Build 14 Alpha 7

Can you attach your resource\ini\aliases\music_alias.ini file with your post? I'll convert it for you and then explain what to do - this way would be easier.

Hm, looks like I've been not permitted to upload this type of file.

Ok, I've convert the .ini file to .txt file. You only have to rename it to music.ini. Hope that works.

Extract attached file in your main potc directory.

As for that CTD on pressing 'Options' button: could you please try to move file options from main potc directory to other place and then try to start the game and use that button again?

I've downloaded all updates and it seems to me there are two other mix-ups:

<i>Superior Warship</i> is the Alpha 7 addition, right? So, it seems that it's missing hull texture.

Going slightly back, <i>RN Third Rate Ship</i> (by Seb) has either wrong texture, or is the wrong type of the ship. The hull is stock Black Pearl type, but texture is for Fearless type.

And my top complaint for this week: <i>Fast Caravel</i> (NewSantiago1, by Bartolomeu o Portugues): the ships texture is upside down. The ships texture is. Upside. Down. And I can see why nobody has noticed that - thanks to dark red recolor most of the details are invisible anyway. I'm sorry to say that, but that's very lazy retexturing job.

why not simply replace the excisting music files with your own, but leave the name the same? that should work.

That's not missing hull texture - postinstall.bat, run in main game directory, should rename one which already was in the modpack. I can't understand why it refuses to work.

That texture was made by Bartolomeu o Portugues; it was not only upside-down but also right-on-left. Corrected it, thank you for noticing that.

Oh. Well then, let me assure you, it probably does work - I simply haven't installed Alpha 7 yet (I was merely browsing through files) and thus it never got the chance to actually rename the texture <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I feel awful about this but there is something strange going on. Yesterday I can start the game (with the changes I mentioned before).
Today I got a runtime error. But I didn't change anything since yesterday.

Ok, I managed it to get the game working.

What I've done is installing Alpha 7 into an empty folder. Then I copy the extracted files by hand into PotC folder without using postinstall.exe or postinstall.bat.
Then I copy the old sound.h into program\sound by hand.
After this I remove the "Options" file from the main folder and start the game.
Now everything works well. (Starting with old interface)

Now I changed the interface in the Options Menu to "New Interface". After that I've got the CTD. So I think something is wrong with the new "New Interface" toggle.



And at least the music_standard.c is working well, too. Ahoy there,
I've downloaded this music_standard.c file, just to see how it looked like... If I understand correctly, this file is a kind of replacement of the files previously in the \RESOURCE\INI\ALIASES folder? But why was it needed?

It seems that part of my work is in there : I can see <i>'tmpref.id = "music_gorod_2";</i>', '<i>tmpref.id = "music_tavern_pirate";</i>', '<i>tmpref.id = "music_tavern_louche";</i>' and '<i>tmpref.id = "music_french_governor";</i>'.
But I don't quite get why the files assigned to the three tavern music are alike?... Same for the two town music, most of the files specified here are exactly the same!

However, I have the problem like Jack. As we are both from Germany it may be that the German directory names cause the problem.
Our default PotC directory is PROGRAMME\Bethesda Softworks\Pirates of the Caribbean (instead of Program files\...). And postinstall.bat as well as the copying program that runs after Build14A7.exe tell me that they can't find files or directories:[attachment=1041:Screenshot.jpg]
Translation of the messages:
... file can't be moved. File or directory do not exist.

Invalid option - /...
 
Ahoy there! since i don't have the net for a while, and more over, much work, i wasn't aware of the last updates concerning the build, especially, the long date planned conversion of manny skins, in full RN ships, i was glad to see that new improvements, thanks to the guys who made it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> i managed to get the latest build updates (beeing concerned buy this runtime error <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />) and i used the GMviewer to see the last ships models, indeed, i could notice one of the textures i did, looked quite strange on the ship models, but unfortunately, i don't know the cause of this, i'had always used those without any problem <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
 
The problems not just for you german sailors, CouchcaptainCharles. I have the same message that Jack Black originally posted about, the'abnormal runtime error' and im English. But I'm not given the option to retry, as Jack is and hence i haven't been able to play potc since i downloaded this update. I have enabled error logs (i think) but im not sure how to view them, so i cant post mine.

Edit: Oh, and when i try to use the postinstall.exe (postinstall.bat works fine) it a message pops up telling me:

Parameter missing.

and when i press ok, an Error box shows up saying:

For what it's worth.

I have the USA version - no problems with load or running program.
(I haven't looked at ship skins yet - I will do that later)
 
Hi guys! When I attempt to start the game, I get the same runtime error the others get. I'm not neccesarily known for my computer smarts, so I have no idea what to do. Help would be appreciated, and if you could, try to dumb it up a bit. Thanks!

I've POTC English version (buy in Italy) and also I have Runtime error at startup.

I read here that the US Version doesn't have this problem, what are the difference between these versions?

Pirate_KK what version you use for compiling your Build14A7 modpack?

I would like to have more feedback about this version, I more stable than Build14A6+Updates or there are some new bugs?

I have US version.

I saw Polish version - it's structure was identical as US one, with translated files in place of original ones - so I thought the rest is made similarly. But it seems that there're serious differences. Blame on me. I'd like to learn what differences are there in directory/file structure?

I'll have to also correct a .bat file, because I used options which aren't implemented on some systems.

I feel really awful about this (I say that before, right?) Pirate_kk, you really, really do a great job, but there has been a new problem occured. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" />

Now I didn't have any cannon sound in third person view.
And in first person view on ship deck the cannon sounds are way to low.

I know it is anoying and I don't want to bother you again with that but a seafight without any cannon sounds is ... strange.

Do you have any suggestions how I can change or fix that?

Btw. I use the german Version of PotC
 
sounds familiar. i get roughly the same when too many music and sound files have to be loaded at the same time. especially when i've added a few tracks. i don't see why this could be caused though. i don't think any changes where made in that category, where there? or have you added some music?
