Mod Release Extra Atmosphere Mod v1.1 (Need testing)

On the "unlocking hints": Could that be linked to the difficulty level? Eg. on Apprentice they will always show?
I just read about the idea of unlocking perks via challenges, and it sounds great!
Keep in mind, though, that we shouldn't make these things needlessly hard to figure out. I would suggest having some form of hints on every difficulty, though more specific ones for the easy difficulties, because otherwise we'll have a load of players with no clue on how to unlock these perks... and many cries for help on the forum.

The challenge should be completing the challenges themselves, not trying to figure out what the challenges actually are, if you get my meaning. :p

Do a convoy quest ;). If you set the troggle in internal settings youll see

True, that! Especially now that we'll be bringing a new feature to the public.
I'm thinking that hiding the hints can be done perhaps on Adventurer and Swashbuckler difficulty level?

Why? Escort and fetch missions are money losers. Even regular merchant runs only break even at best. Anything tied to those will not get done. The only way to make money is smuggling, treasure hunting, and capturing and selling ships.

My idea behind it was the captain of the escort mission teaches you the perk, as a thank you.

I wanted to include hints of how to unlock the perks in the rumors to for people who don't see the hints in the UI. And I wanted to add some dialog options to towns people for it too. But haven't had time to include that yet. I want to have it inlcuded before the new REAL release.

How would we change things so that those quests are NOT money losers? Because that quite defeats the purpose. :facepalm

When the commerce skills are unlocked, then those quests are no longer money losers. I am at level 18 with a commerce skill of 10 and sometimes run empty rather than lose money hauling cargo. So far there has been no one looking for an escort in any of the taverns I have asked in.

Running cargo can earn you money also without the perk. Altough this could be depended on the difficulty I think.
The chance of a escort also depents on your reputation so that might be the case :p.
An escort mission should normally earn you money. They don't pay enough for the journey I asume? Cause I haven't had that problem yet. Normally they do seem to help Altough I often combine them with a cargo haul or shop haul.
Should upping the reward for it help?

My reputation is "hero". I do not know what they offer because I have not encountered someone looking for an escort besides Vigila Mendez. Are the escort missions fixed now? They used to be broken.

Often when the someone else chooses the destination you find that the prices for export items are higher than the prices for imports at the destination. In those cases I run empty or smuggle.

As far as I know the escort missions work ... I haven't had problems with them. There used to be a mutiny problem but thats fixed a while ago already.
The export/import thing I also noticed. Thats why I'm working now on determening the export and import by price, so the export and import of an island can change if they produce more of it.

They should have been fixed since last year; I spent quite some effort on them.
By all means, PLEASE TEST THEM and if there are any specific ones that still don't work, let me know.

A little snapshot of Havana Tavern - two guys sitting behind the Bar - Possibly an old locator being used.

Ayup! There are people sitting in odd places all over the Caribbean, but there is no sense complaining about it until someone comes along who can do something about it.

As long as we DO have an active note on the Bug Tracker forum so future reference.
Otherwise we might forget. :facepalm

Escort missions do seem to be rare; most times when I ask the tavern keeper about someone offering a job, the answer is that there is nobody available. And even if you do find someone to escort, if you're following a storyline then where the merchant wants to go may not be anywhere near where you need to go. I got lucky, I found one who wanted to go to exactly the port which the storyline wanted me to visit next. :bounce

How many ships do you have? If you already have a full fleet of four, there won't be room in your group for a ship to escort. ;)

I don't play a storyline, so can go wherever I want. The escort quests are not that rare. I keep forgetting to ask for them but when I do I seem to get one about 1/3rd of the time.

I have three ships: A Treasure Galleon, a large fleut, and a Heavy East Indiaman. Maximum cargo capacity for best profit and one slot free for whatever.

Escort missions early in the game are a good way to get reputation and Leadership points - Escort missions do not pay that well, a few thousand at best, but I often combine them with a trade quest from the Store if possible. By around level 10 - 15 it's often more productive to do Governor ship hunting quest to get money , reputation and capture ships. I am nearly due to start a new game - hopefully the fetch quests will fit in early in the game as well.
