Ship upgrade - canons

Only a magic Corvette could mount 42 pounders. LOL :rofl

I'm curious and I found this magic Corvette :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Saratoga_%281814%29

In fact she get 42 pounders caronades instead of cannons. And I also found H.M.S. Victory gets two 68 pounders caronades. And don't forget what I do in my game is only for fun. ;)

No not magic Philippe, Just better technology from well after the age of piracy (1814). A carronade is not a cannon. They are much shorter and better casting technology allowed them to be smaller as well. Keep in mind also that the carronade was made for battering at close range, not bombarding forts with high arcing trajectories like the 92 pounder mortar. Also the 19th century saw everything get bigger. Frigates became more akin to 74 gun Razees or men-o-war and Corvettes got bigger too - in many ways becoming more like Frigates.

Believe me, I appreciate it's a game mate. I remind senior officers all the time that I can build them anything they want in simulations. So they need to be careful what they ask for within the bounds of reality. I can mount laser guns on flying submarines if I want to and make my aircraft fly under the ground and strafe tanks from below.

Real history is better than fiction in my opinion and I like to try to stay true to it. :onya
