Oxbay and Tobias

There was a time limit on that thing? That is actually pretty cool. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Yep, although I only went through it a couple of times, I did have to chase that ship once.

I trust this quest is not now broken.

it is. in fact, i didn't get the option to help him out as there wasn't a place to actually help him (there where no enemies). then, i went to sea. no ship. much later, i when i went to sea, the ship WAS there, but it was neutral, and i broke the quest in so many ways (killing edgar, for instance) that i wondered if i would find edgar again when i would have boarded the ship. then my savegame broke, so i never had the chance to find out. anyway, the quest's seriously bugged in some places.

Long Story Short: Edgar Attwood quest broken, don't take him to Greenford port, otherwise he makes a fine gunner when you do Pieter's little fix to actually make him a Gunner.

Henry Avery

better still, don't have him with you when you go to greenford. you'll have to go there sometime, like while continuing the main quest.

Pieter, back to the dialog issue again.

I'm trying to make Attwood have normal dialog, since his quest is broken. And Rabel and Tobias while I'm at it.

I ran
Characters[GetCharacterIndex("Edgar Attwood")].Dialog.Filename = "Enc_Officer_dialog.c";
Characters[GetCharacterIndex("Rabel Iverneau")].Dialog.Filename = "Enc_Officer_dialog.c";
Characters[GetCharacterIndex("Counterspy")].Dialog.Filename = "Enc_Officer_dialog.c";
from the console.c but it just made them stop talking altogether.

I looked at \PROGRAM\Quests\quest_reaction.c but I couldn't decide what to do. Does that code also need to go somewhere else to get them to "talk like a normal officer"?

Henry Avery

I think you should give them a current node too, like this :
characters[GetCharacterIndex("Edgar Attwood")].dialog.currentnode = "hired";
characters[GetCharacterIndex("Rabel Iverneau")].dialog.currentnode = "hired";
characters[GetCharacterIndex("Counterspy")].dialog.currentnode = "hired";

A Simple Virtual Sailor is correct. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Cool! Thanks guys!
I'm so happy! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I hope so. The question is: Who would fix it? It's a lot of work and I already <i>have</i> plenty of stuff to do as far as modding work is concerned. Not to mention my non-PotC activities. As much as I would want to, I can't do <i>everything</i>. I am willing to help whoever would want to work on fixing this, but if I have to do it myself, it'll take forever until I get round to actually doing it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I guess there is no way of knowing who broke it in the first place, is there?

Would be nice for who ever it was to fix it.

I don't even know what exactly is wrong, let alone what messed it up. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

There may not be anything wrong with it. I switched Attwood's voiceset to the default, but I seemed to have done the quest anyway, I think. As I progressed with the main quest he jumped ship at Redmond, and I bought him out of prison for 5000 gp and I haven't had a problem with him since. All of a sudden he's fine to go to Greenford and Redmond.

Henry Avery

I am a bit confused. Is there a problem? And if so: What is the problem? Exactly? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I thought there was a problem because whenever I went to Greenford with Edgar Attwood, he disappeared off my ship and wound up in the tavern where we had to fight a few pirates. I even had him disappear off my ship at QC and wind up in Greenford tavern. But as I progressed in the Main Quest, after I delivered the statues in Redmond, I believe, he disappeared again. I went to the tavern and had the option to pay some soldiers to help free him or go talk to the jailer. I talked to the jailer and he gave me back Edgar for 5000 gp and Edgar hasn't jumped ship in Greenford anymore.

It's wierd because there is no dialog for Edgar when you save him in the tavern in Greenford. So the quest seems broken, but in fact it's just a matter of time thing, I think.

Then the quest is not broken. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />

The time he gets arrested, and you have to talk to the soldiers, as you describe it, is exactly as it should be.

That is unless, you no longer get the option of bribing the soldiers so they tell you where to attack the other soldiers guarding/escorting Attwood.

I chose this option of freeing Atwood myself and did it once by killing the soldiers and on another game, by attacking the prison ship.

I thought the quest was : for what I had understood, on Greenford he disapears, you fight with him some drunken pirates in the tavern, he says he won't do it again, and he disapear again the minute you go out the tavern, and again and again. That the problem I had the last time I've played this quest (and the only time in fact), but that was quite a long time ago.
