Hello all.

I've just uploaded update 7 of experimental Build 14. It's available <a href="http://www.s31clan.com/pietersmods/potc_downloads/build14/Build14A7.exe" target="_blank">here</a> (59,3 MB). It should be installed over Build 14 Alpha 6.

Instalation:
1. Execute installer. When asked select main game directory (where ENGINE.EXE is).
2. After instalation file postinstall.exe can be removed.
3. Start a new game (sorry).

Main character has more control on buying or selling guns. That might work

When fighting in the last location (usually enemy ship cabin) main character
will face captain of the ship. However, main character and his officers won't
be magically healed anymore when moving from one deck to other.

National keyboard is available when using one of supported languages. Added

- Modified Escalated Battleship
The model has total of 80 guns (6 on stern instead of 2). Unfortunately I
didn't manage to find out how to make them visible. Fleurs de lis pattern
removed from hers borts - it looked good, but strange if ship wasn't french.

Please note that with this download only English version is available. Other versions (Russian, French, etc) will be uploaded and available later. I didn't update the internet page yet.

Argh! 31.5 MB! Too much to download for me. Could you please make a version excluding all files I already have? Or could somebody download some stuff for me and send it to me on a CD or something? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
 
Installed per instructions and got this error message...

Could you please enable error.log, compile.log and system.log and upload them? To do it you must edit [script] section of the engine.ini file to look like this:<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->[script]

I'm terribly sorry. Try to extract attached file to your main game directory and start it again. You'll need download current version, but you'll need to apply that anyway.

i've seen that error before. it's caused, in my experience, by the wrong buildsettings file.
 
That error could be caused by anything, not just by BuildSettings.h.

Could somebody give me the PROGRAM and RESOURCE\INI folders for Alpha 7? The resource files themselves are too much for me to download. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

BTW, I have some question: did someone tried to install corrected version (that 59.3 MB)? Does it still breaks the game?

I got some problems with Build 14 Alpha 7.

After installation I've got an abnormal programm termination
The error log says that SOUND.H can't be loaded

Then I copy the old sound.h into the program\sound folder. So I can start the game.

But now I have no music in the Main Menu. There was no error log created but the system.log say:

But I didn't have the CutthroatIsland_Main_Theme file cause I use my own music files.
So what did I have to change to use my own music in Main Menu?
The music.ini is correct, but it seems the music.ini file isn't responsible for this any more.

The next problem I've got is that I can't open the options menu. Every time I click the "Option" button in the Main Menu I got a CTD. No error.log is created. Only thing I found was in the system.log

how about the aliases file? i've discovered that if there isn't a track to play programmed in for a location, the game crashes.
 
Well, I must explain what I've done with music and sounds.

In some point I observed that there were some sounds missing due to limitations in RESOURCE\INI\ALIASES\sound_alias.ini. So, I rewrote the code so it uses "double" methods: uses sound_alias.ini and, additionally, sounds from PROGRAM\sound\alias\sounds_<language>.c. I also wanted ensure that player would automatically select correct sounds, greetings, etc after switching a language, without necessity of copying or renaming any external files. The similar system I've used for music, but now it's required that "standard" music is directly in RESOURCE\Sounds\MUSIC. I stupidly assumed that everyone uses 'music packs' which were available from Pieters' Pirates Page (Pirates Gold!, Cutthroat Island, Master & Commander or PotC Movie music), so interface "assumes" identically. Now one can have many "music packs" on the disk and switch between them in interface, but only between those. So, the whole thing ignoresRESOURCE\INI\ALIASES\music_alias.ini and gets mad when in directory is something different than were originally in former versions...

No, it's possible. I wrote external program which converts ini files from resource\ini\aliases\*.ini to c files from program\sound\alias. However, I'd need to improve interface more so it would accept some other, external configuration...

I tried it but unfortunately it doesn't work. I got the same runtime error again.
 
Did you get any error.log file?

I'm sorry I'm doing debugging this way but I have very little HD space and don't want do destroy my version - if I did, restoring everything would be more difficult...

That is everything that is located in the error.log

Copying an old sound.h file into program\sound folder solves the problem and I've been able to start the game.


But can you explain what I have to do to hear my own music in the game? Please explain it for dummies (for me) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

And finally I got the same problem with the Options Button in the Main Menu. Pressing the Options Button caused a crash to desktop without creating an error.log file.
All other Main Menu Buttons (Save,Load, Credits etc.) work correctly.
 
I don't understand this! One of the first thing postinstall.bat should do is moving sound.h to the proper place... What operating system you have? Did postinstall.bat produce any errors?
