Tool for making characters and converting VRML files to gm

Queue? It's Blaze's head on a soldier_eng body, one of the ones with a ponytail. When you see him `in-game` it's a little more obvious that it's Blaze's head, because of the characteristic mesh structer under the skin. To me I'm afraid it kind of just comes off as Blaze with an unwashed face...

Downloaded the latest tool last night and tried it out. Getting better and better. The interface is even nicer looking, and `well-organized`. But a couple questions.

1) Did you say your initial fix for lost interior shading is now automatic or is there something I must do? I just released a new interior, for my apothecary, and since it's dark wallpaper it's not so bad, but I guess it could stand to be fixed. I haven't tried yet with any new rooms.

2) Just how do I get a shrunken or enlarged body to use the corresponding newly created animation? Is it a change in the model's code or to some text file somewhere?

What I picture, of course, is children... dirty little pickpockets or bratty spoiled royal brats. Or else an island of Lilliputians (maybe after you engage in `mind-altering` substances in the opium den) or whatever those giants were called...

And actually I was hoping youngin's might be possible almost a year ago, so it's really neat to have a way to do that now.

1) No, there's a menu item in the "edit mesh" window (something about lighting, I think), that creates a .col file. That file has to be renamed and dropped into the model's directory.
2) In a text file, I think characters.ini.

children: I wouldn't want to run around slayin children. If you have to do this, can you maybe make them immortal ?

<i>Nathaniel:</i> "You brat, give me my pistol back!"
<i>Kiddo, holding the pistol just put of our hero's reach:</i> "`Nah-nah`-`na-na`-nah!"
<i>Nathaniel, gribbing his sword's hilt and advancing with his officers on the child:</i> "You asked for it!"
<i>Kiddo, still grinning broadly:</i> "I'm immortal, Inez made me immortal!"
<i>Nathaniel:</i> "Oh, I'll guess I'll have to buy a new pistol then..."

Hm, didn't think of that. I wonder if you could make them run faster than you...

shoot, maybe this is a bad idea. It really pisses me off when someone robs me (and I find even when I successfully get my money back, if I still kill them it says I get the same amount they stole).

Aw, but it opens up far too many possibilities not to try it. You wouldn't have a problem with just knocking them unconscious, eh?

No, that's what CCC's sandbags and rocks are for <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />

Ha, oh yeah, and you'd get a humungous, irreperable rep hit for killing a kiddo, how's that.

"But sir, all's I was doing was standing here holding my sword out, and the little fool just ran himself right into it!"

<!--`QuoteBegin-alan_smithee`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(alan_smithee)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Ha, oh yeah, and you'd get a humungous, irreperable rep hit for killing a kiddo, how's that.[/quote]

Dat's y ye use de sandbag ... to make stargazers out of the tikes.

Awww, send'em to prison and scare the wits out of them! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I love this, will we REALLY be able to have little street urchins running about, and pretty young ladies walking around with their mothers? This is soooo cool!!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Well, I'd definitely prefer to knock them out with sandbags or stones, or send them to prison - but it's of course your mod and you do whatever you wish - I needn't play it if I don't like it. (Good thing they didn't have chainsaws at the time..)

Unfortunatelz there is no gorein the game, otherwise the chainsaw WOULD be quite useful... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

It'd also open it up, for those who like to play the game in the `1812-ish` fashion, for those middies and the like. For the rest of us -- cabin boys.

I'm pretty sure gore was intended by Akella, because of this small "blood splatter" effect texture I keep seeing among my files.

*pictures Ash transported back in time to the Colonial Caribbean, chainsaw for a hand* "Good, bad... I'm the cove with the blunderbuss."

----

Anyway no worries Inez, I'd hate to imagine the look of horror on your face were the tykes `kill-able`. I'd make them immortal...

Hey, here's an idea... Can we have boys on the ship, like cabin boys or powder monkeys or whatever? They can be part of the crew that fights, or midshipmen in your officer contingent??? Maybe figure up a way for a father to approach you with the idea of his lad becoming an apprentice???

You could hire a cabin boy and he'd be in your cabin, sure... Inez probably wouldn't want to see them part of the boarding crew, and I don't see why they should be anyway ... ha, maybe you could hire them to act as little pickpockets for you.

---

Inez: No dice; I tried the new `tool-generated` .col file for my apothecary, and it crashed my game.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->I tried the new `tool-generated` .col file for my apothecary, and it crashed my game.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Could you please check the file's size ? It should be four times as many bytes as there are points in the model.

EDIT:

Oh, and check the file date also! Does the tool overwrite the files AT ALL?
(If not, well then we've found the problem: I'm afraid the messagebox that aks you if you want to overwrite just never receives the positive answer <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" /> . I'll fix that soon.)

Anyway, the `tool-generated` col files are somewhat arbitrary, so they'll not be so much use even if they work.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->I have a problem with animation rescale ( with the arms )
When I look my little character he has problem with arms.
I do that.
-Open Blaze in tool
-clik on edit scens
-rescale blaze and his animation
-save blaze and animation
-Put information about my model and his animation in character_init
after that I start the game but there is problem with arms!<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
<b>zozogh</b>,
Aye, you're right - that happens when you rescale a model really dramatically (make it much smaller). Don't exactly know why that is. I found I can go down to about 2/3 of the original size without problems, after that the arms get weird.

Besides that I noticed if the filename is my.an, you also need my.ani (just make a copy if man.ani and rename it).

Inez, <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> I would like to add a reference to your Tool to the Location Cloning tutorial, including the text of your helpfile. Is that o.k. with you ?

Ok

It's frustrating that nobody seems to be interested in updating or adding to the Wiki anymore. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Oh, i am very much interested, and I have a halffinished questwriting tutorial on my disk. I only need TIIIME
I am always torn between enthusiasm about the unlimited opportunities PotC offers <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" /> and frustration about the very limited opportunities offered me <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />
