The House of Mateus Santos Redux

good, i'll get to conceciao soon enough. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

Pulling this back up in response to a message by morgan terror about bugs;

1. Bricenos attacks immediatley when you accept Santos mission, rather than allowing dialog to occur

2. Timer ends the mission prematurely

3. "Fight message" in Santos House, but dialog is enabled.

Compare the Build 14 file with my originals....

Anyone else having problems with this part of the game let me know....

For all I know the Build 14 Alpha code should be the same as your code. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Thanks Pieter, having taken a look at it, I'd say it is pretty much.

<i>Reposting from the other thread:</i>

I did a quick side by side of my old questreaction.c and the one from Build 14, and didn't see anything new or unusual except notations, "TrackQuestMovie", that I don't know what they are, or do, but can't think why it would cause problems.

Is anyone else playing with Build 14? If you are, and morgan terror as well, if you can start a new game just to test the Santos Quest, set your level to 30 or so and give yourself a good sword and pistol, just to hit all the marks and see if the error occurs consistently. I'm in the process of downloading the full Build 13, to which I'll then add the Build 14 files, but in the meantime if others could try it, I'd appreciate it.

He means that you need that to be able to play the quest. Otherwise you'll probably get killed. Another option would be to enable the Godmode.

True, but this is "testing" not playing. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> I got into the habit, during testing the changes I had made to this quest, of setting the PC to Level 30, and giving him good weapons, so I could make it thru the quest, i.e. "hit all the marks", without having to worry too much about having to save the game. Likewise, making changes to questreaction.c often required that you start a new game anyway, to see if you had fixed the problem.

I also put it to 30 because then you can assign yourself most of the skills, and you don't have to waste too much time while you are trying to get to the quest locations.

One more thing, I would also turn off the videos, I think a lot of Keira Knightly, but you can only hear that story so many times.... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

The whole point of the testing is to identify the errors that occur consistenly, so you can make an adjustment that fixes them.

Godmode is a good suggestion as well, but I haven't ever tried using it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

With godmode you can't take any damage at all, even if you do nothing. You can only get killed in special events, such as grenade usage, getting hurt when opening chests and enemies fighting with their fists.

I still haven't tried it! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> I might start to like it! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/slap.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":slap" border="0" alt="slap.gif" /> Also sounds a little like Fred Bob's "Quaker-Style" Exploit! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Ok....

Morgan, I've tested the Santos Quest two times with the latest version of Build 14 Alpha, and I cannot recreate the errors that you got; 1) Bricenos talked with me before I killed him, 2) none of the quests "timed out" prematurely, and 3) there was never a "fight signal", the flashing red light, while I was in Santos office. I don't know why you are getting the bugs that you are, and I can't recommend a fix for them. Have you tried testing or playing the quest since you reported those bugs? Does this happen every time? Has anyone else encountered these? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

While playing the quest I did run across two things that we're not working as intended in the Santos Quest:
1. Sound files not working; when you talk to people their sound file doesn't play. Looked at;

Pirates of the Carribean\RESOURCE\Sounds\VOICE

and found all the sound files and a folder labeled RUSSIAN, with the Russian sound files in it. I then created a new file labeled ENGLISH, and put all the sound files into it; (not the file labeled RUSSIAN) problem solved, the game can find the files now and the people talk.

2. For some reason Vito Leone does not disappear at the conclusion of your last discussion with him. Vito is supposed to leave the building when you are done talking to him, but he just walks to the door and then stands around. When the quest is completely finished, i.e. after you leave the building, he disappears and is not there later. Fixing this strikes me as being more trouble than it is worth because it doesn't create any real problems, but I find it annoying. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Outside of the Santos Quest, playing the game I had a number of CTD's, (mostly going into map mode) but I'm inclined to blame the computer I was playing on more than the game for this. I'll list the other things I noticed and if any are new I'll add them to the Bug Tracker.

1. My pistol reloads whenever I enter a new area. Can be annoying if people are trying to kill me, and I think it may contribute to CTD's.

2. My starting Lugger had no sails visible. The ship still responded as if it had sails, but they were never visible. All the other ships I encountered had visible sails.

3. In Buildsettings.h, I turned off the video with Keira Knightly describing the capture of Oxbay by the French, but it played anyway.

4. The skiff and it's crew had no texture file. I gave up using the skiff altogether, and just fast traveled to the deck of my ship, because using the skiff usually brought on a CTD.

5. Really strange occurrence; I went to the Conceicao merchant outside the fort gate to unload some items and found myself transported to Isla Muelle Port. This was problematic because my ship was still in Conceicao Port, and short of buying another ship, I couldn't get back. Most strange… <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" />

Overall, Build 14 alpha is a lot of fun to play with, and shows a lot of improvement since Post Build 12 base version, which is the last version I tried. The bug-fixers really deserve a hearty round of applause for their efforts, and I'm just glad to feel that I haven't created more work for them with my additions.

well, my quest reactions file, if it has anything to do with it, is known to be a bit dodgy. maybe that's the problem. i'll see if it happens again.

It's not an exploit or a bug, it's a full-blown cheat. Enable the cheatmode in BuildSettings.h and press Numpad 0 to enable the godmode. I personally find it very useful for testing.

Running RunMe.bat should fix this I think.

It has been found that that happens when you have the ammomod off. Try turning it on and see if it still happens.

Sounds like some missing texture files to me. Have you installed Build 13 before installing Build 14 Alpha? If not, you're probably missing more textures than just those. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I think the PLAY_INVASION_MOVIE setting only takes effect if you DON'T start the game with the tutorial. You can choose a starting location in the Choose Character screen and this toggle probably changes if the movie plays if you choose a different location than Tutorial Deck.

That is completely crazy. But in case this happens again, add a line like this to console.c, then press F12:
SetCharacterShipLocation(pchar, "Muelle_port");
That will move your ship to the port of Isla Muelle so that you can continue again.

Wow this quest sounds great! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

I'm going to go and try it now.

which build version are you using? if you are using build 14 alpha 5, try checking the bugs reported here.

oh: i also noticed that i never got a reputation penalty.

#define ENABLE_VIDEOS 0 in internal_settings.h should disable all videos. And if nothing helps: renaming the moviefile should silence Keira for good.

CCC, I think my computer figured out that <u><i>secretly</i></u> I wanted to hear Kiera's voiceover for the attack on Oxbay video. <i>(She never responds to my letters though....)</i> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Morgan, I'm using the most recent Build 14 update that was available last week. I wound up at Bloody Terror at the end of both times I tested the quest; I hired Amerigo which moves your reputation back up a notch. Let me know if another try gets different results. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Pieter, I did utilize the RunMe.bat prior to playing/testing, I followed the directions starting from Build 13 and worked my way up. I would test to see if the game started after I loaded each Build or update. Most everything worked fine, and I took the phrase "alpha version" to heart. The Quest is working the way it was set up to, based on my experience of it. I was a little surprised at Vito's non exit, he never did that before, but it doesn't screw up the quest, so I'm not that worried about it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/type_1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nk" border="0" alt="type_1.gif" />

Hollidca, Welcome to the Site! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> I'm pretty sure that you're aware already, but the changed version of the Santos's Quest is only in the Build 14 version of the game, it's not in Build 13. ( <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> Hmmm, might have to set up some Build 13 compatible files and add them to the FTP, now that there is a stable version... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" /> ) If you do get a chance to play it, please give me some feedback on the experience, especially if things don't appear to be working. Thanks, and welcome again! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Didn't anyone who's tried the quest admire the pithy dialogue changes? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" /> I know you're out there.... I can hear you leaving! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" /> <i>(buh-dump-pah....t-ching!)</i>

I know I did. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

BTW: The FTP isn't working, unless it's been fixed now.

i sure noticed, for as far as i could. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

I'm just sorting the files on the old FTP for the transfer to the new one. There are two House of Matteus Santos folders. Are they still needed or are the files included in the Build anyway?

Edit: same question on the "Desmond Ray Beltrop Models" folder.

CCC! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Thanks! Yes, one file is for Build 12.1 compatible version, and the other was a Build 13 version, (not certain which version of 13 now... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> ) The Beltrop files are possibly the same, but it has been a while... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

If anything, I would lose the Build 13 version because I am sure it is not compatible with the final Build 13 release, however, some one could use those files to add it to a Build 13 game, if they know what they are doing, (The Santos files are pretty discrete, probably something to do with all that assassinating). On the off-chance that anyone is still playing with Build 12.1, and wants to add my update, I would like it if those files could stay on the FTP.

Thanks for doing this! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />
