Decided to do a little modding for PoTC, im not the worlds best texture artist, but i think its turning out nice

btw can anyone tell me where in build/postbuild i can find where it defines wich image is used for cannon flashes.

Atm its a replacement for the smoke8 texture, but i want it as a standalone texture utilized soley by cannons, and where can i find the expansion of the cannon muzzle, because i want to limit the size of the muzzle flash so it dosent become to big. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I did some more tweaking, i was looking at the trailer in the Potc vid folder, and noticed what looked like cannon flashes, i looked up corona in the texture files, of course it didnt look quite like what i saw in the vid, but i thought id give it a try, so i replaced smoke8 with a tweaked version of it(added alpha map)
And i must say im quite satisfied with the results <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Heres a vid in action: <a href="http://www.hibiscus-sinensis.com/alexraptor/cannon_fire.WMV" target="_blank">Right Click and Save As</a>

Now to just figure out how to make it a seperate texture file instead of utilizing smoke8(all explosions use it it seems), and what would be even nicer if one could add light effect to it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

That's some great work you did, it was right that canon's fire and smoke needed a reskin, i'm impatient to see that in action <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

As i said, i need coders to direct me, because i want the cannon flash texture to be seperate, since its smoke8.tga.tx the explosions become a flash like that too and it looks wierd

WOW! That looks absolutely awesome! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />
Files that you might want to look at:
RESOURCE\INI\particles.ini
RESOURCE\INI\PARTICLES\particles.ini
PROGRAM\particles.c
PROGRAM\SEA_AI\AIBalls.c
PROGRAM\SEA_AI\AIFort.c
PROGRAM\SEA_AI\AIShip.c

If you can't figure it out, send the changed texture file to me and I'll try to do it. I think I might be able to figure it out. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
This is one mod I CERTAINLY want in our game. It's AWE-SOME! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />

Thanks, and it seems to work now, seperate cannon flash <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Its been uploaded to the FTP

Merciless's_cannonflash.zip

Should work <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I'll get that right now, great work! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> cheers! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

*EDIT* : I still have white smoke, how did you get your smoke texture, it is really fine. Anyway, your work is great <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

There is a typo in the file, which causes the files to be put in RES<b>C</b>OURCE instead of RESOURCE. I reckon changing that will fix the problem. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
I am going to add this into the next modpack update! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

Are you sure you uploaded the right file? Somehow the flash ingame doesn't look the same as the flash on the pictures you show. Please see attached picture. On your screenshots, the flashes look more like small explosions, but the version ingame looks more like a light. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
Either that or you have two particle effects showing at once, where I only have one. What USE_PARTICLES mode are you using?

the shots ingame are a slightly older incarnation, i didnt get quite satisfied with the ingame results i got with them, The video below the main post shows the last incarnation at work.

But then... How did you make those shots? They look awesome. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

true, on screenshots they look good, but in action they just didnt agree with me.

the screenshots are using the old file, the Video is using the one i have for download

you can try for yourself if you want thou, heres the old file i was initially working on

EDIT: Ignore that, i think im on to something, i started tweaking with the image again

All right, ive uploaded a new version of it, replaced the old zip file with the new one, i had a inspiration and edited the old file so i got the desirable effect.
Im still not quite satisfied with the expansion thou, i cant seem to figure out how to change it, i want to peak of the flash to be half the size it is now.

Note: To anyone who has downloaded the cannon flash mod, re-download. ive uploaded a new and tweaked one <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Yet another one? What did you change this time? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

tweaked with the graphics and size of the flash, but id suggest you wait now, ive been working all yesterday and today on the cannon effect, ive redone the whole cannon smoke to what i beleive to be more realistic <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Ok, new release is out on the FTP, cannon flash project has now been upgraded to Merciless's Cannon FX <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Please try it out and give me feedback. when making this i studied movies and vid clips of actual cannons firing <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

It's the vid updated? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

nop but if you want a preview i can make a new vid <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
