Spanish Military Pack

This is the first of the Spanish Lancers. My goal is to have these replace the conquistadores that function as Spanish soldiers as it is. While a cuirass was still found in heavy cavalry during the 18th century, armor wearing infantry had gone out of style as the 17th century progressed and firearms became more common.

WOW! I want some o' those! LOL. That is so cool man. Keep up the good work!

Here is a Spanish Lancer Captain. He would replace the current Conquistador Officer.

Alright, I'm going to start on the new Spanish Naval officers now.

JMV, very nice work! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> Love the medals and the fourragere - I know that's French, but I don't know the correct term for it in Spanish... The braid... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Hopefully this is what a proper Spanish Sea Captain looks like. My hand hurts from all this mouse clicking today. Provided I can move my hand, I'm going to put together a Lieutenant and Admiral tomorrow. As soon as I'm done with those two I'll package the 3 naval skins with the Lancers and try to upload it to the PA ftp site.

Nachinus, the hair isn't right for Caruccha, but I'll get it there.

*oh, I'm color blind so if any of you ever notice an odd colorization on any of these skins, please tell me so I can correct it.

Best,

JMV

Specialy the Captain looks awesome!!! Perfect!... and quite fast, impressive. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_praise.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="icon_praise.gif" />

Yeah it looks good. Does your skin do what I fear in the fact that the orginal (Corsair I think) the legs went through the back of the coat as he walks. Does your have that problem or did you get around it?

Just curious... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Cap'n Archibald McNil, I know what you are talking about. No, I didn't change anything with the model, so there is no reason for that to have changed either. However, since the Spanish wore a navy blue coat as well as navy blue breeches, perhaps it won't be quite as obvious that the legs are poking through the back of the coat since the color is the same. To be honest, I haven't tried the skin in the game yet. I'll do that now.

What about the Captain's face? He seems a little young to me, more suitable for a Lieutenant or a Commander. Your thoughts?

Interesting, except isnt that a gold trim along the edge? Oh well. Everything looks good, though you might think about making him look a bit...shall we say, used. As in he has been at sea a bit and may not look like he just got his new duds at the local tailor shop. Just an idea... And the sooner that ppl figure out how to change the models the better. The hat needs some serious work. It just does look right. Textures do...just the hat... TTYL!

Here are the completed skins for the Navy Officers.

Are the hats better now Captain McNil? Regarding the used versus clean suggestion... that is something I've thought about and decided against. Here is my thinking; while it is true he would have been away at sea, military regulations of the day were very strict about how a uniform should look. Captains had stewards to help clean their uniforms, and the other officers had to clean their uniforms themselves. While never as spotless as the marine detachments, Naval officers had surprisingly clean uniforms at sea.

The second, and perhaps more logistical reason for having clean uniforms. When at sea you can't see your player model except during boarding. Most of the time that you see the model is while walking around town. Even if you don't agree with my first reason, I think you can agree that military officer's would put on their best dress uniforms for walking around the town, meeting with the governor, visiting friends in the tavern... etc.

Alright, as soon as I figure out this FTP thing they will be up for download. I'll post an update here when they are ready to go.

Hey they look cool man. What I meant was that even the best kept clothes have some wear. But anyways, I was wondering if you could make me a skin... I would love to have an English Admiral kinda like yours with a younger appearance (Non gray beard). If you can that would be cool! Keep up the good work. You are awsome at what you do.

Slightly `off-topic`... What program are you using to view the texture on the model? I have something to view the model alone, but I have to fire up the game every time I want to see the skin on it.

All looks splendid... and you say these are accurate for the late 17th century, moreso than our current skins?

Not 17th Century. They are accurate reproductions of late 18th century.

The problem you speak of with viewing the models is familiar to me. When I made the Royal Navy Skins based on the eng_soldier models last winter I had to load the game each time too; very time consuming and inaccurate.

I don't know how I got the gm viewer to work. My computer underwent some problems since Winter and I had to wipe everything and start over, so perhaps something with my old configuration kept me from seeing the textures in the gm viewer. It works now, and pleased I am.

So pleased that I'm going to make new versions of the RN skins. They'll be better this time. I promise you that.
