POTC Mod Ideas (Build 12)

Good idea. I would also like to see the option of surrendering yourself. Sometimes I have wished I could just spare my crew and strike my colors instead of having them raked with grape and musket shot. Perhaps you could then be dropped off at your home port (whatever nation you are) with a lot of debts.etc... another way of having to crawl your way back up.

<b>jmv575, </b>your idea is good, too. If you get jumped by a more powerful force - yes, you should be able to surrender and get cast adrift in a rowboat or something... Start again, like the "resurrection mod"... Cool idea, it takes the "cast adrift by the storm" section of the main quest and brings it a step further. Yeah, the slow reloading of cannons kills me. Alternatively, we could code a skill that lets you focus all your firepower on one side of the boat, as if you physically moved all cannons there. You'd get double the firepower out of one side.

This wouldn't help reload times per se, but you wouldn't need to reload or turn about as often if you sank your foe in a single broadside.
 
I like that, Eamon, like volley shots - half your cannon on one side will fire, then the second half can fire while you are reloading...

Or half your cannon are loaded with knippels and half with balls...
 
Ooh, an idea out of the blue: How about we install a tattoo parlour somewhere on one of the islands? Pirates certainly had tatts, and they had to have gotten them somewhere... It's farfetched, but maybe you could design some ink to put somewhere on your character. Or change his looks a bit.

Or maybe some other stuff could go on there, I dunno. I like the thought of the place...
 
Interesting idea. A simpler way of doing things like that, due to the constraints of placing tatoos on a skin, would be to treat them like 'buyable' items. When you looked in your inventory then you would have a picture of an arm with a tatoo on it. It would just be a matter of creating the icons. Of course, it would be odd to unequip a tatoo. I can't quite imagine how one would go about doing that back then.

For that matter, all sorts of cosmetic changes could be achieved through using them like inventory. Perhaps medals for Naval officers, eyepatches, parrots, and monkeys for pirates etc...
 
I dont know if it has been discussed or is even possible but how about AI that actively attempts to boards ships other than the players. I have yet to see this happen... Gunboats for coatal raiders and maybe a chance to have cargo stolen off your ship while in port if you dont have an officer assigned or hire a gurad to watch it. Maybe if the ship is small enough and ripe for the picking someone could commandeer it. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />
 
Or even, ordering one of your own ships to board someone and saving you the trouble.

Tattoos as items sounds doable. Unequipping would be painful, I guess... what gave me the idea was seeing bits of skin people have collected that were skinned off a sailor's hide.

So, what purpose would tattoos hold, beyond the superficial? Could they increase luck or general "fearsomeness"?

Or, how about... Governors awarding you medals as you advance in rank or complete special tasks under their service is a splendid idea. If you're `hard-up` for cash, you could always pawn them. Or flash them around for a rep boost. Or, having them could be like virtual rep, the same way items give you a temp skill boost. A high enough medal could overcome a terrible reputation on the island of its own respective country, and make people more willing to deal with you.

On the pirate side, if you could go to Jurckson on QC and serve him (so long as you gave him a cut of the plunder, in liue of the price of a letter of marque), you'd get tattoos as you advanced in pirate rank. You couldn't sell these, and flashing them around would lower your rep among `non-pirates`, but perhaps make pirates more willing to help you.

... you'd also be hanged immediately, I suspect, if you're ever caught by the authorities. (Perhaps your ratio of medals to evil pirate tattoos could be weighed out as a sort of trial.) All the more reason for that gallows mod to succeed.
 
Add Jungles and places on islands

Is there anyone who know the method to add places on the existing islands like in the russian morgan pack ?

For example, i think the land we can go on QC is too small. In the russian morgan pack, when you go to the strange pirate house, you are in a place like the Oxbay jungle and after you reach the pirate house and a cave. The islands seems to be bigger than in the original POTC game. This method don't need to create new places. It is only necessary to load another existing place when you change of screen.

With this method, It will be interesting to add some new beaches where whe could land on shore from the sea. Why not on QC and Falaise de Fleur. When you turn around these islands, you can see some beaches but there no access.

Another thing. The island of Kael Rhoa is very beautiful but we can only go on the shore and jungle one time in the game. Why? I think it would be cool if we could permanently go on shore on this island. We all want new islands in the game and we have this one under our look but it has no rule. That's sad, isn't it ?

I'd like to use Kael Rhoa for a lot of things. Stash your booty there... Visit a wrecked ship graveyard just off its coast... And there needs to be more to do at the incan tample, since it just gets wrecked after Danielle steals from it.

Seems to me if you're just talking about entering new reload locations, it should be easy. Just find the link between two locations, maybe out in the jungle, say, points A and B; and put a new link between them. Then you've got points A - C - B to go through. You'd just have to be mindful to put trails and such where trails need to be. In the same way, I imagine new beaches could be added, and they ought to be reachable both via walking on land and as a `sail-to` location from out at sea. They just wouldn't show up as a new beach on the island without some remodelling, unless existing beaches had some sort of link attached that you could use those.

As far as how this coding could be done... I've only the vaugest of ideas.

You also talk like you've played the A&M mod. How'd you manage that? I think the team's only halfway done translating it.
 
I've just installed the russian pack on my potc to see what it looks like and try it a little but i don't understand russian so now i've uninstalled it.

you're quite right, it would be really easy to vastly expand the jungles of the islands (for example) by reusing the existing jungle locations and stringing them together in different ways. the coding would be really easy - it's just all about finding the right "reloads", which is nothing more than `trial-and`-error. you can use the gmview tool to look at the different jungle locations that are available, work out how you'd like to map them together, and i can help you alter the location code... the only thing you'd have to watch out for is that at least one of the jungle locations has a signpost in it; you'd have to create a new texture for it, changing the lettering on the signpost...

it is even possible to add new beaches; you'd have to reuse existing beach models, and then edit the island and worldmap code to include a new 'docking point'.
 
So last night I watched for the first time that Peter Pan movie that came out last year. It was pretty atrocious, I thought, with Pan's lisp and everything, but had one redeeming factor...

Yes i know some people are working hard to translate the russian pack and that's a great thing because this pack looks very promising.

But i've followed all the dialogs in this forum about that and i've understood that the english morgan pack won't be compatible with the PMT build 11. It's very harm because the PMT build 11 is full of great things too. When the pack will be finished, we'll have to choose between it and the PMT build 11 or reinstall the game in a new location to play the two mod.

I've looked the structure of the russian pack to determine how they did to add new beaches and expand jungles but there's nothing new in the program folder. All the new things seems to be in the compiled engine.exe and in the resource folder. So my idea was to expand jungles and add new beaches on islands in the build 11 by using the places where we never go in the game (like the beautiful beach with the frigate wreck behind the waterfall on Douwesen for example).

yeah we could add new settlements; problem is that they'd have to be based on existing models. (unless you happen to be an amazing 3d modeller? i'm not <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> ) an idea i had a while ago was to put a new beach on quebradas costillas or somewhere and reuse the house in the jungle on douwesen, and create a secluded hideaway that you can only get to once you've been told where the beach is... dunno what i'd use it for though <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" /> might be a cool idea for a quest?

I have Maya but have not even gotten into trying to learn it, fiddled with it some but as I have no desire to make ships and you can't import new character models into PotC, I just let it sit...

I *was* supposed to learn Maya via the PMT, but well, I voluntarily resigned from their ranks so that's the end of that... I know I can learn it myself but it will take time... Grumblepunk was learning, and getting good, but he's gone too, and I am sorry he isn't coming back...

I'd like to see something like what you've suggested here, Kieron - a secluded house in the jungle - a different beach on QC - perhaps the only way to get to it is via that beach... Maybe a tunnel or cave can be used...

HECK, the whole other half of Falaise de Fleur is just EMPTY and waiting for modding if we can cut some beaches into it, that would work, too! For HUGE things like towns &tc...

<sigh> I am getting ahead of myself. I am NOT Nathan Kell in coding experience, nor am I a modeler like Surak'nar... Not that we cannot get along without the assistance of the aforementioned people, but it's a simple fact that IMHO I am mostly experienced with Photoshop and so my "bankable" skill is in textures... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />:

I promised myself I wouldn't get caught up in anything *too* involved as far as modding goes, after I got finished with the Fred Bob quest - but I find myself more and more drawn back to the fact that WE NEED MORE INTERESTING QUESTS for PotC!

I think Skull may be working on something, tho I also think his "real life" may have had to interfere with that lately...

I've been working on that Sneaky Trader mod but got bogged down in wanting him to do a trick he is not, PLUS trying to balance that with trying to keep the code "small"... <sigh> Don't know if I can have both...

Oh well, I'm rambling...
