Sunset/sunrise in PotC

Ahoy there.

Recently I've been looking at the weather files, in PROGRAM/Weather/init. There was something I suspected I wanted to check out : the sunset hour. Because playing the game it appears you have a brillant red sky until nearly 22h (and I would have rather expected something around 18h for sunset). Apparently that's indeed 22h in the code : 'night' min hour & 'evening' max hour are 22h. Shouldn't we change that?

I've found those values on internet that could be usefull, for <a href="http://www.gaisma.com/en/location/oranjestad-aw.html" target="_blank">Aruba</a> (in the south) and <a href="http://www.gaisma.com/en/location/havanna.html" target="_blank">Cuba</a> (in the north), that should cover the whole Carribean.

So, what do you think? I know that it's berely noticable ingame as the character doesn't walk with a watch at his hand. But shouldn't we do something about it?

I would because It adds more realism but people really wouldn't notice it while playing. Its all up to you SVS <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

I always have the game clock visible, so I for one would probably notice it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

For the sake of accuracy it should be changed. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

i would notice aswell.....

by the way, how do i enable the watch to be displayed in my screen? i never did it before and only today i learnt that it could be done.

The setting is in the BuildSettings.h file in the main PoTC directory.

The setting is under the "Logs, Looks & Effects" section, and looks like this:

<div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain' style='height:200px;white-space:pre;overflow:auto'>#define DISPLAY_SEA_TIME 1
// Show a clock in the upper left corner of the screen when in 3D sailing mode
// 0: Only if you have a clock equipped
// 1: Always show the clock</div>

I was wrong about being able to always see the time - I forgot it's not visible when on land. The 1 is what I changed it to - it starts out as 0 after a fresh install of the Build (in this case, 14 Alpha 6 Update 2).

well, i always thought it started to get dark awfully early. it's only truly light for a fairly short time.

I suppose it doesn't hurt to change it, apart from the fact that I absolutely HATE sailing in the dark, because I don't see a thing. Usually when I see it's dark or foggy, I'll just return to the worldmap and wait until I DO have normal visibility. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

I do believe Morgan is used to being in the dark.  <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Yes, I do have problem with the dark places when playing PotC... When sailing at night I have to turn off all light in the room and close all windows.

What would be a good addition to CCC direct sail is the ability to just enter your cabin and put your character at sleep or something like that, while you put an officer in charge of the ship and tell him the direction/destination you want to sail to. Then you would wake up at morning - or before if the officer was a dummy and the ship have hitten a reef, or if ennemy ships have been sighted. The game would calculate how much distance you'd have settled during your sleep. And that way we could avoid the night part if we want to.
I don't know how such a thing could be coded thought, I'm not very familiar with CCC's direct sail code...

That would be an excellent Idea.

Thats a great idea! Nothing more realistic than having some rest during sail and let another one to be in charge of the trip.

Indeed. It would also save the player the trouble of watching his ship sail for hours and hours without anything happening. I very much like this idea as well. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

indeed. but the player should be warned if the ship meets a mine, log, or fleet, so he can decide what to do. of course, there might be a chance he isn't woke up, but that would be more annoying than realistic.

Maybe that could mean the feller you put in charge is passed out drunk somewhere, and nobody's actually controlling the ship? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Then, you could end up in some randomized port, or sail straight into some floatsam or an enemy fleet  <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Jikes. That DOES make things annoying. Could possibly tie in to the officer personality mod that we would hopefully one day be able to make. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

i think i'd then rather steer my ship myself and avoid the calamities, thank you very much. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> i'm having enough troubles with mines and ships that don't steer at all already.

LOL. I can quite understand. Really if you have an officer who can't bring a ship from port to port, he ought to be fired! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boom.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":boom" border="0" alt="boom.gif" />
