Shipmodels for the worldmap

well, the mapships seem to be fine, but that spanish galleon is way to much over the top for me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blink:" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> it's just to bloody big! seeing a spaniard attacking a portugese looks pretty funny. looks like a tartane vs. a manowar! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> the bigger size of the ships has created a small problem though: it's really hard to figure out how close you need to go to engage now. but that will pass.

...
The sizes of the ships in 3D Studio MAX are pretty much the same, but it seems to me that the Spanish ship is quite a bit larger than the other ones. I don't understand why, really... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wacko:" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

If they we all reduced in size by the same amount there would still be differences as the Galleon is bigger than the Brig.

Your screen shot doesn't show a Galleon and frigate together.

I'll take a look at these in game and let you know.

believe me, even for a galleon, it's way to big.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I think we have gotten too used to the toy maps ships being of equal size, and have forgotten that the ships in game are of different sizes.

Here are two in-game, 3-D, sea mode, views of a standard Frigate and Galleon.

Pieter, If your mod is going to AOP, fine, but I have to ask that you use stock or other skins, and not the skins/ship models I did for POTC.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I don't have AoP either and I don't intend to get it. I don't care one bit about AoP, except for the files we can hyjack. So I am not going to bother making my work AoP compatible at all. But if my work can be of use to the AoP modding community, they're free to use it. So that means they can use MY work on the mapships mod. However, seperate permission would be required for the reskins I've used from other people, such as you. Since you don't want your work in AoP, the AoP community will still be able to use my mapships, but if they're going to include it into a modpack of theirs, they'll have to replace the skins made by you. So that means they'll need to replace the Spanish, Portuguese and player ship skins. But that is relatively easy to do: Just replace the textures they use. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I deliberately DIDN'T resize them by the same amount in 3D Studio MAX. Instead I resized them so that they would all be just about the same size and also of similar size as the original toy ships. For some strange reason this change <i>did</i> take effect in 3D Studio MAX, but <i>not</i> in the ingame models. I do not know why. Perhaps I need to reset the X-Form. I'll try next time. I really do think the ships should be just about the same size.

petros, check out a portugese vs. a spaniard. then you'll see it just looks wierd. the strange thing is, the galleon looks a lot bigger at my worldmap in comparison to the frigate than on your screenshot.

i have noticed that the current size of the ships has had a rather wierd graphical effect: they can turn strangely fast! it looks like some of the ships can turn on the spot.

FOR THE SECOND TIME PETROS
I know you dont want it in AOP as mod, but i mean i want to put this in MY game not as MOD. So don`t worry, relax man! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

BTW: It could be that the mod already IS readily compatible with AoP, simply because both PotC and AoP work in the same way. If that is the case, there is nothing I can do to make it incompatible with AoP and compatible with PotC. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

If you make the mod available for PotC, can you please replace Petros' skins with some others? Should be easy enough for you, right? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

That is what you guys said about the Frigate and Galleon.

I just showed you that those are the sizes for the regular ships and not just the map ships.

I really don't have time for this, so someone else can take sea mode screen shots to see that the ships are actually of different sizes, as they always have been.

Great work, Pieter, adds a lot of atmosphere to the game !

Have you tried to resize them with Inez' tool ? I find that always very easy.

No, I didn't use Inez's tool. Two reasons: I can't compare the sizes and I don't know how to use it. If you can resize the boats to proper scale, please do so. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

I can resize them, but what would be the "proper scale" ? If you tell me something like:

Spanish Galleon: reduce to 60%

etc. you can consider the resizing done. (He, am I leaning a bit far out of the windoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo....)

hmm...that would be something i would say, actually. looks like the disease is spreading. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

The same as your original mapships, I'd say. Your ships seemed to have the right scale. And all ships just about the same size.

Well, mine were 30 to 50% smaller, so that they don't dwarf the islands and clog the map. But your wish is my command <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> : the resized mapships are on the FTP, in the ccc folder, file MapshipsRedux.zip.

Have a look at them if they have the size that you had in mind.

Thanks a lot CCC! I'll check them out. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Thanks a lot, CCC! This seems just right! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

BTW: I noticed that the collision detection on the player ship is correct. Did you do anything with that? I wonder if you could try to do the same on Kazeite's Black Pearl.
