POTC Mod Ideas (Build 12)

I'd like to see hostile nation ship's raiding coasts once in a while instead of just pirates. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Is it possible?

Aye Skadog,I'm sure it can be done,Ive not looked at de code fer coastal raiders, but if ye add a line for what nation and percentage of chance fer runn'n into them,I'm sure it would werk.great idea mate, however whatever nation ye fight wid yer relations will drop I would think <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Thats nothing a little gold cant cure <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate_plain.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p3" border="0" alt="pirate_plain.gif" />

Ye got a valid point dar mate, fer meself I couldn't give a rats arse about me rep in de game,It doesn't affect what I do best <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Yeah, I always thought it would be interesting if privateers actively hunted you after your rep had gotten to be too bad. It would certainly make the game a little more interesting. Maybe even bounty hunters on land as well.. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate_plain.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p3" border="0" alt="pirate_plain.gif" />

There already is some "Avenger" code in the game that is linked to the Loansharks. So it should be possible to copy and modify this so that it's linked to your reputation.

Aye JMV,yer Rep affects doing business in towns,gett'n hitched,doing sidequests,but it does not stop ye loot'n plunder'n ships is what I meant mate <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

how about a multiplayer mod? that would be crazy! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />

Yes, it would be excelent if rep had more of an effect on decision making. How could that be done though?

We already have damsels in distress being chased by bandits, how about escaped slave being chased by slavers or owner. Or instead of highwaymen waiting arround the jungle roads how about renegade slaves.

I think you're supposed to be able to encounter escaped slaves and shipwrecked people. There are those slave models but you never actually see them `in-game`... Must be another encounter that needs plugged in, as Disney must have unplugged it. Damn their mouse ears.

The issue I take with adding more highwaymen like characters is more of an issue with all games, not just this one. Basically, what is pulling you to make any decision in the game? What would keep anyone from helping the slaves? What really makes someone help or not help the woman running from the rapers? There are no repercussions from so many of these actions that decisions become meaningless. For that matter, its really not an RPG. its really not a sailing simulation because so much of the physics of a AI of a real sea battle is missing. And its really not an adventure game because the story is certainly not compelling and the action is choppy. I will end this post now because to continue down this line of thought will just make me mad at Akella.

Yes, Akella. I don't blame them for selling out to Disney. I'm just pissed that I'm beginning to think that even what they had planned for the game wasn't all that great. When you look at what they are planning for the next generation of sailing games... sure the graphics look good, but I truly get the impression they are geared for little kids.

Damn it, I'm really pissed now. I think I'll have to reintstall KOTOR. (Imagine a pirate adventure with the depth of KOTOR. Think of what IL2- Sturmavik did for Flight Simulators, nothing has come close. Imagine a sailing game with that level of precision. That type of commitment to detail is what makes a good game).

<!--`QuoteBegin-jmv575`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jmv575)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->sure the graphics look good, but I truly get the impression they are geared for little kids.
Bottom line here is, that they are. They are NOT for historians, historians tend to like books and not playing computer games. Kids like to play computer games, and most kids who do play computer games are MALE and they are in high school and they don't really get too excited about history.

Does anyone know if KOTOR is modable? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> I liked history in high school.. I just hated every thing else. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />

<!--`QuoteBegin-jmv575`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jmv575)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Haha, I guess you are right.  Sorry about the outburst before.
Ah no need to apologize - we all wish for different things about this game... Me, I want to know how to make new character MODELS... Other than that, I can ignore some historical inaccuracies - as long as I can let my imagination run free I am wherever and whenever in the game I wish to be. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I *loved* history in high school (still do)... But there were few boys who did - and the ones who did were usually SO wrapped up in it that you couldn't talk to them about anything else... Heh... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />

Trying to steam up their glasses, Lady Cat? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

I'm finding that any merchant ships I go after routinely surrender to my ship the minute I board them. (With the exception of the escort ship with soldiers on them. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" /> )

I was wondering if the crews of merchant ships could be made up of the towns people, where some of them are walking around armed, but most of them are not. What I'm envisioning is a set up on a ship similar to when you get into a fight in town when you, or one of your officers "inadvertently" hit one of the good guys, and people either attack you or start running for high ground.

Let's say you attack a merchant ship and board her, the action switches to the boarding screen, but rather than soldiers you have a bunch of civillians, with some of them drawing weapons, but a lot of them running around and cowering. Once you defeat all of the armed people you would get the option to hit F3 and either advance to a lower deck, or they surrender, or you could practice real piracy by bumping off the remaining unarmed people. (And subsequently taking all the appropriate hits to your reputation. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" /> )

I realize this is kind of a gruesome thought, but it strikes me that most of the reputation hits occuring in the game come to you almost by accident rather than making a conscious choice and this would let you actually earn that "Bloody Terror", or "Horror of the High Seas".

I know this would be even more complicated, but if you could run up a black flag or jolly roger while in the sea mode and the merchant ship opposite you had the option of running up a white flag in response, (then when you board it goes to the surrender screen,) however, if they do not surrender, you could then run up the Red or "No Quarter" flag and in pirate logic, anybody on the ship is fair game. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />
