Solved Quest Companion's Morale

G'day mates,

I searched through the forums but the only matter of companion morale I could find was because of loot, so sorry if I'm reposting this problem.

I'm doing The Tales of a Sea Hawk storyline on BuildMod 14.3 and during the "Strange things going on in the Caribbean" quest when you have to escort the ship from Barbados to Puerto Rico I had a few mutinies on hand. I payed the crew to get the morale to Excellent and 2/3 days passed their morale was Low again. So I made a few stops along the way to pay them during the trip and got there in the end. Thought it was a minor bug and it was 500 per morale rank.

Now I have a bigger problem... I started "The French pirate in the tavern" (escort from Puerto Rico to Barbados) and the problem persists, they have food and rum and 151 angry sailors that demand 4000 to go from a Awful morale to a Low. Even if I put it to Excellent it drops in a couple of days.

I have 120.000 on me and about 400.000 in the bank, so I don't think it is loot related. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for your time and good seafaring.

I think the morale of companion ships is also influenced by differences in the reputation of the player and the captain of the companion ship.:read

If the player's reputation is Hero ( for instance) and the companion ship captain is Bloody Terror - then the companion ship morale will drop quickly and mutiny will occur.:walkplank

It is best to have captains of companion ships with reputations close to that of the player's.

If you have serious problems because the companion captain is given to the player by a quest/story - then you can change the player or the companions reputation by using the cheats to alter them.
The information for this is in the Default Key Assignments file in the Game's documentation folder.

It was a matter of reputation, although I don't really get it since I'm a Hero and she was a Damsel (Female Neutral).

Oh well, thank you so much for the help.

Yes there is a problem there except that it is not a problem.

In your first escort mission just let them mutiny and sail away. When you get to port that ship will be there and the quest will continue.

I have never had a mutiny problem with Claire Larousse, so would say just get there as quickly as possible and ignore their rants.

The guys mutinied even with Miss Larousse. Next time, I'll try to run away and see what happens at the destination. Thank you for your help.

Alas, I have another problem concerning the illustrious Edgar Attwood. Should I make another post or can it be discussed here?

Go for it. Edgar can be a pain in la patootie but if you can get past his antics he will eventually turn into a fine officer.

Oh no, I have grown to love his bar fights and imprisonments (I actually think it makes sense, after all he's not going to change over night). My problem is that everytime he's gone to prison he came out extremely leveled but without additional ability points. So, I'm level 19, he's 40 and he only gained 2 ability points since he's been with me.

I have tried to fake level up, but if I do that he'll be way overpowered in terms of health (this is ignoring his already ridiculously high health for the game stage). I'm not too hopeful that there is a way to tone his level down or change his health but at least the ability points I would like to increase. Is it possible?

No, not that I know of. As it turns out the perks are more important than the skills. About all you can do is buy lots of books and stuff for him. He will not get perks on his own because the higher your level the slower you advance.

If I remember correctly he should only get in 2 bar fights and go to prison one time. After that I just leave him aboard ship unless I want him for dungeon diving or cave crawling.

The reputation based Morale drop should only occur if you and the captain are on opposite sides of the goodness spectrum.
So a neutral Captain shouldn't mutiny as far as i remember.
The relevant code is in worldmap\dailycrewupdates.c if you want to check.

Escort ships have been changed a bit recently to take into account double crossing on the player's part.
I think that should ensure that such a quest no longer completes after a Mutiny.
However, the captains are also generated with a reputation close to your own, so Mutiny should not be very common for them.

Ol' Edgar is especially rowdy with me apparently. Oh well, on the ship he stays. As for the abilities, I'll get there eventually.

Pieter, I did another escort quest and it went down without any problems. Must have been those two that bugged for me.

Thanks for all the help guys.
