I think, it could be possible, to STEEEEAL the vertexes of this wheel, and put it to ALL the ship models, (maybe dont need collision detection, the corvettes last mast didnt has any already)
except the little ships, and the ones that already have rudder poles. (okay, maybe not poles, but straight wooden things, what u can use to pull, push, and make the ship turn.... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> ) so, give the wheel to almost all the models, which need it. Imagine, what feeling could it have, to change view, and stand behind the wheel... For me it could be like heaven... SO! If anyone want to help me, and send me the exact name of that ship model, what had the wheel, it could be nice.
or, if someone knows better the ship modelling, ( hehe, im beginner ) just start to add the wheels, yippee! To the models. And send some infos how can I help with the rest. So? What do you think?

The other thing, is CHARACTER modelling 3d! I finally made a ... Kind a mod.

Hes a character, and I have some minor problem with him. I used Inez's tool, to change the head, and after that ( after 2 days experimenting with file conversions, and several lock ups...... ) I realized, if I first make the gm raise hands, then convert into wrl with the tool, then modify it in max, to erase the holes by grabbing, moving vertexes, THEN I export it to 3ds, and open it with milkshape, and from milkshape i save it wrl again, and i open it with the tool, hit 'raise hands' to make the model right next to the skeleton, then hit unbind, then bind, and, yet, I simply rename the model to Blaze_NB.gm ( because i purchased it my last save ) and in the game I wear the blaze_nb outfit,
its.... works somehow.

WHy i made it so complicated: If i simply convert gm to wrl then open with max 7 and export back wrl, the wrl file becomes 500kb, and the gm becomes 244kb, and when i load it, it shuts down the game after 30 seconds of gameplay.... I tried EVERY type of settings, in the export and import... Wont work.
I did read all the infor for the tool, but they wont work, maybe because I use max 7?
and the only way to work, (somehow stick to the bones finally, show original texture, and dont shut down the game, and produce some model, whitch dont kills the game's atmosfere in the first sight) is above...

My problems: please, download my gm, and use it somehow, ( I regurally exchange poor blaze_nb then wear it... ) and make an officer use it, to see it from front: the jaw and the lower part of the earring are... sticked to the neck, so the guy show... Interesting characteristics, when turn his head.

The other problem: after I used the new outfit: when i try to save: I can, but after the save the save window remains, only without icons, i can f1 then escape and go back to the game, and my saved game work properly, i can load it.

!!! A tricorner captain's hat !!!, a big bad scar, and an' earring. The first steps was based on Inez'S tool's head switch, but after that I made a brand new head out of the Corsair1 original, modified the body and the neck, and made textures too for the Blaze body, and for the head. I finished myself/him today, after two days work. (okay, my first mod <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> so thats why the lack of speed) It has all 3 portrait type now,
BUT. I use him INSTEAD of the Blaze_NB model, so
- pleeeease help me, how to politelly add him to the game, maybe to the tailor, or, better, like an NPC!! I dont want him to become officer <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> Because I already have a ship, thats enough for me, I dont want 'myself' to serve on other ships. Please, post some comments about him, If U like it, I can give him to the next version of post build mod. You must remember that first ships with steering wheels appeared in late XVIII century - on "Bounty" there were one and it was something very new back in those days. With the action in 1690 its presence would be not quite reallistic.

The "Late" 18th century? XVIII = 10 5 1 1 1.
The Ship's wheel was adapted in europe already back in 1705

in other words then about 15 years from where the game is set.

but that is an idea, what about having some time related objects or events? like for instance, have a ship in the game that might not be buyable or encounterd before 1700 for instance?
 
I like te steering wheel idea and it is a good charater dan, an nice character to play a role in a quest!! Or use it as yourone character.
 
The ship with the steering wheel is the LuggerVML in the RESOURCE\MODELS\Ships folder.

To add your character in the game as a new model, all you need to do is give the model file a different filename and give him an entry in Models\initModels.c. If you can't figure it out, send it to me and I'll do it. It shouldn't be too hard. For the talking head model, you need to add a h_Charactername.gm file to RESOURCE\Models\Heads. Easiest is to take an existing head file and change the texture name using a HEX Editor.

If you want him to replace a character in the game, choose which character you would like to replace and change the ch.model line in the proper Characters\init file.
 
why dont you make another version with white sleeves? this is a character that should have more outfits than one!

I do have one, mate <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> !!! If i change back the two texture names in the gm file via hex editor. Its uses his own: vlaze.tga and vorsair1.tga. But if i change it back to blaze.tga and corsair1.tga, we have some guy in Nathaniels starting clothes, who has a head like a burned-out seadog... (because of the head model modifications, he looks totally different, even with the original corsair1 face)
Its not bad, but I more prefer dark clothing, and young face, to match with The Wolf's crazy story, what i wrote. but if you prefer, i do add him to the tailors shop with nathaniel outfit, if Pieter like it too, and somehow i make the story ingame for the true Wolf model

Im working on 2 projects yet (besides of the real looking spyglasses)

the first: is to add THIS model, just with simple white sleeved basic blaze textures, and a new texture for face to the tailor, (I need to finish the 3 portrait) to be avaliable to anyone, (with some text like this: 'I prefer my usual look, just need a real captains hat, and a fancy earring')

the second: is to add the Wolf texturized model, as an NPC and maybe do a quest ? The NPC is sure, but maybe for walking around with funny dialog at the first time, until I finish retexturizing the ship, and learn how to modify dialogs later, and handle quests. IF someone CAN help me with this, please, do. (I mean, help to learn, not to do the work <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> )

P.S. Anyone interested in a parrot matey? I have a strange dream....

ideas:

1.: add to a ship's model. But then practically it wont be a parrot, just a coloured parrot statue.. .... Or a Parrot that frightened to stone by the cannons. ..

The blockade of this idea, that I dont know how to add additional textures to added polygons in 3ds max 7. .. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />

2.: Modify a character model ALOT! ANd make a life size, little parrot, floating in the air in head level by flapping his wings, avaliable as officer. But when U try to talk to him, hes just replyes random vulgarity.
ANd maybe add some animation when hes resting on the ground.

The block: I dont know how to re-make the skeleton, and animation (because i dont want a little parrot, whos running on the ground with a HUGE sword on hes side....)

3.: Would be best, to put the parrot into the inventory, and put him instead of a gun, and hes gonna be on the shoulder of the guy. BUT! If I can do it, just by totally move the 'guns' own stick point, so when hes wear the parrot, hes gonna sit on the shoulder, then, if a guy runs, the parrot start to move funny, wawing around the characters side in big circles, like a musket.......
Or, add a code, that moves the gun sticking point of the CHARACTER from the side, up to the shoulder, just for the time, when the parrot is present.... It could be the best, the last, but i dont know, if this point can be moved ingame via code. Because if I do this the parrot sticks to the right point in the shoulder, and no matter if his wawing around like a gun, because its really gonna look like the parrot try to get hold on the shoulder.
So, I really appreciate any idea. Maybe open a parrot topic once <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />
 
Personnaly if you can manage to this, i like the parrot officer solution, even if it uses an officer's slot <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
 
I think the best idea would be to add parrots ingame as items then allow them to be equipped. All character models will need a parrot locator added where the parrot will be added. If this is possible at all (maybe the showing of guns/blades on the character is hardcoded, which would complicate matters), it would be quite a lot of work.

I changed the resolution, thx Pieter, my ship now have a 2048x1024 texture, and dont even lagged the graphics!

By the way:
Ive managed to put wheel, compass, n' ship bell to the Wolf. Works perfectly ingame. I finally figured out the rituals for it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> (with haaard work, n' thousand aaaannoying errors....) to modify ships in 3dsmax 7 and put 'em (convert haard) back to ingame. So, the wolf have Ship wheel! Its a sctock corvette, but I plan to modify her even more. Lot more...
If you interested to get wheels to the other ships jut let me know. (I know its unrealistic, but what if I play in 1700's, not in 1650-80? You guys even add flags from that era sometimes.) I dont promise I do it myself, but let's think about that.

The main setback of adding extra stuff to lots of ships, is: If I go to a battle, where 6-8 ships on EACH side, My game lags haaard now, and those are just stock models, with simple textures... So lets discuss this. I just modify the Wolf, because I know, if i add it to the game its gonna be only an npc quest ship, maybe a player's ship, not usable by pirates, soldiers, or merchants ai, therefore its gonna be only ONE of it.

I think adding ship's wheels to ships would be a very nice idea, but it is not nescessary to do so. Maybe just add wheels to the ships players are bound to use more. NPC ships don't need to have them.
