i am not a modder either, but the biggest difference with your ideas from the normal game is in the quests. considering stormy start is a different beginning, i think it's possible to do your different start and go from there.

i do like your ideas in any case <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

i was thinking about this earlier, and was thinking about what we could do to make the game more interesting....
i was thinking about DMC and a possible "Community Expansion Pack" for it, involving Jack Sparrow. first of all, we'd need the Flying Dutchman. it would be one helluva ship to fight in the end. make an option at the beginning [when the game is loading, open an interface, with the option of a normal game, or Jack Sparrow's Adventures]. Jack Sparrow's Adventures would start with you fighting your way out of a jail as Jack, and head for the port, fighting your way through the enemies with a dagger, until you get to the Interceptor, and sail out with guns blasting, with near minimum crew and a randomly damaged hull. after that, you continue the game as normal, except you work with the pirates instead of the Brits, who are against you. somewhere in the middle, you go to a place like Khael Roa, called Isla de Muerta, and fight barbossa, and recapture the Pearl. then you continue the game as a pirate among pirates, feared and hated by just about everyone, and doing missions that you get at Tortuga, the only place where people know that the Black Pearl is really your ship. at the end of the game, you need to sink the Flying Dutchman, and kill Davy Jones [barbossa with a dark green coat instead of blue or black, and a tentacle beard. it would require a reskin of the face...]. the way to kill him would involve a strategy of blocking and stabbing, with new abilities like Terror of the High seas, where all the enemies in the area are knocked down by 25%% in every skill for a short period of time [unlocked after going through the temple, looking for The Dead Man's Chest, instead of treasure] and the "Lover's taunt", an ability which would weaken Davy Jones only, by having a certain tune play, which would effect his ability in combat by reminding him of his lost loved one. [something like 15% drop in all combat related skills to Davy Jones only]. the Flying Dutchman can be captured, but you MUST kill Davy Jones, otherwise it's game over.

i think that all that'd have to be done would be to change the start missions, edit some locations, make a new ship [or reskin an old one, taking a vote on the boards which ship should be reskinned, or have a ship skinner take his pick...], and reskin a character model.....but i am not a modder, and only you guys could know exactly how easy or difficult this mod would be.

anyway, what do you think?

I think this should be quite possible, but you'd need to make some new character and ship skins and I don't know who would want to do that. Also it would require some new quests. I don't like to have to choose the game I want to play at the beginning. I think the game should be completely open-ended and you should be able to do what you like. If you play as Jack Sparrow, you shouldn't be forced to play that quest instead of the original one. And if you don't play as Jack, you should still be able to play the Jack quest. Simply put: No matter as which character you play, you should be able to do everything. You should even be able to play both the original quest and the Jack quest in the same game. And I think it's easier that way as well. The major problem is, like always: Who is actually going to work on this? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

BTW: I have moved the replies to your other identical thread into this one and removed the other one. I take it you want to keep the one with the poll, right? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

And to answer the question in the poll: Yes, I would play it. I think it'd be great fun to have some more film-related things added to the game. But like I said above: I'd prefer it if all quests were available to all players, whether they play as Jack Sparrow or not.

I think it would be nice to slightly modify the current main quest to be a more Jack Sparrow like quest. It might not actually require that much work. And then we could extend the current main quest with the Dead Man's Chest parts. That way we get a game where we can play as Jack Sparrow and where we can follow the events of the movies more-or-less, but where we are also free to fill in the gaps between the movies. Or completely ignore the movies and play our own story. Or play the story of the movie with a completely different main character.

And what about adding the Napoleonic stuff into the same game? Imagine playing the current main quest first. Then as a reward for your services to England, you are awarded a Letter of Marquee and a position in the Royal Navy. Or you enlist in the Royal Navy at the beginning of the game. And once you're enlisted, you start fighting the French. Until you have had enough and you join the pirates. And then you make a bargain with Davy Jones to raise the Pearl from the bottom of the sea and then you get to play the events from the movies as well. All in the same game. And you can do it all in the order you like yourself. So you can also start as Jack Sparrow and once your debt is finally settled (there should be multiple options to acchieve this), you can enlist in the Royal Navy.

I think a other start like you mentioned Lord Nelson, would be a good idea, fighting you way out of the prison (dungeon en fort locations with a worn cutlass (the enemies shouldn`t be strong) and then capture the interceptor.

and with that barbossa thing, maybe we could let it be a duel between you a few pirates barbossa will and elizabeth, and that in a reskinned animist lair.

I voted 'Yes' - i think all possible avenues should be looked at in terms of adding content to the game where we can. I do agree with Pieter about not 'railroading' the overall game though - open ended is essential for replayability. So while i like the idea of more 'scenarios' i also like the idea of adding more content/stuff for the player to do in the open-ended version.
I really like the idea of rewarding the player with the extra scenarios(that letter of marque to join the navy after govenors quest finished is a nice one).

i like Pieters oppinion to keep it open ended. it's just been so long since i last play the game that i've kinda forgotten how fun it is to play open ended sailing games. i've swerved towards strategy games [realistic world TBS games like Imperial Glory, and semi fantasy RTS games like Age of Mythology.] and RPGs [Oblivion is a game i'm itching to try out, and i have some others like Prince of Persia: the Two Thrones]
anyway, try my idea, in Pieter's open ended setting. i personally think it would make the game "much more better"! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />

A yes here as well. I'd like to play it just to see how the games based on the property are advancing, or not. I've got to give disney a chance to really show something shiny and worthwhile.

i was honestly thinking of a mod, but a whole new game would work as well, provided we can still have all the ships, skins and features that the Build mod has given us...

Thats just it, they are doing a new game based on the new movie. Though I'm not sure if it would be what we are looking for.

It looks to be a bit of a toned down, almost Sid Meier's type of game.

Plus I didn't fully realize we were discussing another mod until I reread everything. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Anyhow, here's the link to the new PotC:DMC game, just for grins and giggles!

And I just got a better look at it. Its Sony PSP only. Dirty rotten scoundrels!

I like the idea of choosing between original game and Jack Sparrow better. It would be confusing othervise.

i voted no because i played it on the psp of my cousin and its to lineair and thats what i like so mutch about potc ITS NOT

Sadly pretty much all the other movie spin of games based around the film are very poor - typical movie tie-ins really.

I doubt you will ever see a decent 'jack sparrow' game, unless you make/mod one yourself.

exactly why i made this topic for in the first place. if we could mod PotC into that, dont you think it'd be great?

That is reminding me something...

i really wish someone could do that. even if it was just for one character. i mean, Jack just isn't Jack if he doesn't talk like Jack.....<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />

we'll lad you said your such a good jack imitator speak a line in a mic and i'm sure 1 of our great modders can add it to Jack

it would be great laugh if you could add certain dialogues to certain situations. ''STOP BLOWING HOLES IN MY SHIP!" for instance, like when your ship health gets below 10%. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> i think it would be so much fun having that.

i rather have it after 2 hits <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

well yes, but i think my time would be easier to program into the game. any other suggestions of lines? how about something with the undead monkey?
