for. (not a problem though)

A WHAT??? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

I drew the emblem like this "<----" in the converter program
but when it what shown on the sail it showed like this "---->"
Just reversed the picture and everything was O.K.

(The arrow thing is not the actual emblem - just shown to illustrate the point) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />

Are these still the directions for importing your personal flag? For some reason I cannot find the flagall.tga.tx file.

Cheers!

Well it looks like this here thread is slightly outdated... things have changed since 2007! :shock
What you'll need now is RESOURCE/Textures/flags/perflg#.tga.tx where # represents the game period in which the flag set is used.
The easiest thing to do is convert perflg3.tga.tx to TGA format, replace Nathaniel Hawk's flag with your own, and convert the file back to TGA.TX.
Alternatively, if you're flag is meant to serve as a pirate flag, then convert pirflg3.tga.tx, and replace Nathaniel's pirate flag with your own.
You can do the same for perpnt#.tga.tx or pirpnt#.tga,tx if you want personalised pennants, too.

You can technically do the same for any personal or pirate flag, and then talk to your crew on deck to change to your preferred flag, but the above method is a good trial run.

Excellent! Thank you. I figured this might be the case.

Out of curiosity, do you know the horizontal distortion rate of the pennants? I noticed that the textures are rather stretched when displayed in-game.

You'll probably just have to guess by trial and error, I think. :shrug Keeping the pennants simple also helps.

The shape and size of the pennants varies from ship to ship and mast to mast. Some are short and fat and some are long and thin. The flags vary some too, but not as much.

Try choosing a ship with pennants you like and then build to suit those pennants, or make your own shape and we can try to standardize on that.
