A ship skin idea

Cylon13

Super Zealot
Well the idea is about making cursed version of some ships (indiaman, frigate, corvette. etc) not like Black Pearl when it was looking cursed, i mean a cursed skin what Flying Dutchman had when it was captained by Davy Jones. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

It would be cool to have another ship cursed with seaweady green skin but this time a stock PotC ship or the indiaman when light issue fixed. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

And i also have a idea about making special script for Flying Dutchman and alike so it goes against the wind faster than with the wind so it would be like 10.0-13.0 with the wind and something like 17.0 against the wind. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

i'd swap those speeds around if i where you. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> still, it seems a nice idea to be able to sail quickly against the wind. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

Umm ..nope ..what you'r talking about? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

of course that's how she takes her prey, other square-rigged ships can't sail against the wind at all! even if it goes 2 knots, that would still be faster than going nowhere. and i'd think the wind would have at least some effect on her speed. the dutchman is slower than the pearl in any situation, but the dutchman can sail against the wind, and the pearl can't.

Having the Dutchman being able to sail against the wind would be really cool. I think this was even part of the original non-PotC Flying Dutchman myth. The Flying Dutchman was a ship doomed to always try to round Cape Horn and was always seen sailing <i>against the wind</i>.

What do you want to do with the cursed stock ships?

What? ..me? ..well ..umm play with them in game? put cursed ship in a quest where you can get cursed and a cursed ship and feel cursed? or something like that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

the dutchman from the legend wasn't ALWAYS sailing against the wind though. maybe you already know this, but the legend was formed by a fata morgana:

when there's a tropical storm, or when it's a really warm air temperature in general, a ship's image might be mirrored by the sky. that explains the part of the myth why the dutchman always was sighted during a storm, and that if you would see the dutchman, your ship would sink because of a storm that would follow the sighting short after, or during the sighting. this would of course not always happen, but tropical storms are very dangerous to sailing ships. the mirage also explains why the dutchman was often sighted sailing over land. the sailing over land, and the fact that the ship was sometimes mirrored on the clouds themselves, gave it the flying part of the legend.

Well is there someone willing to do those Flying Dutchman like cursed reskins for best pirate ships like frigate and corvette? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

We don't exactly have many active skinners anymore around here. Just Thomas the Terror, I think. And he's already got <i>plenty</i> to do. There's also Razor who does some skinning work. And Petros, one of the best skinners we had, has been posting on the forum again. But like usual the best way to make sure something is done is to do it yourself. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Plenty, that is just an eufenism (or how do you call it in english) I have got REALLY much to do: school, work, sport, and a LOAD of mods I haven't released and mods I want to make. so sorry.

I would like to do it myself but ..i don't know nothing about skinning. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/type_1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nk" border="0" alt="type_1.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Woot? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" /> where exactly? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" />

Converting texture files can be done with the TX Converter. Then you need a program to modify said texture files and you need to learn how to use that program.

Allright and witch is the best texture editing program what Build Mod Community skinners use?

Whenever I do any texturing work, I use Photoshop CS2, sometimes in combination with Paint. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

Anyways ..i'll try look more into ..eh skinning. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Ok im downloading Photoshop CS2 9.0.2 free version or something ..i hope it has those abilites to make a new skin for frigate or corvette ..and i think it would easier to take a already made skin and reskin it somehow? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> ..anyways im checking that program tomorrow. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />
