seems too over-complicated for something like hireing crew to me. but that system would be the best.

LOL. I would actually WANT to make running a ship complicated. Right now it's just: Auto-hire crew and rations, go sailing and plundering, then auto-hire crew and rations again. Not very challenging in a "ship management" kind of way. I would like a system where managing your ship is actually challenging in and of itself. Running a small ship at the beginning of the game would be relatively easy, but running a Manowar would be really quite hard. This to counterbalance the naval superiority you have with such a ship. After all: Think of what a REAL captain must be able to do. I'd like to somewhat translate that into the game so that the player must actually show some REAL leadership abilities to run his ship, not just the number of the leadership skill.

i still has to remain fun though. having to take as many things into account as in a simulator greatly decreases the fun in my opinion, speaking from experience. i remember quite well how long it took before i got the hang of playing the stock game. going straight to the mods would make starting for a new player impossible. i found stepping over to build 12.1 from the stock game hard enough.

It does smack of "Micro managing"

What MoW captain is going to be counting heads and making sure there is enough silverware to go around?
For that we have Quarter Masters.

That is why the management issues would not be very important in the beginning of the game and as the game progresses and the player becomes more familiar with the game, the management issues will appear, adding a challenge to the game. Otherwise the game could become tremendously boring in the later stages. Upping the number of enemies, or their HP or their toughness could make the game more challening, but it would not be very varied. Therefore some challenges NOT consisting of enemies would be welcome at that point in the game as far as I'm concerned. That being said, of course there would be a toggle on the whole thing. Like usual with major gameplay-influencing mods. But ideally even beginning players would be able to cope with the management issues, because they gradually come into play, rather than being right there and complicated when the player is only still trying to get the hang of the game.

there should be a recommendation from malcom as to how much crew the player should hire for his ship then with an explanation.

So you decide that you want to hire 200 sailors for your ship and auto-hire will hire 200 sailors every time. Only this amount might or might not be good, so if the player is not satisfied with the ship's performance, he can change this set amount. It's basically the captain giving his standing orders. These orders might be good or they might be bad, but they <i>are</i> standing. So you won't have to go through the same motions over and over again. You can just amend your standing orders when you're not satisfied with them anymore.

Actually, I would like a mod where things like auto hire and auto trade are only available if you have an officer. With a toggle, naturally. But that would simulate actualy giving the officers a REAL job to do.

I think it would be fun if the player could actually ask his officers for help on various aspects of managing his ship if he is in doubt about something. Also: For each ship, a default "auto hire" amount should be defined, which is an adequate number, though perhaps not perfect. So if the player does not amend his desired crew amount,t he ship will function and he would be able to play the game without caring about it. However, he could increase the efficiency by experimenting with various amounts and trying to find a better amount. This means that player don't NEED to do the management things, but if they do, they can acchieve better efficiency.

You can make them on the PotC CotBP DVD when you put it in your computer.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Is it, like, possible to get this program without having that PotC DVD? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

i don't think so. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> i'm not even sure you can get it off the DVD as a seperate program. but there's always a chance it's available from some PotC site, of course.

Does anyone know the difference between normal lo_man and the kamzol versions? Are they just a different model? Or are the kamzol versions used in different instances. For example: normal lo_man for the player and kamzol for other ships? Or something like that?

I believe they are used randomly on all ships.

The Lo_man have short vests and the Kamzol, have the longer ones.

Ok. Thank you! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

That is exactly what I have been dreaming of all the time! (well, lots of other stuff too..)
