Solved Non-Intel engine.exe sea_ai.dll crash

The crash has been occurring on the 'Nathaniel Hawk' campaign when I attempt to enter the sea area. Be it from 'on the deck' of the ship or on land, upon entering 'sea' the game crashes. I first then took my time to look for fixes rather than post, and nothing helped me in this effort. So, I compiled information that I shall show below, including my system information. Why I post 'non-intel' is because my graphics card is an AMD Radeon, and so I didn't think it would be appropriate to use the files.

I crashed it once and posted this information. I will post the 'compile.log' again as #2 to show a repeat of the crash

I thank you for having a look at this error.:ninja It has happened now about 6 times, I'm going to try just sleeping on the island I am on (Nevis, Pirate Settlement) and maybe it'll fix itself.

It appears that you are playing the original game. Is this correct? There has been nearly a decade of debugging done and the latest mod is far more stable.

About your video card. The only troublesome one is Intel graphics. Your ATI card is fine. I use an ATI HD6950 myself.
On the subject of video cards, when one upgrades the hardware to make it better in one area it can expose a weakness in another area. For instance, when I upgraded my video card I started getting that ai sea.dll crash a dozen times a day. It turned out that my power supply was not quite powerful enough to supply the video card properly. A new PSU fixed the problem. Seasonic makes the best PSU's.

I'm pretty sure I'm not on the vanilla, because I can walk strafe through buildings with a & d keys hahahaha :dance "Wait, wait dear soldier of France, I just have to reload this gun and drink these health potions.." :p

I'm playing with the New Horizons mod, Build 14, Beta 2.3. When I installed the game, I installed the vanilla game, and then installed the corresponding 2.1 full, and then the 2.3 light mod that's about 230-something megabytes, basically what the Q&A told me. I was playing the original storyline when this occurred, the 'Nathaniel Hawk' storyline.

After I posted this I tried a bunch of stuff ingame but it didn't work. I was thinking about possibly glitching to board the ship in the British port in Nevis but I didn't think it would resolve the problem. The good news, somewhat, is that I loaded a 'Master and Commander' storyline save and that worked fine (sea map, sea battles and sailing, etc) :).

Would this then be an issue of the 'Nathaniel Hawk' storyline perhaps if it doesn't reoccur on the 'Master and Commander' campaign? The mission I was on was to deliver a letter to the pirate king on Nevis from Silehard. The error occurred after delivering the letter and trying to leave. The weather is raining when I try to set sail. Am I required to put any other patches on the game besides the build mod?
 
With a correctly installed Beta 2.3, that stock loading screen should no longer show up. Only new ones should appear, which suggests to me that something hasn't worked during installation.
Are there any "RunMe.bat" or "Rename.bat" files lying around in your main game folder? I'm not really sure what you might have done wrong...
 
Aww that's unfortunate :( Yes there is a runme.bat in my main game folder. Should I run it? Perhaps I should then reinstall the game if that is the situation?

The text shown is perfectly normal; the next part is seeing if it makes a difference. Try loading a save game and seeing if the loading screens (or anything else, for that matter) have changed.
If not, try a new game. If that also fails, you should try reinstalling the game and running the batch file before starting the game.

I'll try loading an earlier save on that game and keep tweaking, and see if anything is different. I will let you's know how that works :)

EDIT #2
I tried earlier saves, and tried sleeping for a few days. I also went back to when I got the mission. Now when it crashes it keeps loading (with the old ship as the loading screen) and then crashes - this time its just a black screen.

I'll try the Master and Commander saves I got and see if they come up with something different. It seems that the 'Nathaniel Hawk' missions on my current installation are the one's being annoying hahaha :D
 
Looks to me like something went wrong with the installation. Are you sure you installed outside the Program Files folder?
 
I got the old loading screen on my last 2 installs, but on the current one I get the new loading screen. Those last 2 were hybrid European-American installs, suggesting that El Vlado has a bad install.
 
I'd suggest try to reinstall completely from the installation instructions to, say, C:\Games\Pirates of the Caribbean but NOT the default game folder in Program Files\Bethesda.

I'm going to reinstall tonight and with a new copy at the location like you's suggested, and with the European version. Hopefully that will fix the problems and put it in the newest version without any errors :) My installs were from the 'download' link that took me to the moddb website where I downloaded the required files and installed.

EDIT:

The game works, yey!! :onya It also has the new loading screens for the sea. I can start new campaigns and set sail and it works fine. I'll start a new save game and start again I guess :)

The old save game of 'Nathaniel Hawk' which was crashing, still crashes. I tried it on a normal reinstall (where the loading screen was as above), and the 2nd reinstall tuned out well. I'll put the code down the bottom to show that in that save it still crashes :( I'll just have to abandon that particular game (oh the hours! hahaha :p)

Reinstall #1

Reinstall #1 was done by installing the game in D:/Stuff/PoC, with my disks and then the subsequent patches I downloaded from the piratesahoy! download link at ModDBB, first beta 2.1 then 2.3 light. After that, I tried the game again, and then put the saves on it. The loading screen was still the 'old' version. I subsequently uninstalled and went for reinstall #2.

Reinstall #2
After spending time uninstalling, reinstalling, and uninstalling and then reinstalling again, I then continued on this reinstall. I was helped by Hylie in what to actually install and installed it again with his instructions in the best way to apply the mod to the game. Once done, I applied the mods at the same location (D:/Stuff/PoC) at the relevant application. The game worked well, and the loading screen was the proper one (yey!) so the game worked fine. However, when I used my savegame and loaded it, it crashed again.

This part of the compile.log has me concerned. First there is an error with the Coast Guard and then it is not called Nevis. Could this be the source of your crash? Were you doing any smuggling?
 
Nevis is NEVER called that in the code; all the islands are still referred to by their old names. The new names only take effect right before displaying on the screen.

That still leaves the issue of the Coast Guard and smuggling. Talisman worked on this a while back but I do not recall if it was repaired.
 
You did nothing wrong, we are just trying to find the cause of your problem. I've been looking for the thread about broken smugglers but can not find it yet.
 
I wasn't smuggling anything though I may have had contraband. It was after the Nathaniel Hawk mission where you have to give the letter to the Pirate King, and he tells you to go back to Silehard that it crashed. It is this mission:

Quest 8 Deliver the letter to Pirate Lord
When you are back to Redmond Governor, he is so mad that you failed the task. But he will give your reward anyway. Your next task is so simple. You have to deliver the letter to Pirate chief at Pirate Hide out. Just go and deliver. It seems that Governor has been using Pirate Lord's help.

I then today was trying to salvage the save. Eventually I was able to salvage that save by loading 8 saves back (I took the advice in the readme to save alot :onya) and when I went out to sea it worked (before getting the letter from the pirate king). At the shoreline however was like 5-6 vessels, several British frigates and a couple of Portugese traders. I'm assuming these were supposed to popup after I did the mission originally on the version it stuffed up on.

I then went back and gave the letter to the pirate king and slept a night at the tavern. Afterwards I ran towards the ocean to see if it worked without glitching, and it did :)

Glad you got it working. 8 saves back? :8q That might be a new record as I have never had to go back more than 4 saves to salvage a broken game.

There are always at least 6 ships around every island and for some reason when you leave Nevis they are always right in front of the dock. Since Nevis is a Pirate port there are usually some Pirate ships there, meaning you jump right into a battle. You missed that. :ship
