The Future of PotC Modding

ANd If you talk about banning, why the heck are YOU use words n' gestures that unwelcome on the whole net?

Besides, PM's mean private messages, told you im not gonna talk to-or-about you in THIS forum. Please respect this.
Thank you.

But If you prefer, just simply leave me alone.
And criticising a game can be done in a good place, not on a modding technical forum.

And at last: I dont want to talk to someone who want to critic, but dont care about what people reply about the game, just make more n' more critics.
SO please, anything you want, end this conversation HERE. You find my MSN address in my profil.
That was my last post regarded to you.

I really hope, that this was the last about this.
We can continue anything FAR from this place.

Thank you

If you ready to quit this conversation between us, and laughing on modders, Im really looking forward to not say anything to-or-about you anymore.

Besides, I begged you thousand times, to continue-or-quit this in another media,

Which you left unnoticed.

I really do hope that such voice is ended in this forum.
Productive, yes, that was the right word.

I think all of this gentlemen earned to talk only about modding here.
But im gonna be really happy, if we could free them from such arguing between us.

If you be that kind, and quit this here, so do I, we could simply coexistent peacefully.

I hope this time I say it with reason:

Thank you for your cooperation.

ok

but you stay a hypocrite to me, very "pro" last reply mate! on PM or the forum you have 2 personallity's, and all that for a newb on this forum..

makes me wonder, jeh I can be hard, but I'm not acting like some other pee on the net, you should do the same, altought.. nevermind, you be kicked than in 2 minutes <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I rest my case

Yes, maybe a hypocrite I am. But remember, when Jack said: '-Pirate' So, can I expect, what is really good for me, to dig this argument forever?
Temper could lit shortly sometimes, (admit, for me its even easyer) but Im sure both of our personalities based on keeping peace.
And im not kidding.
Before many years was my last true argument with anybody.

As for me, I want to continue mod here. So all act that could lead to any kind of restrictment could REALLY block me. I admit that. But personally, I dont like long arguments anyway. cant afford to have people walking around with bad thoughts about me.

And If you interested in AOP modding, told you, we can met in a soonly created AOP modder forum. If Im gonna have time for that too.

So, shake hands, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> if you will, if not, just agree, and both continue existence.

Children...

Lets discuss here only a future for Build PotC mod, without any deliberations if it's better than AoP or not - everyone have right for his/her own point of view, but shouldn't agresively thrust that opinion down others throat. If somebody prefers PotC over AoP or vice versa, it's good for him/her. However, criticizing someone's preference is unfair.

Can we please end this right here? No more posts on the subject in any thread and, if possible, no hate PMs either. I wish Jopieseethoek the best of fun with Age of Pirates. And I hope Captain 'Dan the Lunatic Wolf' will happily help us with our Build mod for time to come. Let's all just act like friends, please. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

I am going to ask Keith to remove a whole bunch of posts here. Or maybe he can give me moderator rights and I will remove them myself.

BTW: I find the characters in AoP to look cartoonish. If you've seen Blaze and Beatrice, you'll surely see what I mean. I haven't paid much attention to the ships of AoP; they might indeed be better that PotC's. We are trying to improve our PotC ships though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Totally agree with that. Those posts not ment to be here, and im in shame that we cant ended it mutch more earlyer.

Anger is one thing, but I never did hurt anyone phisycal. (except regular training injuries)

But its over, and however, I see Jopieseethoek agrees to close it.

And I really looking forward what could you, me, or anyone can do with AOP modding also.

But for now, the only thing we can deeply mod is this game, and far more work lies within. Making this to a next generation could create completely new things.

OK Guys,I deleted some posts.lets play nice fellas,no more bad mouthing each other PM and otherwise, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Thanks, Skull. Let's put this all behind us and continue with what we are here for: PotC modding! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

Does anyone know where the bump maps are stored? I wouldn't object to the bumps being improved a bit. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I certainly agree that we shouldn't be turning on each other. I do see Lunatic's point about saying basketball is a better game than soccer (!!! Really, THEM'S fightin' words) in a soccer forum. If you want to continue modding (note I didn't say boycott AoP or only play AoP) POTC, then I think that POTC can be truly fantastic. The full potential of the game really has still not been realised, though the mods done are tremendous improvements.

We definitely need to work together, though, to continue to accomplish what we've set out to do. I embarrassingly admit to buying and playing (a few times, anyway) Sid Meier's Pirates! but I still come back to POTC because it offers something quite different and I'm sure most of us will be the same way with AoP, particularly if there aren't as many opportunities to mod it.

Remember, most pirates were democratic social units, and that is really part of what makes POTC so special as well: it's this community who are taking the game where we collectively want it to go. That's really quite rare in the gaming world, I think.

BTW, soccer/football is far, far better than basketball. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

Isn't it amazing how easily emotions can flare up on the net ? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

Well, from NK enough help for me would be just to write an small resume of the internals of POTC and the main rutines-files (how differentes thinks work - i.e how works the transition btwin map and 3d, how it's calculated the behavior of AI, how is created a fantom, etc...), and a couple of questions about coding (i.e is it possible to add a variable to an object - as could be "lasttimesailraised" to mchref?... )
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Well, Nathan once started sort of a resumee about PotC code. What he completed is in Buildinfo\keywords.c. Writing something about all aspects of PotC modding would be too time consuming for me, sorry, but I'm familiar enough with the code to answer most basic questions(if they are short and specific, no "how do I create a new island" please).
Let's do that in the sticky "PotC C" thread above. I moved your questions there.

Though I hit my first limitation right away: can't help you with bumps (after all, I'm a married man <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> )
Something connected with waves, right? Mithrandir was the expert for that.

*NathanKell pops his nose, then head, out of a hole.

Hi folks. I'm afraid I'm a great deal busier now than I was, so I can't follow things, or contribute, the way I used to. But I'll now try to keep somewhat apprised of things, and help if you folks get stuck (though of course I can't guarantee my not being stuck either <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />).

I also want to say, hurrah for and thanks to the fine folk here who've kept the build and its spirit alive and well!
(And thanks to Pieter and CCC for not giving up on me, and dropping a line. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> )

Hello all. I am getting some really silly ideas lately, but it would be sillier not to post them.

Why don´t we try to match or inprove the features of AOP in "our" PotC game, I suggest adding the town management thing or a better seamap, rearanging the islands like in the real caribbean, the ones in the current build are ok, but they are kind of rotated torwards the east, also working with new configurable locations on those new islands, maybe is possible to import the AOP map?????

I also have 3 related questions:
1. How can I create a new collision model for an island, fort, ship?
2. Can the PotC seamap be expanded?
3. How can I create good looking COL files?

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Nathan.

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I'm not the map expert (Screwface should know more), but the seamap is one big model (models\worldmap\islands.gm), so to expand the map you'd have to make a new version of that model. After that you would probably have to change the coordinates of islands, towns, beaches etc in islands_init, worldmap_init etc.

so theoretically, you could make the entire world to sail in.

Now that would be a big accomplishment. I wonder if we will ever see the early United States. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

Why to restrict ourselves only to US? Let's we put map for whole world, so I could sail into Gdansk harbour! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />
