Three New Islands on the Worldmap

Well, Aruba was Dutch, so it'd be somewhat weird to not have a Dutch settlement there... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I've tried to give them invisible textures, as explained in <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?s=&showtopic=10381&view=findpost&p=192531" target="_blank">CCC tutorial</a> - replacing with hex editor 'leafPalms.tga' by 'waterfall.tga'. Then editing the ground textures files for removing the trees shadows and the location patch wouldn't be a problem. That way all palm trees do disappear, but CCC method isn't perfect, some weird white spots remain. Thomas the Terror, you must know this method better than I, there should be a way to remove the white spots, somehow!

Another thing that can be done in addition is removing all grass by editing the location .c file in PROGRAM/Locations/init/ folder, but that might be a bit excessive.

I just need to create a texture that is a full alpha channel. The white spots is of the waterfall bubbles. That location patch thingie I don't get how to do that. And I never fiddled the the shadwo textures. Maybe I am going to try after this week (have a week full of 'exams'"

Thanks, I will work on Curacao next week <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Removing the grass alltogether might not even be such a bad idea. Worth a try to at least see what it looks like. That definitly <i>would</i> make it look nice and dry! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
How would you remove the palm trees from the path file? I have no idea how to do that, but if we don't, you might walk into invisible palm trees. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />
The shadow files are regular texture files, right? In that case it should be doable to remove the palm trees' shadows.
I'd like to have some more desert-y jungle locations on Aruba to give it a nicely different look. We've seen jungles; now let's see something else. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />

For what I know, we can use Inez Tool to edit a location patch without any problem. There are things we cannot acheve with it, but walking into the trees - I think this is doable. If you want I can try on the smugler lair location (that will be your Dutch village so) and see what I can do. This one shoudln't be too complicate for a start.

EDIT : I've just tried out with Inez' Tool and all is working right, here a modified patch file in attachment

Hi all,

Well this could have been a nice little addition for the indians on the new Islands etc......but.(Tool......here we go again) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />o) .

[attachment=1870:Indian_Hut.jpg]

For some reason Tool recognised this scratchbuilt model as a Character <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> .....therefore it can't be added to a scene <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Just glad I tried it out before I spent more time making it look more detailed. Not giving in yet though.

Don't surrender, please! In the worst case we could add this like CCC's Building Set buildings are made...

Hi,
Well.. I hope it's something simple that I've overlooked . I am hoping to do a few veriants of that sort if building
and a cheifs' hut too.
If I can resolve the problem... I'll make a whole damned village. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

That looks pretty darn cool. Me wants! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />
Did you select the "Ship/Object/Location" thing in the main program window before exporting?

Cheers Pieter,
Me hopes you get! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
Ship/Object/Location.......won't open the file at all when I check that option before importing <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
The thing that worries me is that I sized the model up in Maya by importing a character > scaled the hut >then deleted the character before I exported the hut.
I wonder if that put/left character detail in the model ?

BTW, if I get it sorted, the model will need shadow files etc. ..won't it ?

damski.

I don't think we know anything about making shadow files. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Might be possible with that character. How about you make a new scene, then copy only the hut model into the new scene? Perhaps that erases some of the weird character left-overs. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Hi,
Pieter..do you mean make a new scene in Tool ?....It won' let me put the model into one, tried that earlier.

I think I'll just do the model again and size it in Tool afterwards.

Hi,

OK,
It was that hard to make in the first place ...about three hours ,mainly getting the texture to map right and make the texture. So now I know how to do it I might as well start afresh with a new model.
And at the risk of mass dissappointment I'm going to have a go at doing a village.

damski.

I still recommend you first try exporting as soon as you made one hut. When that works, you can try the village. I would hate to see you make a whole pretty village, only to find you can't get it ingame. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Okay, trying to make a model from scratch, you win! You are officially crazier than I am... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" /> Good luck with that! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Hi,
I have actuualy managed to export the hut model as a GM from Maya into TOOL and it opens now as a ship/item/location model ....opens in GMviewer as well , but.... it somehow has the model as it should be and then all the model parts jumbled on top/through it as well.
Just need to know how to use the locators properly and what names to give them. Also need to know how to use GrassGenerator exe.

Not far off being able to add new scenes now though. ....there is light at the end of the tunnel. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

That sounds... weird. I recommend you add that question to our ever-growing lost of questions to send to Akella.
Edit: Never mind. I see you already did it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Pieter
would that be the evergrowing list of questions that noboby else can seem to contribute towards .... that I wrote ?

May I suggest......just send it please, or we'll never get any answers.
