Neat stuff!

For converting to/from VRML and other formats. The old, not-so-limited, version. Export from max to 3ds or OBJ/MTL, then use this to convert to WRL if you have a problem doing it in max (or do the reverse if importing is the problem).

You can change the folder an item looks in for textures by assigning
itm.folder = SOME_FOLDER_NAME;
it defaults to "ammo"

The vifs stuff is how the tool to names objects when writing WRL files, and the dummy object is also an artifact of that process (or of the VRML importer). Don't worry about that.

Now THAT is interesting! Saves a whole lot of trouble with the BuildingSet mod! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />

Right! I'll check that (Though I think I tried that already). But Pieter, please don't change them all on your own. Some textures in the ammo folder are NOT!!! the same as their namesakes in the root folder.

OK. Thanks for warning me, CCC. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Not sure if you saw these (or if they can help):

HEEELLLPPPPP, does anyone here live in Jamaica or have a plan of that fort?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Yeah, I know that project, they even have a full 3d city for the multigen creator software, but no plan of that particular fort.

Sorry, whatever I use as itm.folder attribute (tried with the buildingset "mansion"), the game always searches for the texture in the ammo folder, and the system.log complains if it isn't THERE:

Can't load texture resource\textures\AMMO\ENG_PALACE.TGA.tx

The only function that uses the .folder attribute seems to be Items_LoadModel, and that seems to run for the random pick-up items only.

Have you tried contacting the Port Royal Museum? It is apparently based in Fort Charles itself (since 1977). Strangely I can't find a contact number or email for the museum itself, but contacting the Museums of History and Ethnography Head Office of the Institute of Jamaica might prove fruitful (email address at the bottom of the page). If they don't have a plan or information freely available they might be able to provide a reading list. Probably a good idea to emphasise your academic credentials however to get a more positive response.

Thank you Capt. Fabris for your suggestion, but I´m afraid I have very dissapointing news <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> , the e-mail adress for that museum no longer exists. it returned my e-mail with an error message.

Oh, that is unfortunate. I've not seen another address listed online anywhere, and the domain seems to be ioj@mail.infochan.com. In that case perhaps trying a general email for the Institute of Jamaica might be worthwhile at ioj.jam@mail.infochan.com.

If it works then they can likely supply accurate contact details for the museums division (or if it is the same it might mean their email is temporarily kaput), or if the general address fails then at least we will know that the listed addresses are outdated. I'll email the general address myself as well to see what happens. I'd rather not try the museums one as this period is a little outside my period of interest/experience (more of an early medievalist myself).

I think if i remember i saw a series of books about old forts i see if i can find and get back to you if you think will help?

You are very helpful mateys, I think all I could do to thank you is creating realistic forts for the game <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Ello me hearties, be yew sailin around ere today.

I be wonderin if Capitan Caceres, as had any more luck on adding these pretty little forts into the build......afore my computer went down, CCC and Capitan Caceres, were tryin to add some of these beauties to the build....and new Islands mod..

How goes the progress

Hi there Long John, I gave CCC 2 of my models, a new keep and a triangular redoubt, you can build them with the latest mod <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I will be creating more buildings and possibly some new locations if I get the people with experience to help me.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
Ahoy thar Capitan Caceres, I be welcoming ye tew the forum, and likes yer work straight off. Even in yer signature yew be havin a scene...an IPB Image of a fort and some background of a town andd road amblin up a hill....where that shot be taken from......if'n its one of yours that be a prettie lil thing tew be addin, but I supposin that yer limited tew what the Engine of the game will be takin. Anyway wanted tew wish yew all the best and keep up the good work.....I be real envious of yer skills, that be fer sure

Also Capitan Caceres, I was just thinkin.....Aye I be doin that ever now n then tew be sure.....but thar be a gentermen around these here parts, goes by the name of Ron Losey, now he be a Teacher, of some accounts, a real bright feller, Smart as Paint, tew be sure....kinda reminds me Of n old freind of mine Jim Hawkins, anyway he be a man that might impress them thar Jamaican fellers and might get some response on that thar Fortifications you guys be wantin tew aquire, would'n be hurtin tew be askin him anyways....he certainly has the creditials tew be gettin somewheres that may be taken more seriously....

Just a thought.....

Keep yer chin up, it'll work out fer sure

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Cpt.YuKe!
CCC: Oh dear. That is odd. I see what you mean, the _SETBLADE message just has a modelname, no folder path. Shoot.

Hi there, I just wanted to revive this thread to post my new models pictures here, I just got to see that Port Royal fort in google earth, so from now on it will be a cakewalk, the bad thing is that I still dont know how to add the lighthing.

Welcome back Capitan C.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Cheers <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
