We need a new modpack compiler

Cap'n_Drow and Pirate_KK said they'd work together. I haven't heard from either in a while though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

As some of you might be aware, I will leave to sea for 150 days in February. I don't want to leave the PotC modding community lost at sea though, so there's a bunch of things I will need to do before I leave. I have written up a list of the things I need to do below. I was thinking of posting this on the PotC forum, but I thought it might be best to post it here first, so that you can comments on this first. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

<!--sizeo:3--><span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo--><i><b>A short summary of everything I need to do before I leave to sea</b></i><!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec-->
Please tell me if I am forgetting anything on this list. I want to be sure I have done everything I should before I leave.

<b>1) Find someone to succeed me as modpack compiler while I'm gone</b>
Pirate_KK and Cap'n Drow said they would be working together on this. I heard from Pirate_KK recently and he said he'll take on the job. I didn't hear from Cap'n Drow in a while though. So it seems at the moment that Pirate_KK will be doing it alone.

<b>2) Find one or more people to moderate the PotC forum</b>
This is required just to make sure that the discussions here remain friendly and any rubbish is removed. It is also useful if somebody can (un)sticky certain important topics. Who should be the new moderator(s)? So far I thought of: Hook, CouchcaptainCharles, Pirate_KK, Cap'n_Drow and/or Jonathan Aldridge. Petros and Meigger have already declined. I have heard no word from either of the other people yet, even though I did send them PMs.

What do you people think of this? Who would you like as new moderator(s)? Also: If you are on my list of suggested people, please let me know how you would feel about being a moderator.

<b>2) Get as much good stuff into a stable Build 13 Update as possible</b>
To be able to do this, I need to have seperate Build 14 Alpha mods confirmed working. Please see <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=9396" target="_blank">here</a> to find out how you can help with this.

<b>3) Release Build 13.1 in a full installer file that works as good as I can make it</b>
I will do this shortly before I leave for sea. I will add all fixes to Build 13 in here, along with all Build 14 Alpha mods that are confirmed working in time.

<b>4) Finish my improvements to CCC's mapships mod</b>
This is not really important, but I would like to do this as a sort-of "goodbye" to you all. I don't know if I'll be able to find time for this though.

<b>Other things that should be done:</b>
- Figure out who the currently active modders are
- Restore Maximus' AoP towns mod for PotC
- Restore Maximus' improvements to the talk-to-the-captain mod that I had been keeping out of Build 13 just to make sure no additional bugs would be added
- Make the many ship and character models that are scattered on the FTP compatible with Build 13

I will probably be unable to do all this myself, but some of the things are relatively easy and might be done by other people while I am gone.

While I am gone, I will try to check in on the community every now and then, as time and possibilities permit. And I will return to the community as long as there's a community left to return to when I get back.

pieter about fact 2 a)i sure wanna be a mod and i think many other people do but thats more up to admins to decide that
anyhow i sure wanna be candidate also i prefer Hook, and CCC

and fact4 great i would love to see new and better mapships

How about giving moderator rights to ALL the candidates you mentioned? That way we could split the task and improve the probability that a mod is actually availlable.

Cause I am willing to do my best to keep this forum going, but from spring to autumn there will surely be weeks or even months where I can't be here at all.

Could you explain what is it exactly ? I'm working on a new quest so if there are shortly new locations, it would be useful to know what are these new locations.

would you mind testing that new quest of yours a bit when it's finished before adding it to the modpack please? i'm still trying to finish your first after every bugfix. it's not that i don't like your quest, it's just the bugs that...well...bug me.

Pieter only accepts to add a quest into the modpack if it works.

I think that could be a pretty good idea. William has said that he thinks it would be a good idea to have multiple moderators for the PotC forum, so that shouldn't be much of a problem. At the moment I am trying to find out who would actually want to be a moderator. It would be a bit odd to make several members moderators without them actually wanting to be one. I'll put you on the list of people who <i>would</i> be willing to be a moderator, allright? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

This mod will replace the current Tortuga and Guadeloupe town models with the AoP ones. This only applies to the port locations though. So there'd be two locations replaced. They do work fine; I tested them. However I lost just about all files for this, so I'd have to refind them and remerge them with the current Build 14 Alpha version. So I won't be able to put this in very soon, but I do hope to be able to do it before I leave. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I put just about everything in the Build 14 Alpha pack, but I will only add stuff that is confirmed working in the Build 13.1 version I want to make before leaving. I haven't actually tested Bartolomeu's quests, so I don't know if they work. For all I know, nobody else tested them either. Which is a shame. It might help if the Questbook descriptions would be a bit clearer about what to do next. I tried to play the Turks Help quest, but apparently I didn't get to Santo Domingo quickly enough, because the quest timed out. I wonder if this had to do with the Direct Sail mod though, because I don't think I really did take a long time to get there. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

it has a time limit? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> still, it's odd that the quest was so messed up when you had to free the crew. it's just odd.

There is only a time limit in the Turks help. But it's possible to reach Santo Domingo. About the questbook, i will send you a modified version on the next days.

look at the quest book entries from other quests for an example. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

ok, i'll do. But as i said in the bug tracker, i need more people playing my quests.

Pieter, I'm willing to help moderate the forum. If you have several moderators it would be better. I haven't actually played the game in a month, but I read the forums several times a day. I should continue to read the forums whether or not I'm playing or actively modding for quite a while.

Hook

Thanks a lot, Hook! That's two people up for the job! We're going in the right direction now. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Good to see we have some folks to take up the slack while Pieter is away. I've got heavily involved with other things recently and haven't even been finding time to play PotC at all.

So i'll take this opportunity to say thanks to all you guys and i enjoyed being a small part of the effort to get build13 as good as possible in those last mad few weeks of testing prior to it's release. Sadly i doubt i'll find the time i had been able to(and on that note i need to change my 'assinged' bug in the bug tracker, as i dont think i can do more on it!) for that.

I will pop in from time to time, but my level of involvement will be restricted to the odd post. Thanks for having me(as both child of Thor ages ago, and BB for build13 playtesting) and hope you all can keep on improving on the build <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />:

It's a shame that you are now too busy to be very active here; your presence is missed. Know that you'll be more than welcome whenever you have time to drop in. Thanks a lot for everything you've done as well. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

I"ve finally returned only to find we've all been very inactive and quiet for quite some time. **winks**
