Boy, you're not asking much <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> In all honesty, I'm not a manual artist, but if you can find such a picture, the smoke lettering should be no problem.

Here's a splash screen based on the logo idea I posted this morning. I didn't know the dimensions, but if they're different, I can always change it.

<img src="http://i321.photobucket.com/albums/nn364/captarbie/Splash_final.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

What we could use:
- Splash screen shown when starting ENGINE.exe
- Main menu image
- PiratesAhoy! modding team banner for <a href="http://www.moddb.com/groups/piratesahoy-community" target="_blank">this page</a> (to replace the multiple "Pirates Ahoy! Chasing booty since 2003" images)
- Various small images for news/downloads preview images on pages like <a href="http://www.moddb.com/mods/potc-build-mod/news" target="_blank">this</a> and <a href="http://www.moddb.com/mods/potc-build-mod/downloads" target="_blank">this</a>

The black and red colour scheme and logo could be useful for the PiratesAhoy! team banner.
That would go well with the already black background for that part of the team page.

For the splash screen and main menu image, I would prefer something more colourful and oldfashioned, possibly including period paintings or promotional material from the films.
For example, this is a Build 14 banner that I had quickly whipped up at some point:
<img src="http://media.moddb.com/images/downloads/1/12/11618/potc_new_horizons.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

It's far from being perfect, but it does give a general idea of the style I personally would like.
Additional comments from other people are still welcome though and your own personal artistic input is, of course, also much valued. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

i have many images from the movies i found on the internet and if you want to use them i can upload them.
Here's some of them:
<a href="http://f.imagehost.org/view/0305/jack" target="_blank"><img src="http://f.imagehost.org/t/0305/jack.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a><a href="http://f.imagehost.org/view/0513/GOWall_05" target="_blank"><img src="http://f.imagehost.org/t/0513/GOWall_05.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a><a href="http://g.imagehost.org/view/0300/AWE-Concept-Art-6-web" target="_blank"><img src="http://g.imagehost.org/t/0300/AWE-Concept-Art-6-web.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>

Some great background images <a href="http://www.woodenboat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=80245" target="_blank">here</a>.

My favs: <img src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d31/inuitsea/Tall%20Ships/p-tall_ships063.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<img src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d31/inuitsea/Tall%20Ships/p-tall_ships056.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<img src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d31/inuitsea/Tall%20Ships/p-tall_ships060.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Go right ahead. Can't hurt to have a whole bunch of possibly useful image files all together. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

To Bava: Those are great! I see LOTS of opportunities! Those are just begging to be used as loading screens somewhere. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I like those Bava. They have a lot of potential.

Pieter, if you could provide me with the dimensions for the banners and splash screens and such, I could start putting some stuff together

i tried to do a logo for COTBP quest <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
<a href="http://f.imagehost.org/view/0545/COTBP_quest_LOGO" target="_blank"><img src="http://f.imagehost.org/t/0545/COTBP_quest_LOGO.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>

<b>Build 13 Splash Screen:</b> 600x400
<i>Suggestion:</i> I would like something a bit in a similar style to what we have now, but different; maybe a different colour scheme too?
Blueish like on the Build 14 logo I did instead of greenish as it is now, perhaps? Just a random suggestion; feel free to try something else. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

<b>Download/News Preview Images:</b> 120x90
<i>Suggestion:</i> This could be a skull logo with written on it "Download" or "News"

<b>Main menu:</b> desktop resolution (1280×720 or so) - to be resized later to 1024x1024
<i>Note:</i> There's two main menu's, one for the Blue interface and one for the Brown interface

<b>PiratesAhoy! Team Banner:</b> 941x139
<i>Note:</i> Try to make sure it doesn't interfere with the "PiratesAhoy! Community, Development & Publishing Group" text

For reference, I attach a sample of all the current images in use.

To SilverSparrow: That might be able to use a bit more work. You can't read the text very well on that background and the font looks fairly modern. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
Other than that, it's a nice concept. I'm just wondering where we could use such an image. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

The following images might prove useful. Those were made last time we were trying to generate some publicity material.

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.net/build/images/publicity/awe_skull.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.net/build/images/publicity/b14_logo1.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.net/build/images/publicity/b14_logo2.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.net/build/images/publicity/drawing.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.net/build/images/publicity/drawing2.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
Same as above, but with increased contrast.

Very big = <a href="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/88/The_Battle_of_Trafalgar_by_William_Clarkson_Stanfield.jpg" target="_blank">http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm...n_Stanfield.jpg</a>

Here's a splash screen for when the engine starts for you to consider

<img src="http://i321.photobucket.com/albums/nn364/captarbie/splash_3_final.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Where is the splash file located in the game folder? I'd like to test this out. ;-)

EDIT: New image inderted

In build 13, I think its \..PoTC\RESOURCE\Textures\INTERFACES\BACKGROUND\build1.tga.tx

You will need the txconverter from the modding tools on the ftp.

Actually, the real splash screen is saved IN ENGINE.exe and you can modify it using a program like "Resource Hacker".

Thanks Pieter, I got it to work on mine.

So what do you guys think of it? I'm gonna come up with a ModDb banner tonight.

I'm not entirely sure what to think of the splash screen you made. On the one hand, it gives an interesting atmosphere. On the other hand, it doesn't really show much of what the game is about and you can't read the text very well... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

<!--quoteo(post=300687:date=Feb 11 2009, 04:12 AM:name=Pieter Boelen)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Pieter Boelen @ Feb 11 2009, 04:12 AM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=300687"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->I'm not entirely sure what to think of the splash screen you made. I understand. I may still change the outline around the text to a gold color to make it stand out. I just got the idea in my head and when that happens I keep going till I get something I like. Still, the image is only on screen for a total of 5 seconds before the game loads and looks better than some stock picture of a wave crashing. Obviously I'd be delighted if you used it but if not, have no fear...I can always make other ones <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

It most certainly IS better than the dull stock game one. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

There, image fixed. The text is now readable. You were right, the red outline looked good on my creen, but didn't make the text pop out. Gold outline is much better. Of course, gold makes everything better.

The icons are looking good, Arbitterm. A little more brightness for the "build mod" letters, perhaps? Would be easier to read for my old eyes <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

@Captain Sir Henry Morgan: Thanks for my new desktop background image <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Regards,
Bava

Of course Bava. I guess I can take my good eyesight for granted. How's this?
