Build 14 Alpha 8 WIP 2 MAXIMUS

I have now made a new Alpha version for you people to try. Since we currently have two different versions that still need to be merged at some point, we'll also be releasing two versions of Alpha 8 WIP 2. This version contains all Maximus' latest modding work that I have, along with a lot of other new stuff, such as town reskins by Thomas the Terror. Also included is the Curse of the Black Pearl quest made by Bartolomeu o Portugues and Short Jack Gold. You can jump-start various parts of the CotBP quest by talking to Billy Brock who is hidden behind a staircase at the far end of Oxbay port when you first get there. This will allow you to quickly test the whole quest.

Download:

Installation order:
1) Install Build 14 Alpha 6 correctly
2) Remove the following folders and files from your game:
- RESOURCE\MODELS\Ships\Battleship4
- RESOURCE\MODELS\Ships\Blackpearl
- RESOURCE\MODELS\Ships\Blackpearl1
- RESOURCE\MODELS\Ships\Blackpearl2
- RESOURCE\MODELS\Ships\Fearless
- RESOURCE\MODELS\Ships\Fearless1
- RESOURCE\MODELS\Ships\Fearless2
- RESOURCE\MODELS\Ships\Frigateuss
- RESOURCE\MODELS\Ships\SAILORSPOINTS
- RESOURCE\MODELS\Ships\Sol_74_gun
- RESOURCE\MODELS\Ships\theBlackPearl
- RESOURCE\Textures\Ships\bortoutbrgUS.tga.tx

3) Extract the b14_alpha8_wip2_maximus.7z file to your game folder with 7-Zip
4) Run RunMe.bat from attached ZIP file INSTEAD of the one in the 7-Zip download (sorry; my mistake :facepalm ) *

* Alternatively, open the RunMe.bat included in the 7-Zip download with a program like Notepad and:
- Replace all instances of "theBlackPearl" with "BlackPearl"
- Add the following lines:

Then run the file

Known issues:
- Frequently stuck on boardings on the newly added boarding decks (enemies generated below the deck because of missing locators)
- Land / Deck / Sea gives no ship in 3D sailing mode and a CTD short after. Workaround: At port/beach, press Enter and select the "Go to sea" option to set sail
- Above two bugs cause troubles during the CotBP quest, which prevents you from playing through the whole quest. Once you get stuck, you can continue the next part by starting another game and talking to Billy Brock again to start the next part of the quest.

I updated above post to add more instructions on what folders and files you should remove to prevent confusing double folders. Also I updated the attached RunMe.bat because I made <i>more</i> mistakes. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
 
I would like to understand <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":huh" border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> . You will release a file with the same size (660 mo) but with the Pirate_kk's work ?
 
The idea is that you install this 661 MB file first, then install the Pirate_KK additional download on top.

Could anybody upload this 661 MB file to the ModDB? It is an incredible pain for me to upload huge files such as this and I would prefer not to do it again for a while. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
 
I managed to upload the file to the ModDB myself by uploading it straight from the FTP. See <a href="http://www.moddb.com/mods/9269/potc-build-mod/downloads/10773/build-14-alpha-8-wip-2-maximus" target="_blank">here</a>. It's still awaiting authorization though and there are no download mirros available yet. If anybody could make some more mirrors, that would be most appreciated. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />
 
O.K. - Reloaded 13 again and did the "Maximus" install.

Same results if I start as "Nathaniel Hawk" - talk to Malcolm but when I try to leave the cabin - black screen.
The Ship deck icon shows but black screen when the space bar is pressed for the "door".
NO ERROR REPORT generated
I can still access the f2 screens while in the black screen, but not f1

If I start as "Jack Sparrow" - the game runs <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> and as far as I've gone is working as I would expect.

Are you selecting Jack Sparrow in the normal Build 13 Choose Character menu? If so, I don't understand why Nathaniel won't work for you. If you have the new Select Storyline interface, something went wrong in the installation, because that's not a part of Maximus' game version. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wacko:" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />
 
wait... i think i've seen that problem myself. nathaniel didn't work in build 14 alpha 6 update 2, but the others did.

It appears to be the ship!
If I use Heavy Trader (the one preselected on the opening screen) I get the black screen.
I have tried Nathaniel now with British Frigate and Merchant Ship and the game works.

So it would appear to be something to do with the Heavy Trader deck.
 
Can you check if the Heavy Trader model, texture and ship_init.c files are where they're supposed to be?

From what I know about your usual Mod quality/mod size ratio, it will be definitely worth every downloading minute <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />
 
From what I can tell the Heavy Trader files are there.
There are five types:
HvyTrade_dut.tga.tx and HvyTrade_eng.tga.tx HvyTrade_fra.tga.tx HvyTrade_mer.tga.tx HvyTrade_reg.tga.tx
Models\ships show five types also. HeavyTrader1 through 5
as does the Ships.ini c file
 
That sounds pretty much correct. Can you check the ships_init.c entries? I think that's the only place where there can still be a mistake. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_confused.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="icon_confused.gif" />

Problem confirmed. I found out why it happens:

Looks like I accidentally left out quite some deck model files. Very strange. For now I recommend you install Build 14 Alpha 6 properly first and then install Alpha 8 WIP 2 MAXIMUS on top. If I can, I will upload a new version coming weekend or so. DARN! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
 
i downloaded <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> i will add in signature <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> (i dont install the build14alpha6up2 for the bug)
 
I updated the installation instructions: Install Build 14 Alpha 6 correctly first and don't remove the decks folder anymore after doing that.
 
when you say alpha 6 its not up 2 too ? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
