Actually they were, all larger ships had bow and stern chasers, some had 8-10 stern chasers, and 4-6 bowchasers, but 2 and 2 were more common. Yeah, this is my <i>Pearl</i>, only with innacurate main cabin added. You can see it through the windows now.

I'm sorry to criticize someone like that, but this cabin not only is movie-innacurate, it is also poly intense, and quite crudely added. Look at the second picture from the top, <b>Mercer</b> - you can actually see part of the cabin sticking out from the leftmost window cutout. And if you look at this cabin ingame, you can see that the carpet is incorrectly stretched (someone apparently didn't notice they selected one corner of the carpet when he was modyfying cabin walls).
 
All right, it's time for some update, wouldn't you say?

For the past week I have been working on my <i>Pearl</i>, retouching her here and there, before I start long and prolonged battle with Maya, and this is the result (with mockup sails):

I've based everything on <i>Black Pearl</i> blueprints and screenshot from DMC (the one where Jack is shown rowing away from the ship), and they line up reasonably well, so, as far as I can tell, this sail plan is pretty accurate.

Our Russian friends actually <a href="http://forum.bestgamer.ru/showthread.php?t=984" target="_blank">made a tutorial for exporting objects from Maya</a>, and although it's in russian, it happens to have pictures, so I hope I can make it work.
 
Nice. What modifications did you make to the model? Did you manage to put the version with the cabin into the game yet?
 
and the ropes and ratlines get added later, right? i think this is the best version so far, as usual.

are there any more pictures of the black pearl model?
on how it looks as it is now?

I found out that the black pearl looks closed to this one:

I also have 3dsmax 9, how can I open models in that?
is there a tool to open .gm in 3ds max?
or to convert them to obj or 3ds?

And about the low poly stuff?
I think you are capped because of the autospace 128 when starting up the engine?
Maybe this can be raised to 256? Or is this hard coded?

The model I saw from the russian forum (?) is too low in the water and the end of the boat should be higher up:
 
I added the picture whioch resembles the pearl closed so maybe you can look that one up and take examples if you need them if the movie dont show enough stuff??

I love you pearl model as it looks tough.
(The amount of guns is correct right?)

I count the russian flying dutchman models guns, and I looked it up on the internet,
it appears that the flying dutchman had 40 cannons, including 2 triple barrel guns.
Maybe a recount for the model?

Need any help with the cabins?
 
actually, that ship you posted doesn't look like the black pearl in the slightest, except maybe the gallery. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
 
Oh boy.

Well, as of right now, the only thing I'd like to add to the <i>Pearl</i> are maybe more detailed figures. Apart from that, I don't think she needs more detailing. I've already gone above reasonable limit, but, hey, it's the <i>Black Pearl</i> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

And I was working from <i>Black Pearl</i> partial blueprints any many reference photos (you'd be surprised how many of these can be found on Flickr, for example), so, I think it's pretty acurate.

You can't open .gm in 3DMax - you need to convert it, using either GM Viewer (can convert to .obj) or TOOL (can convert to VRML)

I think the Black Pearl's level of detail is pretty much as good as it'll get. Now the Flying Dutchman on the other hand needs some work still. She's already much better than she was and Razor is trying to get the stern to look better, but any help is always appreciated. Be sure to check out the FilmShips mod on the PotC Files FTP. It contains the Flying Dutchman, Black Pearl and Wicked Wench.

the surprise has a lot of work to do yet as well. that ship could be amazing. I have plans for the deck so if anyone wants to take a wack at her, they can see right where the wheel goes, the anchors go, where the boats go etc. and actually the ships main deck could also be made so ya can go down onto it, and then they could actually make the great cabin, the coach and the captain's sleeping cabin wich are on that deck as well, and they could make the windows see through like they've done on the pearl and on the bermuda sloop. and if anybody is REALLY good and has TONS of time on their hands, (highly unlikely) I got the plans for all the decks.

one thing that definately does need to be done for 148 though, is that ya need to move the flag on it. right now where it's located it clips 75% of the time, kinda sucky for screenshots.

oh the lugger vml could due with a new coat of paint and a retexture as well >.> (I know, so easy for me to say)

We now officially have a ship without bow chasers in the game: The Endeavour. I am wondering if the Endeavour should be given bow and stern chasers as well. Or perhaps we could simply put some ships without bow and stern chasers in the game, in which case we could, in theory, remove the chasers from the Black Pearl. It's just a random idea. I have NO idea if it's a good or a bad one. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
 
one thing i noticed from watching the endeavour in the movie is that the in-game one is too narrow at the top, seen from the stern. it's far more square and has rounded corners.
 
I am totally in love with your pearl, however i have to say i think it would look cooler if it was all black. Black as in masts and deck

This is a fantastic model, I have a couple of questions
1.can it be used in build 13 full of POTC?
2.where can I get it?
3. can you go up the stairs to the bridge, on the model included in build 13 you can't go up the stairs?
 
The model included in Build 13 was an earlier version of the same model that had a bugged walk file for the deck. This has since been fixed. You can take the MODEL and Textures files from the <a href="http://pafiles.com/potc/FilmShips.zip" target="_blank">FilmShips</a> mod and stick them in Build 13 to use the better version in there. However, the Black Pearl in the FilmShips mod is not the most recent one either; an improved Black Pearl 2.1 is available from Kazeite's folder on the <a href="http://pafiles.com/potc" target="_blank">Files FTP</a>. The most recent version of the Black Pearl with the modeled ropes and such has not been released yet.
