the more times I played CoAS, the more I get annoyed by the way the the sun is moving across the sky. Especially the sunset is a joke, as the sky starts darkening at about 18.00 when the sun itself is perfectly visible, high in the sky (more like during noon or the afternoon) and is not to set until about 21.30. Afterall the caribbean is at 15+- 5 degrees north, so the sun should more or less set at 18.00 during the whole year. Also the sky colors look totally off when the sun is shining and the sky is dark at 21.00, while the real sunset colors are at ~19.00.
Can we do something about this?
I already fiddled with the sun.heightangle variables in the weather init files (and started a new game to test it of course), but it does not seem to work... Also there is a function to get the sun angles based on the current time, which does not seem to be called in other files...
That's really annoying, I want to change it and there seems to be no way, please help...

I've has time's at night were theres been a black square instead of the moon but I've never taken much notice of the sun

sounds like a texturing problem to me...
do you have all tga.tx files in place? there is a folder in 'resource' (i don't know correctly and cannot check right now, maybe it's 'weather' or some subfolder of that) where the sun and the moon texture should be.

any idea about the positions?

Yeah that bugged the hell out of me too. I just copied everything from hour 20 below the hour and overwrote everything below hour 21. It made it alot smoother.

There is a way to make changes to the sun and moon locations. I know that Maturin did a not of work on that for the build mod a last year and early this year.

Take a look at Maturin's files on the FTP and you should find a lot of interesting stuff dealing with sun position and motion as well as moon motion and position.

Another thing he worked on extensively was updating the weather system, especially for the direct sail mod that was developed for the build mod.

Have a look at each of these mods. I intend to try to get each of them incorporated as soon as I have time if no one else beats me to it.
