A&M map & islands in build 12

Hear hear, to every word!
Pretty soon will be the two-year anniversary of POTC's release, and this site which started about the same time (I think...).
It's a dual blessing, for few are the things whose anniversaries mark an overflowing year's worth of good times--as each these do--and fewer yet that go from that further upwards each next year.

Hi,

I tried to follow the discussion and to read carefully every post, but that's not
so obvious. So please don't blame me if I just repeat well known stuff.

- If I understand well this new map includes all POTC islands + new islands
named after real carribean islands but not with their actual shape. Correct ?

- It would be nice to have a sketch map of the position of these islands!

- Speaking about the random terrain generator: Do you want to have a different
terrain every time you enter a location ? Is that what you want ?

Otherwise, I think in the old Elite/Frontier game there was something like that
but done with fixed random seeds. So, if you set the random generator
seed at a given number (one per location) you would generate the very same
terrain every time the player enter it. Wouldn't it be better ?

I don´t get this all either. These are islands from a russian modpack? And what about their locations? Will they be reused locations 100% or are there other things done in Russia? Best thing so far is the weaponlocker in the cabin. Have not tried everything out yet.
 
The weaponlocker was CouchcaptainCharles' own mod, it was not lifted from the A&M Addon. I think the russian mod team DID make a few new locations for their mod. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
 
Sorry but the russian mod team didn't make new locations for their mod. They only used "location cloning method" and on top of that, they added its in game by using The DLL's files. So we have to re-create them all in the C files and it could take a certain time <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
 
No reason for being sorry! I´m sure this will end up as a great thing with all the possibilitys of many new islands. Has it been discussed to grab "their" location clonings or maybe we can do something as good by ourselves? JRH
 
They also re-placed the islands so's they'd mimic (to some degree) the actual caribbean. You can look at A&M addon\resource\textures\interface\mapX.tga.tx for the islands-as-carib.
(X is 1-3, for varying clarity/detail).
Note: North is RIGHT, _not_ up!

And while the shapes are pretty wrong, the _positions_ (excepting, heh, Venezuala!) are actually pretty good, for what they had to work with.

I think we could rectify the windrose in our mod. Furthermore, in our pack, the "original" islands of the game have still their primary names (Redmond is still redmond and not jamaica for example). If we want to rename the original islands as in this map, it would be a hard work to adjust all the code in all the files (descriptions, dialogs files, quest files, loading screens,.......) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
 
I'd say: Just keep out imaginary names. Don't think there should be anything wrong with that, right?

Just why did they code it in DLL´s <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" /> This would have been <b>fantastic</b>.
 
Moved to Build Alpha (Not necessarily because the code is alpha, but because it's future). But if you(all)'d rather this be in modding, build main, or build beta, let me know.
 
Just my personal opinion, but after all this splitting up I can't find anything anymore. And I'm not too happy about looking in three or more forums for the stuff I was being used to.
But if you (all) like it this way - well I'll get used to it...
 
Ah, you have a point.
The hope was mainly with this to allow:
*People who want something stable to know to not download the beta or alpha
*people who talk about build gameplay/T&T etc. post in the build forum not the main one, so we don't have to ask each time.
*and, _only_ bugs in the bugs forum, to make bugfixing easier (and have a centralized repository).

We could also do it with subject tags rather than subforums.
 
I've got to agree with Inez Dias, that I find it way more complicated to browse five or so forums instead of one. I've never been a big fan of spit-up forums. But that's just me.
 
Me, I just hit the "View New Posts" link at the top right and just go through them that way. BUT some of the new subforums need to be designated PotC, because they just come across as undefined ("Beta Bugs" for instance), and that made me pause before choosing because I wondered if it was for SMPirates! or PotC.

From wherever the downloads come - perhaps there should be a caveat posted - something like "These mods are in a developmental phase and may cause errors in your game. If you want a more stable game please download the "official" Build release instead of these BETATEST mods. Thanks."

The way I see it, part of the problem is that the clean downloadable Build 12 update was never finished before a full blown Pre build13 effort was started.

Now we have people trying Build12.1, PotcMods, Pre 13 and asking questions.
(as well as all the individual mods)

The result is that we have some bugs/questions on one, the other or sometimes both, or all three.

Add that to people's questions about regular Build 12, and it get very confusing.
