Where are my cherished ships

I had switched off this RPG mod but those ships wasn´t in my shipyrds. But I think I didn´t start new game I only reinitialize it. Maybe nobody would do it who wouldn´t know it concretely because nothing similar wasn´t in the game so far what about RPG mod for ships concerns. And this Build Setting.h file is quite large now. But maybe this starting new game isn´t the point. I don´t know . Because first I had this RPG mod switched on and there were only few ships. And after my switch off this function in the course of playing all ships appeared in my Shipyards except 1 calls ships. If it is another necessary condition for appearing of those 1 class ships - starting new game after switching off RPG mod It would be very useful if it would written it in very bold font in BuildSettings.h as some important reminder. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Please note that REALISTIC_SHIP_PURCHASE is <i>totally unrelated</i> to the RPG mod. Please open BuildSettings.h, search for REALISTIC_SHIP_PURCHASE and set it to 0. Then start a new game. If you don't set that to 0, Manowars will not be available in shipyards no matter what other settings you change.

OK, Pieter. I will do it and I will be it in my mind. Thank you. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Pieter, I tried everything anew, put everything as was previously and really find the the only thing that relate to appearing 1 class ships is the function that you mention above. No direct relation to the RPG mod of playing. So, it was really my fault ( oversighting) and not anybody else.
<b>So, I would like to apologize to you and anybody from current modders for my unjust and mad-brained reaction. And I would like to apologize to you Hook too, I don´t want any quarrel with you in the future and I think you are a good modder. The game is a little complicated lately and anybody who don´t follow it all the time can be lost in it somehow before discovering all the coherences. </b> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

That's great, Rad! Glad you got it working properly. This does explain why it wouldn't work for you. If you don't change that setting, no matter what you do, the Manowars will remain unavailable. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I thought I had recommended you to change that setting several days ago. There must've been some pretty bad miscommunication here. Shame. At least it's solved now, right? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

My fault, Pieter. If I could remark anything about this issue yet I would do it. And any start of new game isn´t needed here by disabling this option. But what´s the new healing system? By disabling this function what will change in this healing function? Maybe it would be fine if these two functions could be adjusted particularly. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Hi, Nosie. I would like to ask you if you ever have been using these great Manowars in the game. If not and if you would want to try them I could ask you how to do that if you wouldn´t know. They are really great. By my opinion the best ships in game so far. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Rad, I hardly ever buy any ships at all. since you'r at war
with the french, sail to Falaise de Fleur and capture one. There are
normaly quite a few around at the time when you get a bit stronger.
If you insist on buying one, you see them in Redmond or Isla Muelle.
Again you will have to have a fair amount of experience!
I get myself the Belette (guarding Oxbay) and later on sometimes
buy the 74 Gun Ship of the line, which is a bautifull ship and very
powerfull. At Khael Roa I capture the 'Ruler of the Sea' and use it from than on.
Man of War are a bit slow, but fill out any harbor nicely!
Now if you like to cheat, you could use a Man of War by inserting it at the bottom
of Buildsetting.h so it will appear in the start menu. However, I know you don't like to
that, don't you RAD!!?
Buying a MoW is of course very expencive.
Another thought: I always sail one ship only ever. Only tow along captured ships
to be sold. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

I try to do this but I end up with several cool ships that I can't bear to part with, so I always have 1 or 2 extras tailing me.

Hi, Nosie. Somethimes I use one ship and sometimes two ships. It´s quite amuzing give some orders to my second ship. If only these skills in icon menu worked yet. It would be good. But sometimes my captain of my second MOW is too eager and sink enemy ships before me. But I will set encounter of enemy ships to class 1 and it will be good and more chalenging yet. And all depends too at what difficult one play game. I play at the hardest difficulty this time and it´s good. And I think I found out what causes the crashes of my game. But I don´t want to talk about it without I will confirm it for myself. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Hi Rad. Don't worry about it. I can understand your frustration. I'm glad you got the problem worked out.

I've sailed a lot of 74 gun SOL's, but I've never bought one at a shipyard. They always come up as opponents eventually, and I capture them. Actually, I don't remember the last time I looked through all the ships the shipyard had for sale.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Hook, the 74 GsoL is at the Redmond Shipyard, but only if you turn off the realistic
ship buying in Buildsettings.h. It could be at other shipyards, but I never check because
there are far to many ships in the listing. I counted 83 at one time! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

That´s true Noise. As I have all ships in shipyards to disposition but I still miss some of them, especially ships 2 class as Hook´s Gun line ships and some other ships mainly of 2 class. Is some limit for ships´ number in these open Shpiyards? I have 80 ships present now. If it is limit in that and if this number could be extended yet it would be fine. In opposite case I would try to block those small ships as tartanas in my game and maybe some further absent ships would appear yet. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

And maybe I will try to print this map for mysef too. It isn´t bad idea. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The new healing system is a mod that is not actually in the modpack. So enabeling it will have no effect whatsoever. This mod is meant to be included in Build 13.1. It will add two new health items: Bandages and Cauterization Kits. These items will be reasonably common, while the original potions will be more rare and more expensive. This mod wouldn't really add much in the sense of actual realism, but it would add what I call "fake realism". It doesn't change the workings of the game at all, but the new items feel more real as health increasing items. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

Do you know the Ship Berthing mod? With that mod, you can berth your ships at any port. Then these ships will not sail with you, but you can relaunch them any time you want again. This mod might not be working entirely right, but it's worth a try. Last time I checked, it did work pretty well. And if it doesn't work well anymore, we'll know one more bug to fix. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

80 ships??? I always have about 10 or 20, never more. There might be a limit on the number of ships, but I don't know where. I think there might be a good reason to have a limit. I can imagine it'll be pretty hard on the game to have 80 ships in one shipyard.

<!--quoteo(post=164997:date=Oct 2 2006, 08:56 AM:name=Rad)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Rad @ Oct 2 2006, 08:56 AM) [snapback]164997[/snapback]</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->

That would be a good solution, I think. Open up PROGRAM\SHIPS\ships_init.c and set all ships you don't want to appear to <i>refShip.CanBuy = false;</i>. If this line is already there for a ship you don't want, make sure it is set to false. If it isn't there yet, just add the line manually. After you have done this, load the game and press to reinitalize. No new game required, as long as you press . <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Oh, please don´t limit this number of ships. I would unlimit it completely if it isn´t so, as really all the ships were here if one wants to choose that. Or maybe give some option to the BuildSettings.h how many ships one wants to have in Shipyards in the case of open Shipyrds - 40, 80, 100, all. And if anybody doesn´t like this option, he can always swich off this possiblity. I am using it for the reason that if you use this restricted shipyards by several chosed options you will be very often in situatoin that you never meet a concrete ship that you like and want to buy and this ship maybe never appers for you in any shipyrd. Because everything is generated mathematically by theory of probability of occurence. This happened to me many times in the course of playing. It´s as a lottery. If you good luck you can win several times in your life but if not you never win in your life. And my game works fine with these 80 ships in my shipyards without any reduction of performance. By this I can try many ships that I haven´t seen very long time already. By the way computers improve very fast. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

I am not found in such things as bandages and many another small restricting things that are rather bothering for me and hinder fluent and action style of playing. If there will be less potions and will be more expensive fewer poeple will be playing game at the highest difficulty because they would be dead very often. For the first time I play at Swashbuckler difficulty and it is really amusing as some pirate leaders has 1000 points of life. And it isn´t too much easy to kill them. And you can need quite much potions for itself and your officers in the course of skirmishes in boardings. I hope it will be optional. But I think I won´t use it if I won´t be compelled to that. I even switched off using food because I had always problems with it especially when I had a big crew.

This two function that I meant is nonsense because I didn´t know what this mod entails. Forget that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

And if I could write here my dream about future of modding PoTC.....
I would got a quest from friendly qovernor to takes my fleet of 4 MOWs with 4000 crew and sail and conquer for example the Fallaise de Fleur. First shoot to pieces (metaphorically) the fort and second fight with town and fort crew for the town and conquer it for British imperium for example or for gain ransom and famous. The exactly this way it was in Sead Dogs and perfectly performed and functioning. For that reason I recommended here Sea Dogs already for anbody who didn´t play this game to try it at least once, clearly for the reason of practical inspiration. It could be inspiring and one could see in what dirrection could be modding of PoTC headed in future with better graphic and much more friendly code for modding than Sea Dogs. But with this style of playing you can´t be in constant shortage of crew and be unnecessarily limited with shortage of food and so on. When you fight for conquering enemy islands of hostile nation you can have all these needed tools and resouces for fight in hand and in perfect condition and unhindered. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Cheers Charles. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cheers.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="cheers.gif" />

Bandages don't restrict the player, because they ARE potions. They just have different interface pictures. Anyway: I deliberately added a toggle for those who won't like it.

As I could understand it the partial exchanging potions with bandages will cause the healing with them will be probably less effective than by potions, less comfortable and in concord with worse accessibility of potions and doing them more expensive, all that will probably cause worsening of healing possibility or doing it more complicated at least. I meant it this way. Or am I wrong? And for that reason I wrote I would like if it would be optional. All the game can be played by several quite different way by the taste of player. And for that reason it is good so many things is optional here. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" />

You KNOW there is a toggle on that mod. The reason this discussion got to the subject of that mod is <i>because</i> you saw the toggle for that mod in BuildSettings.h. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

I don't think this mod would change gameplay much. You'll just use bandages instead of potions most of the time. I'm not sure if the [C] key works on bandages. If not, you'll have to use them through the [Enter] menu. This would be slightly more complicated, but not more complicated than it was in the original game. I could even make it so that bandages CAN be used with the [C] key. That way there would be no gameplay difference whatsoever, except for the fact that there'd be two more health items that have different values for healing. And it you don't like it, just use the toggle you found. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

I also want to add a mod into the game that limits the "effective blocking" time. At the moment, when you press [Ctrl] you can keep blocking forever without actually doing anything. That is truly unrealistic. I want to make it so that you can only block for a short period of time. If you are hit while still blocking but <i>after</i> that time period has passed, then you'll get hurt as if you weren't blocking at all. This would make fights much more challenging, because you can't block as long as you like anymore. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />

This mod in combination with the bandages mod might make the game much more realistic. If you must use the bandages through the [Enter] menu while you are blocking and the blocking time is limited, then using bandages is sort-of risky. At the moment, using anything through the [Enter] menu isn't risky at all, because you can't be hit while you are blocking anyway. So if using cheap bandages is risky, then you'd be very happy to find some rare potions which you CAN use with the [C] key. This would make potions much more valuable in the game.

I personally think the above ideas would make the game more interesting and challenging. However, toggles will be added for those who won't like it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
