Small Junk Tests

Well, here are my first two test renders of my small Junk. No details added yet, but figured I'd give you folks a look and see if you think I'm going the right direction.
She's sitting next to the stock sloop just for a size comparison. Remember, this is the SMALL Junk, and only the first in a set of about 5 or 6 new ships I'll be building for this set alone. (Have plans for a whole lot more than these, believe me you!)

Enjoy the first peek!!

You know, some closeups would be most helpful <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Zoom in a little, man! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Look'n Good Cap'n Drow, A ship fit fer a pirate I'd be think'n <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

Very nice start on that endeavour Cap'n Drow, looks good. Your getting me in the mood to mod this game ( besides just editing the files), lol.

By the way, was the 1.43 patch slated to come out today?

Meigger: Its going to be a small Chinese Junk. I'll be making 5 or 6 of them total. This is just my first run through with it.

Capt.Bligh: Thank you good sir. I love doing this kind of stuff. Sadly, I wasn't entirely happy with that result, so I'm in the process of completely reworking it, using more nurbs and curves rather than just poly's.

I should have new examples to show sometime tomorrow I'm hoping.

Kazeite: I'll have very nice closeups of the reworked version for you to hopefully drool over. **grins**

Cheers, Mates!

Cap'n_Drow: Thank you for response. I was just wondering if the (Chinese) Junks were going to be the ocean going type, or those designed just for inland waterways. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

um

Well, actually I was planning on building a pretty good range, from the small junk all the way up to a treasure Junk. Though I haven't decided if I am going to do the treasure Junk to full scale. Those suckers were supposedly about 400' long and about 150' wide, powered by 9 masts worth of Junk rigged sails.

Then there were Junks that covered a wide range in-between my small, which is a 29', 3 master. All the way up to vessels that rivalled europes largest MOW's.

But DAMN would that Treasure Junk be impressive to see running along out there. **grins**

Just a quick update, still working madly on the rebuild of the model. I'll have fresh pics of the ship up as soon as I've got it to a point where I'm actually satisfied with it. Thanks for the support and comments thus far.

you do realise,
the obvious,

that if you can get good junk models,
AOP could work on an entirely new expansion to the game
in the far east setting.

GG, this would be quite an achievement!!!

Well, here is the update. Still nowhere near done. But definitely getting somewhere.

Kazeite, I even included some nice close-ups for ya!

That's looking pretty good. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Yep, Have to agree with Pieter, looking good. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbs1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":2up" border="0" alt="thumbs1.gif" />

Thank you <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ty" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

So, hm... are those holes in the rudder and keel? Since those parts'll end up underwater, I don't think you should bother with such intricate details <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

And, putting sail locators is sure going to be the pain in the behind <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Nevertheless, it certainly looks good. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Kazeite: Yes, those are actually holes in the keel and rudder. The chinese actually did that, though the tech info I've found doesn't really explain why.

Again, this is still what I consider an early version of the model. Its nowhere near complete or ready to be added to the game.

I'll hopefully have the working model finished by the weekend, but no guarantees yet.

I'll also be doing version of this from this one, all the way up to huge fat treasure junks, with models all the way in size between them.

Cap'n Drow

For what its worth, the holes in the rudder (called lozenge holes) were for the purpose of making it easier to swing the rudder without much altering its directional function while moving. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Those crazy Chinese and their crazy contraptions! A hole in the rudder? Blasphemy! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

(Nevertheless, thanks for this bit of trivia <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> )
