Build 14 Alpha 8 WIP 2 PIRATE_KK

I could try to; I know I once fixed such things in the past. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Any chance you could upload what you have in a week or so? It doesn't need to be finished, but I would like to include the latest available stuff in the update.

I'll try to include yo ho ho's ships into the game, as well as Thomas' characters for your quest. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

BTW: I'll be unavailable next week due to being on holiday. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

One week is too early for my next quest, unfortunately.. I didn't write anything in the quests_reaction.c about it yet. I've had just time to write the scenario. Anyway, the 'original' main quest is finished and this additional quest can wait a bit. I worked a lot for POTC these last months. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
So, I prefer to say this quest will be finished before August so as not to give you a wrong date. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/764.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":764:" border="0" alt="764.gif" />

Not a problem. If you can just give me the 'original' main quest, I can see if I can find the time to try that out. Can't check <i>everything</i> anyway. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />2

But you already have this file : it's the file I released some days ago in this topic.

Oh wait; That's the WHOLE main quest. Sorry; didn't know that one was finished yet. So the whole indian thing is an additional quest? My bad. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Just an update:
Hornblower Quest - Starts with Captain Keene telling Hornblower (the player) that he has been transferred to the Indefatigable. Goes to ship and meets Jack Simpson. They have a duel - neither is hurt. Clayton and Captain Pellew arrive and stop it. Hornblower is told to take command of the ship and sail for Antigua so that Captain Pellew might assess his capabilities.
This is just to get the game started in the "Choices" menu.

Devlin Opera - Beatrice (the player) meets her Uncle (to explain the story line) and finds she has an identical twin sister. Her father has sent a letter (given to her by the Mystery Messenger) which tells of a vast treasure. Meets her identical twin sister and they set sail.
Again, just to get the "choices" bit working. [I have used Sir Christopher Mings' Catalina the Pirate (with the improved sword handling) for both Beatrice and her twin sister. I think it looks good.]

Original Quest - back to its original story line.

Jack Sparrow Quest - still a work in progress, but well underway.

I put this up mainly so Pieter can see what I'm up to before he leaves.
I am tidying up the various program sections before I upload it.

Sounds good. But wasn't the AoP story about a brother (Blaze Devlin) and sisten (Beatrice Devlin)? If the idea is to recreate that story (might be easy to copy some of the code from AoP), then we might stick to that. But of course a completely different story would be possibe also. But in that case we might as well call the main characters different. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I like your work on the Hornblower quest. Sounds good. Also look forward to the completed Jack Sparrow storyline, as per usual. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Plus in the version I downloaded the player was already a female, so I assumed that is what you wanted. I will look to change the main character to a man, (need to change the dialog a bit), but it's early days yet. It's very much open to discussion.
As for Blaze - yes he comes later - (but only in my head for the moment) - I have a twist in the story I have now, just before that point, reference your wish to swim with Catalina (Only done in the best of taste of course <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> ).
Again, all very much open for discussion. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

The original Sea Dogs 2 was supposed to offer the choice between a female (Beatrice) and male (Blaze) main character, which in the end was put in AoP. There actually are still some references in the PotC code that prove that originally you were meant to also be able to play as Danielle. I think it'd be rather hard to offer the choice of a male or female character in the same quest, so it's nice to have at least one quest with a female main character. Anyway, as long as Blaze is in there, I won't complain. I think he does belong there, but it is rather confusing to put characters from one game into the other and make another quest. Should the quest me the same? Or shouldit be different? How different? Anyway; I trust you come up with something interesting, so I'll leave it all up to you. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Right ! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> As I said, the 'original' main quest is finished but I will include this additional quest into the main quest at the end of this month or beginning of August.

Ok; thank you very much. Looking forward to that, but I'll keep myself occupied with the main quest itself for now. Anyway your screenshots look good. Looks like a fun and original additional quest. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Uploaded to ftp the latest mods to get the selectable stories underway.

I have NOT touched Bartolomeu's quest as I know PB and he are working on that separately.
I have added Sir Christopher Mings Beatrice, and Elsilhe's Bells at sea mod.
The standard story line is NOT the latest (space reasons at the time of upload) but I will change that this week.

Thanks very much. I'll have a look at it. Looking forward to the original storyline as wel. Did you make any tweaks to that one?

The Bells do not seem to be a problem, but I am having a little difficulty with the Boarding sound program. I think a lot has changed in this respect since Build 13, in which the mod was originally created.

Gave me a abnormal error in battleinterface.c line 66. By the way, I like the Sparrow quest but it is not yet ready is it? And the lady has the same model as the brothel lady <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Oh! and by the way, a couple of men in dark raincoats will be round to see you... You are NOT supposed to be able to work the story out BEFORE it is written!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/slap.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":slap" border="0" alt="slap.gif" />
Now I might have to change it!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

Thomas might have some different code for that line 66, because Pirate_KK completely rewrote some clock-related code recently, which is probably what Thomas is using now. Might also explain why the bell code isn't working properly. If I could have a look at it, I might be able to figure it out.

Tried the Beatrice quest. Works so far, but when the questbook updates the second time, after talking to my uncle, when I click the quest header, I see no text or title anymore at all. Weird.

Tried the Hornblower one as well. For some reason the characters' names aren't showing up properly yet. I get "Captain" and "Jack", but their lastnames are random. Also the bell sound keeps going and going. The captain's even called "Jordan Foot" this time. The game goes nuts upon making port at Charlestown. Black screen, very quick bell sound and the QC port image isn't showing properly either. Possibly this is unrelated to the Hornblower quest though. Pirate_KK made some changes there recently to make Charlestown the main settlement and the pirate town just another town.

Edit: Charlestown blackness was my own stupid mistake. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

New things of note:
On the Hornblower quest, you set sail from the shore, not Redmond port. Is that intentional?
After fixing some stuff in the code, the Jack Sparrow quest now runs. I will continue testing tomorrow.

<!--quoteo(post=269014:date=Jul 13 2008, 04:19 PM:name=Pieter Boelen)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Pieter Boelen @ Jul 13 2008, 04:19 PM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=269014"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->On the Hornblower quest, you set sail from the shore, not Redmond port. Is that intentional?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->It is because the call "to sea" from the quest deck sends you there not the port - I have asked Pirate_KK about it but he hasn't had time to get back yet.
The code used is:
QuestToSeaLogin_PrepareLoc("Redmond", "reload", "reload_2", false);
QuestToSeaLogin_Launch();

It also sets up the "rocks" (which I didn't want) which then requires a sail out by map. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Just checked this - ultimately the command should remain the same, but I'll have to fix code in one of those functions. One more bug. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
