Mod Release Build 14 Beta 3 Progress

An escort mission with lafeat,taking some spanish ship juno and some captain from San Juan PR to Martinique and back.I did but the mission never worked and the juno and crew got stuck to me but could'nt handle as one of my own ships.No time limit bytheway on mission. Also funny thing in trying to fix that i.e. i tried to find the captain a=of juno and kill him,in middle of sea out of martinique(well out not near port)i hit tab for fast travel and went to juno and could'nt find that captain anywhere.I also found that i could go to port with fast travel even when i was way out and when i hit ft to port i found myself in martinique port and not being able to do anything but had ship controls and only vocal like put sail down and such.Funny and could only exit by loading out to previous save.
 
That sounds like the Vigila Mendez escort mission. It is very buggy but I thought it had recently been worked on. It worked fine for me when I did it a few days ago.

Those happened even in the unmodded game. Seem to do no harm.

Hasn't been touched. Should be working, but sometimes doesn't.
 
If it is the Virgila Mendez escort mission - then you actually have to go to the store in Martinique talk to Mendez there then sail back to Puerto Rico and go to the store in San Juan and talk to Mendez there for the quest to function properly.:yes

Mendez does not meet you in the Port unlike the normal escort quests.:no

If he does not show up at the Martinique store, then he will not show up at San Juan.

Save often! I save well before going into port so that if he doesn't show in the store I can start over from there instead of going back to the last port.

You have to make sure his ship stays close to your ship, especially when dropping anchor in port. I wait until he furls his sails and stops.

Sometimes it takes 2-3 attempts before he shows at both stores. Be patient.
 
Is there any special reason that these Beta 1 ships are missing from Beta 3 :

Especially the last one and the first were perfect ! Maybe not most detailed but that galleon was much better than some of the old ships still in game. And the 1600s still need more ships ! To that all old frigates are missing, some of which were very cool. Like these:

Can I enable them somehow ? Does the game allow to go above certain number of ships ?

We removed a lot of sub-standard ships when we cleaned up the game folders.
Two reasons: Filesize and also a more consistent quality. Those ships just didn't hold up compared to all the new ones we added.
You can put them back from Beta 1 if you really want to.

That first one filled the same place that is now taken by the Revenge.
That last one looks like one of those tremendously sub-standard VCO models.
 
Those ships pictured were either replaced by far far better models or they simply fell below the always rising standards of the ships in POTC. Several of them were indeed VCO ships.

VCO = Ships sourced from Voyage Century Online. The ones we originally included did have detail added to them by us, because originally they really were ugly.
There are a few of them left, most notably the Batavia and SotL. They fill spots in the ship variety that we don't have anything else for.
But the other ones that DO have higher-detail models with the same purpose have been removed.
Admittedly doesn't work wonders for variety, but variety at the expense of quality is not what we're after.

Of the two specific ones you mention:
- The first is the "US_Enterprise" and is still in the game.
- The second is a schooner-rigged version of the galeoth; it was removed because we've got plenty schooners as it is.
Several of which look much, much better. The "US_Enterprise" and "US_Hannah", for example.
 
1. The old English Galleon has missing hand rails and very poor detailing around the deck. Sail the ship and walk around the deck. It is a poor model.

2. The Lydia has a bad walk file and is not shaped like any real frigate ever built.

3. That ship is a pure fantasy ship with poor detailing and a very bad walk file that has you unable to move or see over the railings.

4. Those are the Enterprise and a Galeoth and they are both in the game.

5. That was the Sirius. It was a VCO ship and falls well below any reasonable visual level with things like 2d hand rails.

You should play beta 1 and check those ships out for yourself.

VCO = Voyage Century Online.

We generally believe in quality over quantity, and that's why several sub-standard vessels were removed.
Clearly you believe the opposite (how you can still want the old frigates back despite my replacement model is beyond me :p).

In the worst cases, as Hylie points out, some of the ships had gameplay issues, hindering the player's sight and movement in first person view.
So while they may have been (barely) nice enough to encounter and look at, they were awful to sail, and hardly worth upgrading when we had brand new models instead.
 
A Galeoth with a cabin is a must. Hell I would go to a quest to find such :D The two remaining let you soak with rain :bounce

I believe in quality+variety. And as long as 2/3 of the old ships with same detail as the frigates remain in game, I wonder how you choose to keep to your principle.

If I copy back the folders of some of these ships /Models/Ships/ together with their paragraphs in Program/Ships/ships_init will that be enough to reappear ?

Tho who removed the AOP 1st rate did a favour to mankindManowar3.jpg . Remarkably ugly ship.

When someone makes a new ship it replaces an old ship. But first someone has to make that new ship.

If you want a Galeoth with a cabin, why don't you make it? Then we could retire the old one.

That should work. But you need to copy the relevant texture files too.
You might run into some issues, because some of the ships were renamed and the like. But you'll find out soon enough if that is a problem. :doff
