Start New Game Choice Selection

Like I said, the list will never be agreed upon, so I am not going to bash my brains over this to get it last minute for pieters demanded weekend release. Deal with it for build 13.1 or later, whats there now is fine, and works, and has graphics (albeit sucky ones).

Yeah thats what i was suggesting....didnt mean to do it all in how long we got?(48hrs??) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Build13 "for all men and women" can wait a little - its not hugely important, just nice.

Can anyone tell me what the files are called that hold the info for these screenshots i'm after? I just need to compare and measure them up to get it correct for the new models?

50_Becka is the one you want. The tailor says "Here is a governor's daughter, who wants to go to sea."

.......
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

thanks Petros - that was the one i was after and i've editied that list.

I think i should just add that none on the possibly 'wider representative' list of char choices are ones i would actualy choose myself, at game start.
I always add 33_Ronald manualy(as he seems impossible to get in Oxbay) - which i'm happy to keep on doing, later i look for the "I remember jack sparrow when he sailed under a dutch flag"(rich green colour) char model as an officer then take over that one as my main character of choice. Ronald then becomes a 'tough'.

Just so its clear, i havent seemingly picked a bunch of my personal favourites. The whole idea was to get a better spread that would cover as many different players(especialy new ones who might not know how to add their own) tastes as possible?

Anyway once i know where the graphics are i need change/add, so i can look at the format etc - then i'll have a go myself <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Actually, the ones initially chosen should all have the ability to 'show armor'. But then we are talking a lot more skinning and textures and graphics for each one of those characters. Then of course when someone buys a new suit at the tailor that doesnt have armor varients, then they are back to having a character not showing any armor. So then it means 'every' tailor selectable character skin in the game needs armor varients LOL.

Lovely endless loop of graphical needs. Hmm, Build 14, 700mb... yeah <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

For the images that you need for the choose_character.c interface, they are located in /RESOURCE/Textures/INTERFACES/BACKGROUND/, each required file is named the same as the character model. Obviously. Napitan is already there, so is a couple of the other girls, but not mongol, or the black lady with the 70's AFRO.

ok cheers <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

we dont really need armour for everyone do we? I never worry about it personaly, but i made sure the list does have some armoured chars(mostly male - but one female) - so that covers those bases also.

Oh and that Afro is actualy the natural hair shape for all people of African background(papua-new-guniean also, which anthropologicaly speaking is interesting) if they dont cut their hair. So its way older than 1970 disco fashion <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

and cool if Napitan is already done - i'll swap him for Corsair1_3 in the list.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> yeah he is good to 'soften up' the enemy - "Arh! whos that dangerous looking monster coming my way! - runaway!" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Is it my imagination or does his model do 'odd' things every now and them?(weird little graphical things like become a weird red shape for a half second) It might just be something that can happen with any char due to the engine? and its is rare so not an issue really.

CCC(anyone), umm how do i:

"1. Put the command locCameraFree(); into console.c" - exactly? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I put 'locCameraFree();' near the top of that file - but it didnt do anything.....so i'm stuck on the command to make it work in the code?

otherwise i have all those three chars that dont have the background ready(33_Affrica/Mongol/50_India) - took me about three hours just to get them all yesterday - darn tailors/tavern in Oxbay!

This is why I wanted to redo them all, as those ones there are aweful. Stiff figured, look like dress up dolls on a bad perspective drawing of a cabin. No offense to whomever did those. They are bad.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I agree they don't look perfect, but at least they're functional. Would be nice to replace them with improved versions though. The easiest way to make these pictures ingame, I think, is to hire an officer and assign the skin to the officer. Also: If you enable <i>int DEBUG</i> in globals.c, you will have ALL skins in the game in your F2>Assign skin to character selection screen, so you won't have to go through a lot of trouble to get the from the tailor's shops. You can then go to your ship's cabin to make the pictures.

Just for kicks, I ran through all the character models and came up with my own list of a good selection that is *diverse* :roll eyes:
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Seems like a good selection to me. We could add some additional characters without much trouble (just change the choose_character.c interface file), so I would like it if we could go with this selection instead of the current one. If we don't manage it this weekend, I am not going to let this delay Build 13 further. We can always include this into Build 13.1. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

<!--quoteo(post=171971:date=Nov 17 2006, 12:10 AM:name=Kazeite)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Kazeite @ Nov 17 2006, 12:10 AM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->
Personally, I prefer my Beatrice wearing less... revealing cloathes, like her coat. But that's just me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Actually: I wholeheartedly agree with that. I had intended to use the version with the coat as starting selection, but a couple of days ago I noticed that I actually added the other version, which was not my intention, so I'll have that one replaced in the final Build 13. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

For some characters, you need to visit other nation's tailors. For example: Most of Petros' skins are available from Spanish tailors instead of English ones.

For getting the skins, it was easy the way I did it. I just changed the selecting models for a new game to what they will be, then started a new game with each one, hit f12 to detach my camera, then flew around till I saw a good shot to take of the player. Hit f8, rinse, repeat.

In console.c:

The top should look like this:

<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->void ExecuteConsole()
{

locCameraFree();

return;

... then all that other crap below that 'return' line
<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->

Somehow I get the feeling you don't actually believe me. Strangely enough, it <i>is</i> true. I had already changed it last Thursday. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

Well i knew i could get all these chars from game start - as i've seen them before. Anyway i've added the models in that list of 12 i came up with to my game and chose 50_India as my player char as she is the most difficult to find in Oxbay(although you can sometimes pick her up as an officer).

Then i just hired the first two officers i came across - after about 5mins in the tailors i got the "hook" one, then spent another 30mins to get the 33_Africa skin.

Chinaman(mongol) was a real pain - which he isnt normaly, as i said i usualy pick him up during my collection of 8-10 officers in Oxbay at game start.
This time it took 2hrs 48mins of visits to the tailors and running in and out the Tavern. eventualy i got him in the Tavern <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

So job done i got them all and will now learn what is needed to get those char selection shots - once we're happy they are ok - i will offer up requests to people here, so if they have a personal fav char that doesn't have the right pics i'll do it for them and stick it on the ftp? - well if its not a total nightmare to do that is <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

@hat,

thanks for the correct placement of that code - and your method sounds much smarter than mine! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
