ship wheel for every ship! + 3d modelling

Thanks, Pieter <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> Im still developing the ship with good results yet, And Im thinking about the parrot... I checked out: the pistol and saber models doesnt have any locators about the belt, so the only locators there are the gun locator and saber locator of a character.
However, in Inez's tool I can easily make another locator.

BUT! Then I need to declare a new item type as: PARROT.
I looked over the item files, where can i make it, without success....
or: in what other way can I assign for an item to what locator he needs to use in a character? Adding the shoulder locator is no problem. But the next step.... Can anybody give a hand???

The Wolf

Next postbuild News: Ah, the model. I finally put it together & sent it! Pieter told me, that the put it into next mod. Hes gonna be avaliable with white sleeves, purchasable at the tailor as a 'captain' model. For practical reasons I set him Portuguese, because it appears somehow the portugal models show up most of the time at all nations tailors. No need to worry though, hes only appears 1 times out of 6 try <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> but you can find him at least- there maybe also gonna be a more realistic spyglass look, if Pieter finds it worthy. I finished the Wolf npc's ship, (modified corvette model, with lots of details, and a new texture also) the character model itself, and I just need to make a story and a quest.

Well... Here it is! reskinned, and modelled a bit. But she's gonna be an NPC ship, thats for sure. Cant afford to let AI purchase, and use ships with this poly count on every corner. Can lag the machine as hell.
IF you guys Like the detailed deck&outer, I maybe consider to make a new texture and also make the model avaliable as 'purchasable only for player' ship via shipyard.

If you leave your eyes open, in the pics you may find a new little guy skin also.... Fit more for a buccaneer crew... In the case you like it, I send it to Pieter.

Here are some detailed pictures:

is it very hard to put those things on a stock game ship, i want to try it to, do you have any tips or tricks for it?

on the topic of modelling, does anyone know a good vrlm converter so i can get the model into milkshape 3d?

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

It doesn't look like it will tax the system much more than the Lugger VML but you are right.
It probably shouldn't be encountered / given to NPCs.

I might want to make the model the base for my Pirate Corvette.

I have no problem whatsoever with high poly models, encounterable or otherwise.

I think it should be as avaible to the AI as any other ship.

... And personally, i dont think one should focuse on those with low end systems,
no offence, but we with high end systems are going to want to really use it.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Ahh, snobbery on parade!
I'm glad you don't speak for the majority of modders who want this game to be enjoyed by the majority of players.

what is to say that the majority have weak systems, do you speak for the majority?

PoTC is several years old now, systems are getting more advanced, the number of players that can handle high detailed models in PoTC only increases.

I used to have a weak system, a graphic card that couldnt even handle the smoke of the post build, and had to run at below 1028x768 resolution in order to play PoTC without lag, One graphic card update is all it took, and it was cheap. now i run at 1280x1024 with the Surprise, and more than one of them (i can run 1600x1200 on stock potc)

Keep bragging, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" /> it's the hat you have chosen to wear!

well go off and play then on your 16mb card <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

It's a good old Build custom that no mod should be forced on anyone. Especially not if it it possibly spoils the game. That's why we have tons of tweaks and switches in Buildsettings.h <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

So why don't you make the detailed ships tweakable? Put a " #DEFINE HIGH_DETAIL_SHIPS 1" into buildsettings.h, then wrap every code that initialises the ship and registers it with the program into conditional brackets

If(HIGH_DETAIL_SHIPS == 1 )
{
shipcode
}

So everybody can choose whether those ships appear in his game, and there is no need for quarrelling anymore.

an acceptable compromise <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

That's some pretty boat! I say: RELEASE! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

The toggle should be fine for everybody. I do want to keep players with low end machines into account. We probably don't have too many players anyway; if we exclude people with low-end machines, we won't have many people playing left. And I want everybody to be able to play it who wants to play it.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> there,

Very nice work indeed, Captain Dan. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Looking forward to trying her out.

Cheers <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

p.s.

I agree with the first and look forward to the second.

Hmm... Low end? I dont think an AMD 2800+ 512 meg ddr and a 128 meg Geforce 5500 fx is too low end.... But, to put more info here: the stock ships use at least only 10% of polys, than the lugger VML or my ship... Only the cannons boost the poly count enough themselves. Smarties, imagine that: 10 lugger VML or a corvette like this, in a sea battle... Anyways, the good ol' realistic cannons smoke particle lags the game enough if its more than 10 ships onscreen, and firing.... SOme more info: the regular texture used by ships is 1024x512. My ship has 3 textures in 2048x1024... Imagine 10-15 ships with high poly AND more than one duplicated resolution textures.....

Again... Im not talkin' c**p with open eyes.

But anyways, really thanks for the support! Im thinking to put a regular texture, or a bit modified british navy corvette texture on, and make it avaliable on shipyard, to be purchasable, and 'commandeerable' for players only. The base Wolf model remains NPC quest ship. (If I manage to do an able quest...)

To Thomas The Terror: Read all the info posted on the 'tool to convert gm to wrl' topic, and find a link to the wiki about Inez's Tool.
To Merciless Mark: If you manage to convert gm into wrl, you can do anything with Milkshape.... I use Milkshape myself as a middle station between Inez's tool, and 3dsmax 7, so you only need to master Inez's tool, and then you can paste anything into the model with milkshape. But you need to test, and experiment alot.... Again:find the wiki about Inez's tool. Its link should be on the topic I mentioned above.

ol build 12 smoke yes, but if you use the latest post build that contains my far more realistic cannon FX beleive it or not at the same time it looks more realistic it also gives a lower FPS hit
