Pre Build 13 Modpack

hmm, game crashes even though i rolled back to 16.08 update... this is what i get in error log:

RUNTIME ERROR - file: seadogs.c; line: 764

and system log (not sure if it's needed here, but just in case):

i am at a loss... i made some simple and most likely safe adjustements following instructions from piratesahoy previously to buildinfo.h and such but it should be long overwritten, right? before the initial apply of the new patch i only had 1 CTD when trying to alt-tab, now it happens everytime i try to quicksave (6 times so far) and sometime when leaving/entering the town (2 instances)

EDIT: it also happens when i go to regular save...

EDIT 2: that was the last runtime error i got:

Well something is definitely messed up in boarding unless I have a bad save. Two stuck after talking to captured enemy. The next time I went to the enemy cabin I was frozen and there was a guy cowering in there in addition to the guy I was supposed to talk to.

Didn't notice any graphics changed with the new engine, other than it has a new 'icon'. Guess I'm not paying attention enough. I did notice a new butt-ugly compass, but that was easily changed with setting it back to '2' instead of '3' in BS.h.

As for the boarding code?

You know what?

I'm pretty fed up with the incredible heap of teetering crap that is the boarding code right now. None of these problems existed back when I left for vacation. It had a fairly wishwashy method of determining crew numbers after the fight, but that was it (and hook is fixing that!). I am SOOoooOoo eager for Hooks code.

I thought that was an alpha you sent.

Anyhow... someone edited a bunch of code on the 'outside' of the boarding code, that directly influences that code. So... trying to use your new code with those changes will most likely result in problems.

If I get time, I will revert those changes, so your code isnt affected negatively by them. Part of the ghost ship fix is removing some key changes made after July30th.

Hook or Hat, would you be kind enough to have a look at my problem few posts (post no.1942)above and lemme know whether there's an easy solution for that? error logs are there as well...

thanks in advance!

Hat: It's an alpha, but it mostly works. Some things aren't tested, like what happens after you talk to an enemy captain and do something besides sticking him in the hold. Right now it's mostly tweaking and bug fixes.

Corsair: I have no idea, sorry. It sounds like an improper installation of some kind. I hate to tell someone to reinstall, but you might try it, and write down everything you do so someone can have a look at that. Also, make sure the game still works with each update you do. If the stock game doesn't work, nothing else will.

thanks for reply Hook

the stock works fine, so does everything up to 16.08 update... after i installed the new patch (21.08) i started getting this crazy error message and wasn't able to save anymore... everything up to the new patch and the shipwalk fix worked fine...

In that case, don't use the 21AUG06 patch until the bugs are worked out of it. We know it has quite a few issues. Pieter will eventually be releasing a new one, that hopefully will work better.

well unfortunately after i reinstalled 16.08 i still had the same error...
so you think i might have to reinstall the whole thing?

You'll need to start a new game in any case. If you're having DLL errors, then you probably need to do a full reinstall, something's broken somewhere.

I got an hour earlier to mess around... was confirming "one change in code fixed ghost ships", and I had done quite a few saves and reloads, and launching and quitting the game. All within the same 'boot time' of the machine. Not a single CTD regarding saves.

The error logs look like normal errors from saving. The save process has thrown these sorts of errors for as long as I can recall, and no one seems to care that it happens.

See, when it saves, it saves 'everything'. All the arrays, the globals, the variables, the ships, the characters, items etc etc etc. And it cyclings through all them when it saves. However, some variables have junk in them due to improper coding in the past.

The biggest problem with tracking those things down is... the error logs generated on save, dont actually say WHICH EXACT VARIABLE it was having issues with. So there is NO WAY to know which, out of the thousands, of variables is causing those errors.

Sorry.

thanks for trying to help out guys... i started a new game, and so far saves work fine, i hope that state endures <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Oh and BTW what happened to the nice neat columns in the program? It is all a jumble.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
You mean in BuildSettings.h, InternalSettings.h and initItems.c? I changed these files so that they show up as proper columns in Notepad++, which is a better code editor than Notepad. Notepad isn't really a code editor; it's just a program that can open and save the .c files, but Notepad++ really is much better. Download it from the Modding Tools page on my site. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I've just installed the latest update, and seems something is wronk with onshore screw mod:
I haven't option for ask to the crew to following me at shore.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
You can only ask that if you are in port and the Anchor icon shows. I think I'll revert that back to how it was originally, because this change is annoying and not really good for anything. This is caused by if(bCanEnterToLand) that was added to the Crewmember dialog files.

Also soldier patrol and Pirates Patrol seems broken.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
What do you mean with "broken"? Broken in what way?

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> I have gotten stuck on the second deck twice now with the 8/21 mod. That was fixed in the previous version.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Uh? That's odd. I removed all code that caused you to be stuck on the deck. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wacko:" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

I did notice the new august updates all have a brand spanking new ENGINE.EXE ? What the f**k is up with that? What was wrong with the original one?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
There was nothing particularly wrong with the original file. But I like the new icon that Maximus added better. And I made a new Build 13 loading screen myself, which I also like better than the original wave loading screen. It should not have introduced any problems, but if you think it might have been a cause for trouble, just use the old file: That should work just as fine as ever. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

That is the compass from AoP. Seb' added it and I coded it in so that you can easily turn it off again. I think it maybe should be turned off by default. It looks a bit odd in PotC... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Are you talking about the Russian SLiB mod or about something else? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Metes,

Soldier patrol problem (the problem is that there isn't soldier patrol in town) is solved by ask for crew onshore when I enter in a port, so no problem at all.

But I notice another problem: Many time the ships on sea aren't show in the radar, or are show as sinked even if they aren't sinked, maybe this is the problem of the gost ship, if it is so, the problem is still here.

PS.
I never encounter this problem with Post Build 12 Version: Wednesday 19 July 2006.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> bye,bye,

Known bug. Fixed for next update. So you should not see that again when you upgrade.
