PotC Build 12 Release Announcement

Thanks, it worked <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Just the end of the installation, I´ve got an error "The file D:potcBuildsettings.h could not be opened."

I think that the install program tried to set the european version in Buildsettings.h, but it failed, because the Buildsettings.h is in the PROGRAM directory, not in the main directory (bug in the installation program?). I have to do it manually...

Last file that was copied before error:

File Copy: D:potcBuild12 Readme_filesimage005.gif | `11-09`-2004 | 09:16:22 | | 2691 | c97d70fe
The file D:potcBuildsettings.h could not be opened.

Is it a normal that build 12 doesn´t include the engine.exe file? (build 11 did)

HOORAY ! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" /> Congratulations to everyone involved, especially to those who did the compiling, editing, testing and documentation. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> IMHO that's more labor than actually writing mods.

<!--QuoteBegin-Mad_Jack+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Mad_Jack)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->The installer has been optimized with modem users in mind. It automatically connects to the server and pulls down only the files that are required, and does so in small packages. This means that if you lose connectivity in the middle of the install, you can restart it without having to `re-download` the entire package. The installer will simply pick up where it left off.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Thanks a lot, very considerate. My modem and me really appreciate that. (50 MB download? OMG! Will have to take a day off for that and attach a cooling fan to my modem <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> But it's for sure worth the effort.)

Does that mean that any future mods can be added piece by piece by the authors, and in reverse the players can download any additions whenever they want? So in the future there is no need anymore for big packaging efforts like a Build13 but rather a continuous updating ?

I'm glad you finally finished this great piece of work.
But when I try to install it, it says.

"Could not connect to network server, error 3" java script:emoticon('<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />')

EDIT: Sirus_Darke gonna be testin' tew se if'n de European version users indeed need de US engine.exe file. If'n so, den Fred Bob done made him an error in judgement in leaving it out! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

That means either the server was not available, your system was not connected to the internet, or your firewall is not allowing the installer the communicate.

I have a potential solution for those having trouble with Build 12 (i.e. those who have `non-US` versions of POTC).
I can't test this, because I have only a US version--so this isn't a sure thing.
1. Download the file B12Temp.exe from the FTP.
2. Run it, and point it to your POTC folder. It will run the delocalizer.
3. Follow Fred Bob's excellent instructions to point the Build 12 installer to an empty folder (i.e. change your existing POTC path to c:tempb12 or something)
4. Run the full Build 12 installer and let it install to the temporary folder. Do _NOT_ check "European version"
5. Open that folder, select all, and move all files/folders to your POTC folder. Overwrite all.
6. Open POTC folderprogrambuildsettings.h and set EURO to 1

Try POTC!

Turning the firewall off, doesn't have a effect, and I'm connected to the internet every time i try!java script:emoticon('<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" />')

El Sith, I had this problem with every install. Just abort WITHOUT rolling back changes, and run the installer again. it'll skip the files already on your computer. That's called modem simulation! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Ehmm......java script:emoticon('<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />')
Thx for your quick replies, but i don't understand what you mean, Drunken.
What shall I do exactly when it says "Could not communicate to ......" ?
java script:emoticon('<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />')

1. Run the installer
2. Select BACKUPing
3. When it tells you it can't connect, abort the install. It will ask you if you want to roll back changes, select no.
4. Run the installer again.
5. Repeat the steps until it installs fully.

It worked? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Not yet
But I'm glad you answer so quicklyjava script:emoticon('<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />')
About the problem:
It just doesn't ask me to roll back changes after I have aborted
( The error message appears right at the beginning of the installation!)

are ye use'n a firewall mate,if so what are ye use'n,I'b be have'n tew adjust me firelwall tew allow it tew connect <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

The problem has nothing to do with whether or not you elect to back up existing files. The problem is that the installer cannot connect to the server to begin installing the required files. I've retested the installer, and it connects just file. So know we have to understand what it is about your system that prevents the installer from phoning home.

With many software firewalls, even if you exit the firewall software, you're only closing a control panel, not dropping the firewall itself. Check you firewall logs - this should reveal some telling information.

to everyone!
I'm using Agnitum Outpost, which offers an option to allow the `exe-files` I have chosen to connect with the internet.
The Build12.exe is an allowed file.
And even when I turn off Outpost (it says: Exit and shutdown Outpost)
the same error message appears java script:emoticon('<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />')

I recommend that anyone who is using a `non-US` version of the game <b>do not</b> install this mod until we are able to locate and rectify the problem of a black screen when you start the game.
