Sailor Music

Hehe,
I've just found some new music. They are traditonal Sea Working Songs and Shantys, like "<i>Haul away, Joe</i>", " <i>Haul the Bowline</i>", "<i>Roll down the Cotton</i>" or "<i>Santy Anno</i>" sung by the sailors when a job of hauling on a line was expected to last a long time, hoisting topsails, for example. They were sung in a special rythm to sychronize the sailors movement when they drag the ropes. They were sung in A Capella (without any instruments).

They should work for the world map, too.

The songs sounds great but in my opinion it sounds a little strange (but surly realistic) when they played alone, so I try to mix the songs with the music from my "<b>Cutthroat Island Music Pack</b>". I try to reach that you hear the orchestral music during sailing and the singing crew softer in the background. But this a lot of work, I think.
Maybe it is easier with coding to play a second music file, but I don't know if it is possible to play two music files at the same time and I don't know anything of coding <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> so I have to do the long and complicated way.

But I hope the result will be fine, so maybe there will be a singing crew at the end. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Maybe I have to release a new "Cutthroat Island Music Pack with singing Crew". <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

[edit]Bah, I tested it but the singing and the orchestral music didn't fit together. So I put the crew songs in seperatly without mixing them with CI Soundtrack. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dp_nogd.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ng" border="0" alt="dp_nogd.gif" /> [/edit]

I have an official HMS Victory cd, with a load of music, drummers beating to quarters ect. Shoud be easy enough for me to extract said files so one of you clever clogs can incorporate in POTC ?

now that would be intreasting, beating to quarters sound plays when you get close to hostiles, or if your attacked at sea have a sound shouting "beat to quarters!

i'm working on the preperations, it'll take a little time, but it'll get done. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Just checked and the files are .wav, so are easily ported to mp3 then over to the potc format, not that I know what the potc format is. Theres a few nice stormy deck creaking sequences, with the sound of the sea spraying the deck, drummers beating to quarters, authentic sounds of canon getting reloaded, prepared for fire with authentic tools, various canon fire, melee, and appropriate band music ect ect. Very professionally done to boot.

hang on, hang on. i've only learned how to mod the music. but i figure i can do sound effects as well. i know which files i need, and i know it works roughly the same, so i should manage. this could turn into something good. those better sea-spray and cannon-sounds might even be put into the build. i certainly feel something for it. the format i need is OGG, but i can convert them myself. they don't nessesarily have to be in mp3, but it would reduce the size of them.

lol... I've replied to your mail mate, with 2 samples, though I forgot to convert them to mp3 before I sent them, about 10 meg or so. I'll convert some more and send them asap. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

ok. i'll have to take care of the stuff tomorrow though. it's half past ten over here. just keep sending the stuff and i'll see what i can do.
