Edit: (edits also made to trim down for easy reading)

Alright i have given the game a few months and it is time to close things up .

For a start the game is still priced at $54.99 USD

The Ravens Cry Website still says "Pre Order Now save 10%" and the last Update was Feb 28th alot of the issues i and alot of others touched on were never fixed with some people still complaining of the campaign being broken.

If you ever see it for $10 pick it up.

Just uhh oh.. dear me.

:rumgone

Good points :onya

- textures ,level design, characters and weather are kinda pretty.

- good frame rate <apparently other people have had bad frame rates>

New - Steam DRM encryption removed ,improves overall stability and performance

- umm... yeah sorry honestly thats it so far i know some people wont believe me and some might even love it theres allways a few heck even i want to like even love this game it has ships in it , that ticks my boxes but geee whiz.
:checklist

bad points :nogood

- Promised Features not delivered, mod tools were not made available and steam workshop was not integrated may 2 2015

- odd animations and cutscenes.

- ship animations in the water look bizare as if a galleon is a dinghy.

- sword fighting. (all of it , no relly i mean it AOP2 has better combat)

- ship battles. (all of it , its like ACBF but poorly polished)

- constant breaking of immersion

- constant out of place music.

- all voice sounds as if its in a cave far away. <fix in progress , turn down EAX in the meantime>

- profuse swearing by men on deck.. non stop modern day cuss words.

- walking around the environment can get your character hurt eg stepping off a curb.

-cant capture ships :nogood:nogood:nogood

- it might not say it but Ravens Cry is Early Access quality. **may 2/2015 at this point it seems this will not be changing**

Some screenshots!

That first screenshot confirms my suspicions about how "historically accurate" their ships are.
It looks like they've taken a mid-17th century hull and stuck late-18th century masts and rigging on it to make it fit in with the setting.
Are developers afraid to make a pirate game without a stereotypical "galleon", or something?

It's a shame to hear the rest of the game is just as shoddy, though. If it were at least mechanically strong, it might have made up for the visual errors.

I spent some time on steam last night reading and watching reviews. Most didn't mention crashes. I agree about the animations and cutscenes. Overall it might be better than AC4. Maybe.

Keep after it! :pirates

I am going to keep after it yes , i am busey with archeage this weekend because we are stoping another guild from building their castle but after that ill be right into ravens cry.

The game takes place in the 1720s

Other mistakes with the ships.
  • No spritsails
  • Missing standing rigging (main stay, gammoning shroud)
  • Missing and wrongly belayed running rigging (sheets, tacks, halyards)
  • Extremely cliché crow's nest (either all tops are basket styled or no one)
  • Too many jibs
  • Some ships don't have futtock shrouds
  • Gaff sails and gaff topsails on mizzen masts
  • Ships with a bonaventure mizzen mast and gaff sails (would be somehow acceptable if it'd be a lateen sail)

But the ships have a very nice detail. They got gun port lid spans. A very rare rigging item.

Here are some interessting and important thoughts I don't want to write again: http://www.piratesahoy.net/threads/ravens-cry-released.24660/#post-501452

So please write Topware and Reality Pump emails and ask for corrections! One mail maybe doesn't count but hundreds would count!

Sorry, but for my taste the game is not worth the money. Even AC Black Flag, which i also don´t like, looks and works better than that. I downloaded it, tried it and threw it away :thumbsdown2

The kinds of bugs and issues that I have seen mentioned so far, both here and on Steam, are things you would expect from an early access title. For the AAA title price they are asking, these are the kinds of things that should have been caught and fixed in early beta testing and should never have been seen by people paying full price for the game.

According to a post made by the Devs on Steam, the machines they are using are dual Xeon PCs with 24 logical cores. That is two physical CPUs with 6 cores, 12 threads each. If they actually used that configuration for development of the game, I can certainly understand why people using Quad cores are running in to performance issues.

No performance issues as such for me on an i7 2600 which is 4 cores , i wonder if they are going to start saying ravens cry is a benchmark game :rofl

Well at least somebody thinks the sea combat is good i hate to be impolite but i thought it was ******* **** >.> often there are no waves , you get totally stuck dead in the water or sunk in a matter of minutes and it just made it unbearable for me ive stopped playing and am back onto starbound and arheage now.

Honestly it looks like he played the first 30 mins and nothing else but i guess hes not counting on other people having played it.

Not to mention,

""I should add, I’m fighting my way through this interface using the 360 pad, because the game’s not giving me any choice. Have a pad plugged in and it’ll insist on it, and I’m not crawling around the back of my PC for this nonsense’s sake""

lazyness! xD that said at this point i'd rather do my tax returns than play this game :wp
Or any of these other games that are actually worth the time and money!

Holy hell, that review is awesome!

RPS is usually pretty accurate when it comes to reviews, and they certainly nailed this one! It really is a shame because this game had serious potential.

I actually rather enjoyed Pirates of Black Cove to a point, though some of the fantasy elements were a bit much, some quite silly and ruined a lot of the game for me.

Here are two video reviews:

I just can't deny the feeling that they saw black flag and then redesigned their entire concept to appeal to a broader audience... It's one of those games which you immediately forget once you finished them, not like the age of pirates titles.. I bet the the devs also do not allow modding but that's all just gut feeling, I do not own this game and won't...
