This is really rich. Next thing they'll be begging for a mod that gets rid of the Carribean and lets you play on the Archipelago. ROFLMAO.

I am going to have to mind my temper when I come here and read some of these quotes, and I am going to have to remember that some people's only knowledge of piracy comes from Russian computer games, which is a shame. I am going to have to remember that even though some people never picked up a book in their entire lives and live a shallow, meaningless existence in their world of gaming, they are people too and deserve more than to be `keel-hauled` --- to some extent.
No, instead of going 'round and 'round and repeating the same old sentiments, instead of explaining that a group of us campaigned hard and begged Akella to get rid of the monthly payments because ti was exactly the opposite of what real pirates did, instead of trying to make sense out of the moronic idea that aging should be turned off in Pirates! --- AGING, for God's sake --- the very fiber of the game which makes it perfectly balanced in every respect and forces you to chose what path you will pursue.... Instead of reiterating all of that, I wil try to see these issues from the viewpoint of my prestegious compariots.
And as such, I ask..... God and Druken, exactly why do you want monthly payments for your crew? Let me ask you, and answer me honestly: don't you find it thrilling when, after months of cruising the Caribbean, the men are restless and you put into a friendly port and hit the divide plunder button? Isn't it fun to see how they will react, happy or not so happy? And isn't it great how, based on the success or failure of your last voyage, you can expect a larger or smaller turnout for the next? This is how it happened in real life, and this is what Firaxis gave us.
Maybe you could outline for us the benfits of the Akella model, then?
Oh, and as for the posters in other threads who are saying Pirates! is repetetive: there are nuances in Pirates! you have yet to discover. You will never play the same game twice. That's because of the aging: it forces you to prioritize and scrutinize what you will do next --- because you CAN'T do everything, you must pick and chose what you do and every game becomes a mad rush to accomplish as much as you can. But you will never accomplish everything. Compare that to a `quest-based` game like POTC where everything truly is repepetive. Start a new game of POTC and you have no choice --- the quests are the same and they all must be followed. By contrast, SM Pirates! doesn't force me to pursue any path if I don't want to. Saying Pirates! is repetetive is like saying Morrowind is repepetive.
