i downsized most of the pics this time, but i think i missed one or two. not sure. anyway, here's the newest addition to the fleet.

<img src="http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s208/morgan_terror/P2280019.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<img src="http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s208/morgan_terror/P2280021.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<img src="http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s208/morgan_terror/P2280023.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<img src="http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s208/morgan_terror/P2280024.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<img src="http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s208/morgan_terror/P2280026.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<img src="http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s208/morgan_terror/P2280022.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

of course, even more fun than building the ship, is destroying it. i took some pics for fun. this actually serves a learning purpose. the more realistic you make them, the more realistic the damage is.

<img src="http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s208/morgan_terror/P3020001.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

and here's what you could call a critical hit:

<img src="http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s208/morgan_terror/P3040002.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
<img src="http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s208/morgan_terror/P3040003.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

one shot hit the main yard right in the middle.

<img src="http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s208/morgan_terror/P3040004.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

i later tried making a jury rig with the jib. it had originally lost it's clew which i had replaced with a piece of lateen. i was also clearing out some of the debris.

<img src="http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s208/morgan_terror/P3040006.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

and then, well... i don't quite know what happened. i suppose the thing finally fell apart all at once after a while.

<img src="http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s208/morgan_terror/P3040008.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

and here's some last pieces of wreckage that i untangled.

<img src="http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s208/morgan_terror/P3040005.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Good job! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Awesome Morgan! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> Did you use that Lego Digital Designer program to help you with that ship layout?

of course not! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

actually, the program doesn't work. besides, i am limited by my components. i used a small picture of the original and a bigger one of a xebec.

by the way, that wierd half-lateen on the mizzen is actually historically correct. the rig is pretty wierd in any sense, actually. there's no topmast shrouds on the main mast, for example. all the running rigging is led back to the mizzen crow's nest or straight down to the deck. also, i haven't quite figured out how you can bring the fore lateen around. it's of a very unusual design.

lego cannon. i shoot a pellet at the ship and then create the damage in that spot by hand. not flawless, but it works pretty well, since the place where the shot ends up is pretty random. i used to use a crossbow, but the lego projectile and some of the more delicate components couldn't handle it very well. besides, i've never seen a 'meter'-wide cannonball used in a seabattle. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> i might go back to using my crossbow, but it's the risk of actual damage to the bits that worries me.

YOU - DO - NOT - DAMAGE - LEGO!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

Well Pieter, you told Morgan "Good Job" after he announced and posted evidence of the wanton destruction.

Are you now claiming ignorance of the crime??

pah, i merely use it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> adding mecchano into the mix works really well though. it combines the intricate mechanics of lego with the strength of iron. i would post pictures of what i've done with it, but it's not quite finished yet.

thanks to you all, but really, the destruction was just for fun. it has it's own kind of cool.

i don't. i just add realistic wear and tear. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> i did snap a beam once though when i built a 1.5 meter high trebuchet. i'd rather keep them in one piece.

Why not? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Because it is THE epitome of evil; THAT'S WHY! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boom.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":boom" border="0" alt="boom.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blink:" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> Empi..tome? A tome of empi? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blink:" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> Wait what are ya talking about, what's empitome!? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> A tome that EMPs every electrical machine nearby? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wacko:" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" /> Well..we can call it evil then. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Nice ship, well done ropes and stuff.. but no comment on it's destruction,
I second what Meigger said. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> But who gives a shit? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> We got the pictures.. everything else is just your own business. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

the running rigging actually works, at least somewhat. i couldn't make some of the downhauls long enough to make it completely functional, but i can adjust everything to my liking.

Looks like you could trim your knots a bit, can't see too well in the close ups.

...but that's just me being pissy.

actually, it's just a crapload of slightly too thick ropes. the knots have to big though, otherwise they slip. i've had that a few times with the santa maria.

You could try a single slip if those are doubles (can't tell), and trim them back.

Then use over & under on your mast and arms for tidy knots.
