New player with problems!

You've got a pretty amazing skipper here in Pieter. I'm certainly impressed.

Okay, finally finished uncompressing and installing (took about an hour or so for some reason, again) and...drum roll please...

...

...

It worked! Kind of. I'm in the PoTC Build 13 and the engine seems to be working. However I've got some issues still. Some might just be nothing but others don't look very good.

<b>Missing graphics:</b>
Several portraits and full model illustrations are missing from character selection. This could just be because they're not seen as important but at least two lack either a portrait or a full body model. Most are missing one or the other.

Missing item graphics at merchant/vendors for Pistol Bullets, Gunpowder and Grapeshot.

<b>Pathing Waypoints Visible:</b>
I see displayed notations, all over the place, like "Goto" and under that "Goto 14." Also notations like "Merchant" and under it "mrtActive1" are visible floating in the air.

<b>No Save:</b>
Kinda crucial, there doesn't seem to be a save option anymore or is that a change in the mod? Can you only save at specific locations now?

Missing graphics: I was afraid of that. They're supposed to be there. Apparently more was not extracted than just the code files. I really don't understand what's going on at your computer. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Pathing Waypoints Visible: Open PROGRAM\InternalSettings.h and set VISIBLE_LOCATORS to 0 at the bottom of the file. Not sure why it would be on 1 in the first place though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

No Save: Uh? You should be able to save just fine. Unless you accepted an artifact from a monk. What happens when you try to save?
 
I've got no idea what's going on either! But the missing graphics seem to be related to the new build if I'm correct. The earlier graphics seem to be fine. Hurm.

When I try to save the option is just greyed out. Not available. I was at the first port just after picking up the new spyglass when I tried it.
 
You should be able to save just fine there. Strange. As for the missing graphics: The original game installed correctly and Build 12.1 installed correctly, but Build 13 obiously didn't. Have you tried the <a href="http://www.s31clan.com/privateftps/pietersmods/potc_downloads/build13/build13_final.exe" target="_blank">Build 13 Final</a> installer yet?
 
I tried that before but had that config error. But if that missing file is now in the folder it might just work.

Another fun error I just discovered. If I shift to first person view on land I start swaying as though I'm back shipboard. It corrects itself once I shift back to third person though but you can still see the avatar swaying until you move him. Or, maybe, he's just drunk? Hmm. Perhaps imbibing a spot of rum would be the proper course of action right about now?
 
Have you tried <a href="http://www.moddb.com/mods/9269/potc-build-mod/downloads/8996/potc-build-13-full" target="_blank">Build 13 Full</a> then? Perhaps that does install correctly?
As for the swaying main character: You don't stand completely still if you stand still either, do you? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />
 
Err. Well, not exactly like a statue but not exactly like Otis either (Otis was a character in the old Andy Griffith show who was the town drunk). <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> I'll try both downloads. The first one looks like it'll be an hour. Hopefully that will work. If not, I'll try the other. Thanks again for all the help. This is certainly above and beyond the call of duty.
 
Alright! Everything seems to be working fine and proper now. I still have some questions but those are probably more along the lines of gameplay/interface elements than real technical issues.

Wow. They say the journey is often more rewarding than the destination but in this case I'm pretty happy to have gotten to the end of all that! Now for the fun stuff. Thanks again, cap'n. In your debt. We'll meet again in another forum and soon, doubtless.
 
Glad you got it sorted finally. Which installer worked? If you installed Build 13 Full, you should still install Update 3 as well on top. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Okay, there is one bug so far. Some of the textures aren't working correctly at night. Stone walls, forts, towers and at least one house, seem to be glowing white. Not sure if it's really a daytime texture or something different but it's definitely not right. Not a gamestopper but definitely something I'd like to fix if possible.
 
Those are the buildings that were added with the BuildingSet mod. These "buildings" are actually blades and guns of stationary characters, which is the reason why they look so weird. There's nothing much that can be done about that. Like I always say: It's either a weird BuildingSet mod or no BuildingSet mod at all. I prefer the weird one. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

there's build 14 alpha 6 too, if you'd want to go for it.
 
Would disabling the BuildingSet mod hurt other components of the Build mod? And, uh, I think I'll stick with Build 13 for now! Just got it running and I've never played PoTC before. But certainly later.
 
well, the main reason i told you about it is because it contains a mod which allows you to sail from one island to another without using the worldmap, but you can download this from the FTP too to install it on build 13 manually.

Ah! here's a idea! ..put a Predator in the game in a quest where a mutiny made crewmember runs to you from nowhere and "kills" you with a pistol and then Predator blows that crewmember to hell/pieces with his shouldercannon because he wanted to kill you by himself and then after that while you bleeding and still alive you tell Predator to take your pistol by saying "...Take it" and then you'll die - game over, video showing sun dissapearing to horizon and your ship what will never sail again and then how Predator leaves. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />
