Build 14 Beta 1 Feedback

well, the fleet thing is pretty normal. always some group of ships waiting to bite you in the ass when you can least use it.

Miklkit - I hope this helps.... If it is too confusing just ignore it. :woot

Not sure where to start so this may be a little mixed up. Any way here goes:-

The side quest are independant of the main Storyline

Elizabeth Shaw - This is a side-quest - the main locations involved are Cayman, Antigua, St Martin and a short stop in Guadeloupe . If this quest is broken then it should not affect the main quest - hopefully. Since it does not use these locations - I hope :)

Artios Voisey - this is a side quest ( from the original game ) - If Artois was killed ( sunk ) before he took you to the treasure wreck then the quest will not finish. After he takes you there he becomes an officer / passenger just like the ones you hire, and Quest book header should close. Then you can give him a ship, until he leads you to the treasure it is best to keep him walking arround with you. ( and alive , of course ) xD:

The saga of the Blaque family is a side quest - involves going between Port Royale, Jamaica & St Pierre, Martinique. ( shuttling between family members )

Fred Bob (Help the Boatswain ) and its sequel Help the lady are also side quests. Help the Lady invloves going to Puerto Rico and Nevis Pirate settlement

Find the Traitor Raoul Rhiems is part of the main storyline & Deliver a closed chest is a small quest within the main storyline.

Since you have found both Fred Bob and the Blacques side quests - you will have met Orable Caron - he is the start of several side quests so be careful what you say to him. :)

On a purely personal basis ( and everyone plays the game differently ). Assuming Elizabeth Shaw & Artios Voisey are broken, I would ignore them. :yes

I would try and complete the Blaque family and then continue with the main quest.

The problem with your reputation - if you can't get to a Governor and buy forgiveness from them.
You could try to find a diplomat ( usually in Pirate Taverns - Nevis P.S. : Tortuga, etc I think the tortuga one is in the townhall ? :? ) - they can improve your relations for a price. :razz Lots of money

For your information the quest book headers for the main storyline are ( in Order ):-

Inform the Governor about the French Attack
Reconnoitre captured Speightstown city
Escort Troopship to Barbados and Meet Spy
Deliver a Closed Chest
Wait for new orders from Silehard
Get out of Jail
Find the traitor named Raoul Rheims
Deliver a letter to a pirate chief
Return the native art collection to Governor Silehard
Deliver a Prisoner to the Governor
Rescue Researcher
Continue searching for Rheims
Find Danielle
Get details from the governor
To San Juan
Meet Danielle on San Juan
Repel the English Squadron attacking Bridgetown
Sail to Cozumel with Danielle and Aurentius
Sneak into Temple
After Final

The side quests Headers - in no particular order are:-
(these are independant of the main storyline )

Sink the Pirate Corvette
Saga of the Blacque Family
Help the Boatswain
Help the Lady ( sequel to help the Boatswain )
Saving Toff’s Daughter
Cargo for Thomas O’Reily
Smuggling for Thomas O’Reily ( Sequel )
Patric and the Idols
Artois Voysey - cancels Nigel Blythe
Nigel Blythe - alternative to Artois Voisey
Escort Vigila Mendes Ship
Zaid Murro’s Problems - sequel to Vigila Mendes

Hard Labors of an Assassin - if you trigger this one do it before continuing the main story as this one has time limits and consequences if it is not completed. ( see Walkthrough in Wiki ) - bad people chase you and try to kill you :shock

The French Pirate in the Tavern

Rescue Bartolomeu o Portugues’ crew
Search for Bartolomeu’s ship
The Silver Train
Help the Turks Island Settlement
Find Angelique Moulin’s Father
A girl won in a card game
Elizabeth Shaw’s Disappearance
Find the missing son of the Spanish Admiral
Strange things going on in the Caribbean
Help the Church - part of Strange things going on in the Caribbean

I hope this helps - if you get really stuck take a look at the walkthrough on the Wiki.

:drunk

Thank you Talisman for the info. I am already aware of many of the quests and am looking forward to doing them in the future.

It's funny how things work out. I was on my way to work on a side quest and stopped at a port for supplies (food is an issue) and did some gambling. The girl was a surprise and when I found out where we had to go I got concerned that this would cause game problems. But the ending of it really helped out with other quests. It's funny how things work out.

Anyway, all the side quests are done. I really like the Blacque Family. It reminds me of personal family issues. When do I get to castrate and keelhaul Orable? :walkplank

I have noticed elsewhere that the old pros that are involved in the nuts and bolts of a mod often forget about basic things that will trip up a rookie. Methinks that this issue of too many side quests going on at once should be posted front and center. I'm wondering how many of my installs failed for this reason. Only one was buggered from the start. I completed the main quest in build 13, but my reputation was in the gutter for most of it and no one would talk to me, so I didn't do many side quests. Anyway, build 14-4 is working well now except for the fractals.

Onward thru the fog! :rumgone

Onward thru the fog! :rumgone

Glad to hear you are making progress :nk

Unfortunately Orbale is one of those people who always seems to get away with things - though I agree he should be :boom

Hi there, :gday

first I wanna say, that this mod is a lovely one! I adore it!!
Thanks for such a beautiful Mod! :bow

Just at the beginning you are able to earn much money by landing troops @ Douwesen or Quebradas Costillas - in the Pirates Villages(Forts)
And it's to simple, cause there is no fortress, that defends the port or a good defense that defend the town and beach(And only one stage of batte(port) next stage is in the town with the pirate chief). My own few men will kill them nearly instantly : :shock

Earning ~1,000,000 at Quebradas Costillas and ~300,000 in Douwesen Pirate Port :cheeky

Strangely i can't take them everytime :shrug

And there is a CTD, when I die and go back to a tavern and instantly load after my dead, before the tavern thing. There is non when I don't do load after dead.

(Hope that my English isn't to bad)

You have to remove all pirate ships around the island before you can take them ;)

:gday

Nah, the only ships around there are from other Nations and if there is a pirate ship the other will kill it :razz
So i can take it quiet easy and if not, if there is a pirate one i will board it :whipa

Another thing: When i strike down a mutiny on board and loot 'em they have over ~100,000-300,000 and very good weapons and pistols :shock
is this a conspiracy from rich treacherous ones, who disguise as one of my crew member to over through me? They have much more money then i have :cheeky
why are they a part of my crew, when they got more money then i have xD:
Can this be regularize or somethin'?

:gday Mates,

I've to enforce me to stop playing for write some feedback :nk

Well, my poor english can't explain my happiness to finally have a so stable and complete build version. :doff

I'm playing the standard story line and, except for some random CTD and a know mutiny bug, I didn't find any serious bugs.

I already played the following quests (was from Build14A6 that I didn't play so much deeply), without any problems:

Inform the Governor about the French Attack
Reconnoitre captured Speightstown city
Escort Troopship to Barbados and Meet Spy
Deliver a Closed Chest
Wait for new orders from Silehard
Get out of Jail
Find the traitor named Raoul Rheims
Deliver a letter to a pirate chief
Return the native art collection to Governor Silehard - IN PROGRESS

Saga of the Blacque Family - IN PROGRESS
Help the Boatswain
Help the Lady ( sequel to help the Boatswain ) - IN PROGRESS
Patric and the Idols
Artois Voysey - cancels Nigel Blythe - IN PROGRESS
Escort Vigila Mendes Ship - IN PROGRESS
Hard Labors of an Assassin
The French Pirate in the Tavern
Elizabeth Shaw’s Disappearance - IN PROGRESS
Find the missing son of the Spanish Admiral - IN PROGRESS

(Tanks to Talisman for the complete quest list)

I didn't try yet the capture the colony mod, I hope to try it asap.

I love the new ship upgrade system, and also the repaint mod is wonderful: my frigate now is costing much than a Ship of line, but what frigate!!!

I like new feature in Realistic sailing mode:

- "Fast Travel" ashore is disabled for most locations, until you manually discovered them by walking through town.

I like this, It encourages to visit the city, at least the first time. GREAT :)
I would apreciated an option to disable the "Fast Travel" at all.

- "Sail To" at sea is disabled for all locations until you've manually discovered them by sailing to them.
The buyable maps here really help you to find certain shores.

I like this very much: now the islands maps are really important, but they are too easy to find (after few time I found all maps of the arcipelago). I think that would be good if you can find only map of the friends nation on a town (but maybe is already so, and I was just lucky to works with England that are friend with everybody, except French, for a while). GREAT :)

- "Sail To" at sea is disabled for all ships that are too close to you (no instant-teleports to right next to the enemy ship)
and also for all ships that, based on your speed relative to the other ship's speed, you cannot overtake.

I like this old feature, but I would appreciate an option to disable the "Sail To" at all.

- Ashore, when there's enemies around, the red flashing icon and danger music doesn't start until they actually draw their swords.

Wow, the first time they attack me was a surprise!!! GREAT :facepalm

I like also the new spyglass without information, but only in this case I would appreciate an option to enable stock spyglass without have to set the Arcade Sailing.

I would like all the new uniform in the tailor shop (I run with englsh, so I only visit it).
But I think that a only icon for each kind of uniform could be the best.
Maybe would be more easy to assing the right icon to the proper uniform (actually many icon are set to the wrong uniform, or completely missed, like EITC uniforms).

However, at this point this game is the best even made, I can stop to playing it.

THANKS :dance :dance :dance :dance :dance

Thanks guillotto, that is good to hear!
Full enabeling/disabeling of the thigns you mention is quite possible.
I just put it all under Realistic Game Mode for simplicity's sake.
But search in the code for... I think it was bArcadeMode or something like that.
That'll lead you to the applicable if-statements.

I recently acquired a (I know I'm misspelling it) spiegeltourschip. Pretty good ship. It has good maneuverability, speed, firepower, cargo capacity, and visibility. It even has a steersman! It looks good too. The only fly in the soup is that sometimes some crewmen can be seen standing well off to the side of the ship. As the ship rolls, they dip in and out of the water.

Suddenly there are flush deck frigates all over the place, and I acquired 2. One is really nice! When sailing alongside it one can look in the gun ports and see the full cannon, the deck, crewmen walking around, cannons on the other side, and even water looking through the other gun ports. :onya The other one can't be seen through, which is ok, except that it has no crew. I traded it in on another one, and got the same ship with different paint and no crew. Drat.

Less ctds = more fun.

PS: Is there any chance of bringing back build13 water?

How do I change the settings and reduce pickpocket chance? I don't like being penalized by a game for being curious and actually, you know, interacting with the game world.

If you want to set this without restarting a game, enter at the beginning of the console.c:
Code:
NO_THEFT = 31;

Log_SetStringToLog("NO_THEFT="+NO_THEFT);

return;
start a game, then press F12 (with default settings). According to description in PROGRAM\BuildSettings.h:
Code:
int NO_THEFT = 0;
// You can now pick pockets. But this is risky, and other thieves may pick YOUR pocket too.
// 0 - 60 : The higher this value the safer you are from pickpockets
// Above 30 nobody picks YOUR pocket, above 60 you yourself get no chance to steal

I think that people think that Screwfaces lagoon mod has caused some of the water effects to look "oily"

Last night I installed Win7 64bit. Vista 32 got the deep six. :walkplank I tried B13 and B14 and they both work! The last time I attempted B14 it ctd'ed 2 times in 10 minutes. It has never worked as well as it did last night. There is still much to install and test, but things are looking up. :shoot:

About the water. In another thread (B13!) I posted a screenie from B13. Compare that one to these. Can Pieter access links from here? I could post many more screenies elsewhere and post links here.

The lagoon colour mod should only take effect when close to shore and does nothing far away.
And even then, it only changes the colour of the water.
It's been working perfectly for me. :shrug

Hey folks, really glad to see this mod is still going. Had an urge for piratey goodness and was very surprised to see we're up to build14! Can't remember the last build I played but it was definitely a single figure. Overall this experience has been good, although a tad unstable at times. It's taken me a couple of days of false starts just to finally get somwhere. And even that involved some below the belt boarding action. :wp

Bad points so far (playing only the new horizon story and very early into it):

Choosing to sail straight away at the start of the story has lead to me ending up in some interesting locations. Not least waking up on a beach at Cozumel....... Didn't realise at first and explored, found the temple and fought my way through it. Finally found 2 npcs but of course as I had somehow managed to skip to the end location of the story they were just mannequins. I don't know if it's possible but I'd suggest adding some conditions to which islands you can turn up on.

Sailing away from there made it to nearest island. Crew morale terrible, rum supplies non existent. Go running around to find the store only to find they don't supply rum. Cue end of that particular game. If food and rum are going to be needed to keep the game flowing then they really need to be available everywhere.

Good points:
Being able to take crew ashore with you.
Being able to arm said crew to the hilt.
The amount of variety you have added to the game. Ships, weapons, buildings, tailors, storylines, sail models, the list is huge.

By far the most amusing thing to happen though is having had enough of my lugger and not being able to afford anything else I went on the prowl for something meatier. Stumbled on a french pinnace being stalked by four British warships. I quietly came up on her starboard quarter, popped the pirate flag, let off the guns and quickly boarded her. Much to my surprise I took her and as quickly as possible limped away from the British ships now intent on doing me some harm. Have been enjoying the security that a crew of 300 brings. :p Several days later minding my own business in a tavern I start a conversation with a stranger which ended up going something like this: "You look familiar, wait a minute, I remember looking down from the quarter deck at you. You sneaked up on us, raised a pirate flag and boarded us! Guards!" Cue town guards and all the usual shenannigans. I don't know whether it was just chance or whether it's actually coded like that. but I'd been thinking since I took the pinnace it shouldn't be possible to get away with doing something like that. If it's deliberate, genius. :D
